Adam Lambert is unrepentant about his sexually-charged performance at the American Music Awards, despite being dropped from today’s edition of Good Morning America.
The glam rocker said on The Early Show today that his lewd moves wouldn’t have caused such a ruckus if he hadn’t been openly gay.
“I admit I did get carried away, but I don’t see anything wrong with it,” he declared on the CBS show. “I do see how people got offended and that was not my intention. My intention was to interpret the lyrics of my song and have a good time with it.”
The American Idol runner-up ruffled feathers after he kissed a male keyboard player and had a dancer simulate oral sex on him while performing his song “For Your Entertainment”.
ABC received so many complaints about the performance that the network’s morning show, GMA canceled Adam’s scheduled appearance on its Nov. 25 show.
Adam, 27, noted that Lady Gaga smashed whiskey bottles during her performance, Eminem rapped about rape and Janet Jackson briefly groped a male dancer.
“Janet Jackson, crotch grab,” he said. “I haven’t heard one peep about that.”
He said “if it had been a female pop performer doing [those] moves that were on the stage, I don’t think there would be nearly as much of an outrage.”
And offered a chance to apologize, he declined saying he said he didn’t consider that there may have been children watching because his American Music Awards performance came at nearly 11 p.m., way after most kids’ bedtime.
“I think it’s up to the parents to discern what their child’s watching on television,” he said. “I’m not a baby sitter. I’m a performer.”

love his singing, just a littlle too much shock value, it took away from his beautiful voice.
I’m sorry Adam, but you’re wrong. You do have young fans. Young fans that made you famous in the first place, and now you want to blame their parents for that? You went too far, and I am angry no one is complaining about you fingering a woman on stage, all anyone is talking about are the homosexual acts, not the heterosexual ones. I just don’t care if you are gay, straight, man or woman, I really don’t need to be seeing you fingering a woman on stage! That is not “freedom of expression” it is basically having sex in public in front of millions of people who would prefer you kept it in the bedroom. And you are just so cocky now, aren’t you Adam. I don’t think you will be this stuck up when your sales flail and you become a one performance wonder. I was your fan, I rooted you on, I am 29 and bisexual, and you still made me sick! Adam you are an idiot!
Banned from a bland morning talking show like “Good Morning, America”? I can’t think of anything better for an up-and-coming rock performer. Who does he want to appeal to, Susan Boyle fans? He’s a 25 year old glam rocker, not an easy listening, adult contemporary crooner pushing a Christmas album.
I was more disappointed to hear he was going the morning talk show route & am interested in him now that he has a (very slight) tinge of scandal. Really, does he want to be safe & mainstream or interesting & buzzworthy? It’s hard to be both.
As far as perceived backlash, I heard more criticism online of Miley Cyrus dancing around a stripper pole than I did of Lambert. And look at history & the real backlash that Madonna, Prince & Janet Jackson (uh, remember the Super Bowl) faced over their performances during their careers. It’s not just you, dude, you’re far from being the first gay or lesbian performer. Keep the style but work on your voice and get over yourself.
Good for you Adam!! Stick to your guns and do your thing. Great performance and I can’t believe the waste of time and energy people are putting into slamming you performance. Keepng doing your performances and putting on go shows.
i really dont see where he did anything wrong..if people are having such a freakin problem with it then like adam said, janet jackson needs to get in trouble as well as lady gaga..who cares if adam is gay if he was straight and done something like that they would still have a problem with it.britney spears, madanna, and christina a. made out a few years back during their performance.no one cared about that.oh wait they were women there ain’t a problem with that right? people are ridiculous and need to leave adam alone.he is a great singer and that is all that should matter.i’m glad that he ain’t apologizing for anything.he has NOTHING to apologize for!!!!
You know what the problem is…you are fighting for your “artristic integrity” however, this was the American MUSIC Awards…not the Tony’s, not the MTV Video Awards…this was NETWORK PRIMETIME ABC TV. You were supposed to showcase your amazing talent and musical ability and you opted for the “shock” value. You only proved that your musical talent isn’t enough for you to make a solid career, so you opted for the likes of less talented entertainers have gone (think Britney and Madonna, both excellent entertainers…lousy vocalists).
You failed to consider your audience when you performed. Would you like to explain to my 10 yr old what you were doing with that man’s head?! Let me guess…you would LIKE me to explain to him what you were doing, right? At what point does this sort of sexual exposure become abusive? It isn’t about homosexuality or heterosexuality—I wouldn’t let them watch anything explicit, which is why we don’t allow them to watch Cable Television. You expect that sort of lowered standard for Cable shows. When Britney, Madonna and Christina kissed it was at the MTV awards (Cable station—different standards of what’s considered kid friendly)…and they weren’t watching that show because I EXPECTED that sort of raunchiness. Don’t play the discrimination card–you screwed up! Own up to it and realize you didn’t consider your audience and the fact that CHILDREN would be watching…your career was made because of a kid friendly show AMERICAN IDOL. Did you really think they wouldn’t continue watching you after you left the show?! How ignorant are you?
When you are given the opportunity to be a role model, play out your role. The behavior Adam displayed was not acceptable. There are indeed many young people who follow this guy, and he does have a duty to live up to moral expectations. If Adam was a son of mine his behavior would have totally embarrassed me. I am not against gays, or people who are black, white or even purple with pink spots, but I am against someone who plays out his sexual fantasies on stage in front of hundreds of people. Old, or young people do not want to see that kind of public display.
I didn’t like this guy when he performed on American Idol, and my judgement was spot on. Keep that kind of display private and personnel Adam, because it made me want to vomit!
I loved it… It was not even bad at all could have been worse so people shut up!!! Love u adam love to french u next… can I be on your leash?
Are you a nut bag Meg? The guy was stimulating oral sex in front of young kids!
OMG Jedward Hair!
