TV HUNK Discovered: Grant Bowler

On Ugly Betty, Meade Publications has a new employee, CFO Connor Owens. CFO definitely stands for cute financier, oh yeah!

Knowing this is a character I could seriously invest in, I called up Grant Bowler, who plays Connor, to find out his statistics. Grant revealed that Connor's alliance with Daniel is going to go south, fast.

"He kind of dumps that agreement with Daniel and lets it be known he's not going to be a stooge for him," Grant reveals. "Connor's playing for his own team and pretty much making his own decisions."

That includes getting into bed with Wilhelmina, literally.

"There's kind of a budding relationship between them," Grant reveals. "And it gets hotter and hotter. You could say the water's done, and you can throw the vegetables in.

Well, Wilhelmina did say she likes to get her needs met!

The Australian transplant is having a blast working with his co-star Vanessa Williams.

"She's been fantastic," he says. "We had full day of shooting scenes in a hotel room and I laughed all day. It's a great way to spend a day at work."

With Ugly Betty now being shot in the Big Apple, Grant is taking full advantage of his surroundings when he's not working.

"New York's changed so much since last time I was here," he says.  "I've visited the Museum of Natural History, the Bronx Zoo, lovely Park Slope and Brooklyn. And Alphabet City is a much nicer place to go for a drink at night."

But does Grant miss anything about his native Australian homeland? "At the moment, the temperature," he exclaims. "It's coming into the summer now. So when I phone home, everybody is telling me about having just coming from the beach."

Thank goodness Connor has Wilhelmina to keep him warm.

And if she doesn't work out, I also happen to reside in the Big Apple!

Catch Ugly Betty, Thursdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.

I dig the reality series, Split Ends.

Two hair gurus trade jobs and work in salons radically different from their usual place of business. There’s nothing funnier than watching a big-time stylist with no weave experience try to put one in!

Well, the new season kick off Nov. 22, and we can expect to see a few celeb faces in the stylists-away-from home’s chairs.

The TV Fanatic has learned that former Papa Roach drummer Dave Buckner will pop up in an episode airing in December.

Also stopping in for a little trim is actress Lori Petty. Best known for her role as Keanu Reeves' surfer girlfriend in the 1991 classic Point Break, Lori currently runs her own clothes company, Lawd Knows, and just directed her first film, The Poker House, starring Kath & Kim’s Selma Blair.

Dave and Lori have both been known to sport some pretty radical hairstyles, so it will be fun to see what goes down in the stylist chair!

Catch the season premiere of Split Ends, Saturday, Nov. 22 at 8 pm on The Style Network.

What's replacing ER?
(Courtesy Stephen Knight)

We’ve all got our hankies out for what promises to be the poignant final season of  ER.(Anthony Edwards returns! Neela and Ray finally do the nasty!)

But as one good thing comes to an end, something beautiful is destined to take its place.

According to Regina King, it will be the new cop series LAPD, which was greenlit to the pilot stage this past summer.

“It’s taking ER’s place,” Regina told me at the third annual Black Girls Rock! Awards at NYC's Lincoln Center Sunday night. “It’s ER’s last season, so we would follow in its time slot.”

Nice, except for one little detail. According to Regina, the show can’t be called LAPD!

“With the NYPD and FDNY, someone ran that into the ground with hats and T-shirts, and the LAPD didn’t want that same thing happening,” she explained. “So a couple years back, they patented their name. No one can use it, and we can’t use.”

Such a bummer!  So who does Regina play on the yet-to-be-renamed Los Angeles-inspired cop drama?

“I’m playing a D2, a second level detective. We learned everything [real cops] had to learn to get to where they are,” Regina shared. “I feel like a kin to them, even if they don’t look at me that way.”

Regina also revealed that L.A. provides an endless well of stories to dramatize on the series.

“Just the other day, this lady was in a high-speed chase on the freeway. Her car went out of control and flipped over 3 or 4 times. When they got to the car, she was butt-naked. Only in L.A.!”

And that’s just fine with the rest of us!

TV Recap: Desperate Housewives

Holly guest roster, Batman!

Just how many familiar faces popped up on this episode of DH? Gail O'Grady, Frances Conroy, Lily Tomlin, Steven Williams! They may need to rename Wisteria Classic TV Series Stars Lane.

Thank goodness we finally know who Dave is seeking revenge on and why. He blames Mike for the death of his brother Steven. We all know Mike wouldn't have killed a man in the pen unless it was in self-defense, like Dave said, but obviously, Dave doesn't see it that way. How is he going to make Mike pay? Maybe rock him to death?

Lily Tomlin is a riot as Mrs. McClusky's tarted up sister. OK, you know you want to ask: Who's supposed to be older?

Bree gave us a perfectly good reason why you should never fix a friend up. She had Catherine's best interest at heart, setting her up with Orson's "college" roommate. Only Cat's date had been Orson's roomie in a prison cell, not an Ivy League dorm. But he was cute, so you can't blame Catherine for hitting it so quickly. After all, it had been two years. Geez!

Ruth Fisher has gone bad! Seriously, rich widow Virginia Hildebrand is a praying mantis. Oh, she came across so nice to Gaby, inviting her along to Paris as she takes Carlos along as her personal masseur. (Pretty funny that Carlos is the master of the big O. Maybe Catherine should have given him a call! And speaking of Catherine: she and Mike? Hot new couple alert? Susan. Will. Flip. But I digress…) I'm surprised Gaby couldn't see through the ruse. Maybe once she's back in couture, she'll smell out another schemer in designing clothing.

Having Lynette Scavo's son Porter sleeping with an older woman fron the neighborhood brings the show full circle. Wonder if Lynette will go to Gaby for tips on how to deal.
