Forget what you know about the former American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee, because the only similarity between the singer who came in second to Taylor Hicks and the woman you hear today is her amazing voice. McPhee has made some major changes in her life — new style, new sound and new hair color! And in an interview with PopEater, she talks about the new direction of her singing career for her latest album Unbroken and single “Had it All.”
“Coming off of the show that I did and making the record as fast as I did, I always just sang,” she explains. “I didn’t develop myself as an artist and know who I was and where I wanted to go.”
Her new album coming out in January shows a different side of the singer’s personality that we haven’t seen before.
“One thing I wanted to do was really feel like I was singing a song, a melody line,” she says. “My first record was more of like a pop-driven record, but I really just wanted to sing a song with a simple melody.”
She adds, “I think spending a whole year trying to figure out where I wanted to go musically and who I was really as an artist comes out in this music. It’s real discovery and the hardships that I went through and trying to discover musically who I am in a more grown up perspective.”
As for the change to short blonde hair Kat says, “I felt like seeing what it was like to be blonde with short hair and doing something people wouldn’t expect. It’s fun. Now I wake up in the morning and look in the mirror and see a different person. Maybe six months from now it will be a redhead.”
McPhee married last year and is already talking about starting a family — though not all that seriously.
“I’m pregnant with four children and I’m really looking forward to it,” she jokes. “No, I’m still married, no real controversy going on right now. I might adopt a child from China like Katherine Heigl just did, but I’ll have to go there and see how it works out. Just kidding again! No, I’m just trying to get this record out and trying to enjoy it!”

Wow! She is a talented and beautiful young woman! I can’t wait for her new album! She has performed at some radio stations and all I can say is WOW!
her hair looks awful! whoever told her it would be a good idea to go blonde, clearly doesn’t have her best interests at heart. she looks horrible. she was so pretty before and her hair was so pretty too.

Frances I was teasing. Katharine is a beautiful woman no matter what color hair. You can’t take that kind of beauty away and not only is her beauty on the outside she’s beautiful on the inside too.
This album is going to flop so hard. Idol alum think their second album are going to do better than their first but it doesn’t happen, and Katherine’s first was so bad she was dropped by her label. Now she is at Verve and they are so cheap their idea off publicity are free concerts at Walmart and a float in the Thanksgiving Day parade. To top it off Kat had the dumb blonde idea to go blonde and smash to pieces any small amount of public recognition she had left.
Just kidding about the post above. Love her new look and songs she’s done so far. Her first album went gold. Walmart concerts are the way to go these days. really can’t wait for her new album!!!!!

If people like Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift do WalMarts, it must really be a signal that your career is over. (Just kidding.) The other songs I’ve heard from the new album are even better than the first single, so the album should really be worth waiting for. (Not kidding.) All RCA knows is \sell 4 million in the first 6 mos. or you’re gone\ so McPhee is now with a label that knows how to treat its artists, and she’s better off there. (Seriously not kidding at all.)

To the person imitating me no her first album did not go Gold! It didn’t even sell 400,000 records. For all the money and publicity she got singing in front of millions of viewers her album flopped, hence she was rightfully dropped by her label. This album will be lucky to sell a quarter of what her first one sold.
Kat should have done what Kelly Pickler did bc Kat has a much much better voice than Kelly.
You mean go to country music? Yeah she would sell more records but she isn’t interested in Country. The songs she sang with David Foster are actually her strength, the slower tempo hides the flaws in her voice. Of course her flawed singing voice can be cleaned up in the editing room. She doesn’t want to sing other genres that might actually suit her better. She wants to try and appeal to the younger crowds. The problem is she doesn’t have many fans left and doesn’t stand out enough to sell to the younger generation.

Her hair looks terrible! OMG she fried it, she used to be so pretty and she now looks horrible! She had such pretty long brown healthy hair that woman die for and she totally ruined her hair beyond reason. Why??? She is just another blonde aspiring singer now. Doesn’t stand out from the crowd. Who knows if the songs are any good on her upcoming album, but I doubt people are even going to give it a listen, such a shame. Anonymous is probably one of the last Kat fans left. I guess I would be angry at the world too.
