After predictions that the much anticipated opening of The Twilight Saga: New Moon would break the record for one day in domestic box offices, the vampire flick most definitely lived up to its expectations and beyond.
When the film finally hit theaters on Nov. 20, the Associated Press reports that it grossed $72.7 million in just the first day of screenings, trumping The Dark Knight who previously held the record at $67.2 million in 2008.
While New Moon grossed an insane $26.3 million just from midnight showings on Friday morning, the Twilight saga’s latest edition isn’t stopping there.
If numbers keep sky rocketing through Sunday, AP expects that the flick starring America’s favorite vampire, Robert Pattinson, may beat out The Dark Knight for its top spot in best weekend totals at $158.4 million.
With fans vying over the messy love triangle involving Bella, played by Kristen Stewart, The Dark Night may have to start getting used to the number two spot!
I was actually impressed. I never bothered to see Twilight or even read any of the books. Based on the previews, these really aren’t my type of vampires. Even still after seeing New Moon, they’re not, but it was better than I expected. Kudos!
Even after reading the Twilight series and watching the first and the second movie, I am very impressed with its success. Although I never joined the cult of falling in love with the characters and the story plot, I did take interest of how the spirit of vampires unraveled. However I still find dark Knight to be more successful and a much better film.

just got back from seeing New Moon! loved it! a little slow in parts — but so was the book. did an awesome job w/ fighting scenes, etc. taylor’s bod is smokin’!
