The first Mr. Madonna, Sean Penn, is one of the few survivors of the Curse. Just four years after hitting the big time as Jeff Spicoli in Fast Times At Ridgemont High, he and his new wife starred together in Shanghai Surprise -- aka "Penn's Swept Away" -- and the Curse struck again.
The romantic adventure movie was estimated to have lost some $15m at the box office, and was nominated for five Golden Raspberry awards -- the prizes handed out to the worst movies of the year. But just 23 grueling years later, Penn has been nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for the fifth time. Maybe Madge's latest squeeze, Jesus Luz, should ask Penn for the antidote right now.
