Kathy Hilton Shares Marriage Advice

Her daughters may go from guy to guy, but Kathy Hilton has been with her husband, Rick Hilton, since she was 15. The couple celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary on Nov. 24.

So what’s the secret to such longevity? In addition to hard work, respect and date nights a couple times a week, Kathy tells OK! it’s vital not to take one another for granted.

“Never get too, too comfortable, I believe,” the socialite tells OK! at the Hollywood Bag Ladies Luncheon to Benefit Lupus Research. “And be a little mysterious, unpredictable in a sense. You don’t want to wear your hair the same way all the time. Always keep things fresh and fun.”

Perhaps she’s sharing this advice with Nicky as well. The 24-year-old designer is dating David Katzenberg, son of DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey, and Kathy, 48, approves of her daughter’s pick.

“He’s a very nice boy,” she says. “I like the fact that they have respect for one another. His parents have done a fine job. They are just the nicest family. He’s a good boy.”

The Discussion

  1. Marriage Counselors says:

Some of the best marriage counselors advice for women suggests that a wife should focus on herself if she feels her partner is becoming emotionally distant. This may seem a little odd, since it’s the husband who has lost attention. However, often men find less excitement in their marriage over time. In some cases this is because the wife has taken to following the same expected routine day after day. If you make an attempt to improve yourself as a person your husband will sit up and take notice. You can do this any number of ways including taking a new career path, investing time in some classes or even taking a mini-vacation with some girlfriends. If you show your husband that you are putting yourself first and foremost, he’ll fall into the same mindset.
