Blake Lively Calls Her 'Savages' Movie Role: "Terrifying"
Blake Lively has been cast as a bad girl in the upcoming movie, Savages, and the Gossip Girl actress says making the transition into darker territory was less than pleasant.
"This movie was terrifying in so many ways — it’s so graphic, it’s so violent — and [my character] experiences such an arc,” she told Celebuzz.com at the Savages press conference in L.A. ”It’s challenging as an actor and it’s also challenging as a person, you know?”
In the flick, Blake plays "a modern girl" with two boyfriends (Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson) who grow pot. She gets kidnapped by a Mexican drug cartel, and the men — who are okay with each other, as their shared relationship is of the polyamorous kind — team up to find her.
"The love is so untraditional," she said. "These are three people who don’t have a family, who are creating a family within each other. That’s what I was really drawn to in this story is all of the love — the love between my character and the boys."
John Travolta plays a federal agent, while Salma Hayek heads up the Mexican cartel with Benecio del Toro as her underling.
Savages hit theaters on July 6.
