Malan's Musings: Fashion Friday is Here!

There is nothing in Hollywood like old school glamour. Hollywood royalty from days of old wore beaded, embroidered, ruched, and biased gowns to accentuate their beauty, and to enhance their personas. This week, the Council for Fashion Designers of America celebrated America's finest.
There is no one with star power in Hollywood like Marchesa. Georgina Chapman has created the most worn collection on the Hollywood red carpet, not to mention her lovely husband, who has discovered some of the most genius performers, and writers on the large and small screens. I had the honor of working with Harvey Weinstein on Project Runway, GENIUS!
Marchesa does not disappoint, and this week Lily Collins shines (quite literally) in this STUNNING embroidered shift looks playful, and flirty, but extremely elegant. Another favorite of the night Dakota Fanning in the lovely Proenza Shouler. I generally love Zoe Saldana's styling but this week her dress looked derivative of Rooney Mara's brilliant Givenchy from the premiere of "...Tatoo" , very derivative. Though I love Kate Bosworth dearly, her dress looked like it was one part dress shirt, two parts belly dancer, and three parts unfinished. YIKES!!! Thank god for Valentino, and this beautiful viollete dress worn by Candice Swanepoel. Simply elegant and so so feminine, Brava! Congratulations to my darlings MK and Ashley for winning the award for best Womenswear Designer. This was the year Hollywood swept the CFDA's, even Johnny Depp was honoured.
Another awards ceremony was lighting up the small screen with glamour! The MTV Movie awards, and hands down, the best dressed at the awards was my darling Christina Ricci. This dress was chic, moderne, and ... Why has this girl not been cast as Audrey Hepburn in her upcoming bio epic? She literally looks like the 1950's starlette, STUNNING!!!!
Charlize Theron in neoprene was so beautiful. Darlings I used to be a surfer and neoprene looks so chic but it makes you sweat. She must have shrunk two sizes by nights end because of the neoprene. HAHA!
Brava to Susan Sarandon for being spot on, the print, the silhouette, genius! This is how a suit should be worn.
Well speaking of suits, the men at the MTV awards looked nothing but suave. Taylor Lautner gave the three piece suit a modern twist. While Channing Tatum gave us collegiate chic, Andrew Garfield is serving us used car salesman in Reseda chic. Russell Brand was Boho chic and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, WAIT!?!?! WHAT?!?! Lets just say he has come a long way since Third Rock From the Sun!
Well darlings it's time for me to close my column for the week. No column on Hollywood glamour would be complete this week without showing appreciation to one of Hollywood's most famous fashion designers, My dear friend Nolan Miller. Nolan dressed every major celebrity in Hollywood, was nominated for numerous Emmys, and gave Joan Collins her signature look in the well loved TV show, DYNASTY. He also touched many peoples lives, mine included. I close this weeks column and ask you all to offer a moment of silence for one of fashions greatest designers, my darling friend Nolan Miller. RIP, may your memory live on forever.
Until next week I wish you love and glamour.
