I've never really been one who wanted a big white wedding, at least after turning 25 that dream faded to if I have a wedding at all it will probably be very small affair on a cliff in Costa Rica - or Las Vegas drive thru, but...
If I did want a big white wedding, or pink, purple or blue (and I had an extra few million on hand), I'd definitely turn to event planner Sharon Sacks to guide me through planning the perfect day.
Sharon's planned weddings for everyone from Jennifer Lopez (one and a half times) to Rob Thomas and done events for both President Clinton and President Bush among others. But if the fit is right, her clientelle isn't limited to celebrities. Like she told me over lunch at the Polo Lounge in the Beverly Hills Hotel...
On your wedding...
"Every bride wants to feel like a celebrity...
And every celebrity wants to feel like a bride."
For some reason that statement stuck with me.
Well, everywhere, with me. The hot Australian accent, surfer body and river of charm don’t hurt either. So was the case when I had the privilege of meeting sexy Australian surfer Koby Abberton — a.k.a. OK!’s Man Candy, a.k.a. star of the Russell Crowe-narrated documentary Bra Boys that hits theaters today.
Bra Boys is the story of an Australian surfing gang — one that Koby and his brothers are prominent members of. Their story is so gripping it was not only made into a documentary starring Koby, but Russell Crowe is taking it further and I hear in the early stages of producing and directing a move on the Bra Boys — with Mark Wahlberg potentially being cast as Koby.
But, back to me and Koby, Koby and I. I got a sneak peak preview of the documentary during a private screening for about 50 at STK in L.A. After the movie Koby got up in the front of the room to address the crowd — and I swear he was staring at me through most of his speech. I modestly brushed it off as focusing somewhere, anywhere because he was nervous but when we were introduced afterwards he said, “You’re the girl I was staring at, I knew I should stop but I couldn’t stop staring at you. You have this great smile and you didn’t stop looking at me.” Um, Koby, I was looking at you because you were speaking — but you’re welcome to look at me and my smile any day ;) xo
PS: I have a photo of Koby and I but since I'm experiencing technical difficulties with my camera for a change, I'll have to savor that one for myself and leave you with this action shot.
You’ve gotta watch Idol Gives Back Wednesday night! I went to the taping Sunday night at the Kodak Theater and despite initially grumbling about having to venture out on a Sunday night — and miss The Tudors — I had one of those moments where I was really gracious my job allowed me to take part in something like this.
Some of the shouldn’t-miss-highlights are Fergie dueting with John Legend — and then performing with '80s rockers Heart where, wearing a pair of spandex that looked rubber and painted on (forget those rumors of being preggers), she did not one, but TWO effortless one-handed front walkovers — without missing a beat in singing the song! New respect.
Carrie Underwood sat on a perch during her song looking like she was a Disney princess. Brad Pitt — well, he doesn’t say too much, because he couldn’t, because the house went wild every time the man opened his mouth! Simon Cowell’s nipples got a lot of attention from those making fun of him. He turned the tables and told Robin Williams his fairly appalling performance was ‘Brilliant’ and in return Williams, a.k.a. the ficticious winner of Russian Idol, told Simon, “I love you in a Brokeback kind of way.” William’s Russian Idol also said “So You Think You Can Drink” was a hit in his native land — and that he thinks Paula would do really well on the show.
There are also the videos. There’s a video by Bono, Daughtry in Uganda, Forest Whitaker in Rwanda, another by Bono, Reese Witherspoon in New Orleans, Brad Pitt there too, Bono in Africa… Maybe that’s why someone said something to the effect, “Bono doesn’t have the money to save Africa himself… Only half of it. So, for the other half we need your help.”
Charities being helped by Idol Gives Back, which last year raised over $75 million, include the Children's Defense Fund, The Global Fund, Make It Right, Malaria No More, Save the Children, U.S. Programs and the Children's Health Fund.
I plan to watch the televised version Wednesday night and call 1-866-IDOL-AID myself and donate for a good cause. Well, I’m also going to tune in to see who else I missed. Wondering what happened to a Maroon 5 performance I heard about. I later found out — from the bassist Micky who was at Bar Lubitsch later that night before jetting off to Hawaii — that they pre-taped in the afternoon rather than performing live. Wonder who else did that ;) xo
Idol Gives Back will air Wednesday, April 9 (7:30-10 P.M. ET/PT) on FOX
Afterwards you'll want to donate: 1-866-IDOL-AID.
Madonna's not the only one turning 50 this year. It's come to my attention that another source of my childhood entertainment - who I watched while I dressed in flourescent ribbons and cut-off shirts like Madge circa 1983 - The Smurfs, are also turning the big 5-0 this year. I've also learned that they will be celebrating later this month at Coachella with the likes of Jack Johnson, Kate Nash and more. They're even having a lounge of their own to throw back blue drinks. Sounds smurftastic to me!
Have a good weekend. xo
