Gabby Douglas Takes Home Gold in Women's All Around Gymnastics at the London Olympics
Virginia Beach native, Gabby Douglas, was awarded the gold medal for women's All Around gymnastics today in London.
Gabby's win makes her the first African American woman to take home the prize and the fourth American woman, following in the footsteps of Mary Lou Retton in 1984, Carly Patterson in 2004 and Nastia Liukin in 2008.
Russia's Victoria Komova and Aliya Mustafina finished in second and third, respectively, and American Aly Raisman finished in fourth.
The United States also won the gold in the team finals on Tuesday, where Aly Raisman, Gabby Douglas, Kyla Ross, McKayla Maroney, and Jordyn Weber proved victorious, which was the first win for the US since 1996.
