Gabourey Sidibe's Cover Shoot Sparks Controversy
Gabourey Sidibe is one of the four cover stars of the October "25 Women Under 25" issue of Elle magazine. But fans of the Precious and The Big C star are saying Gabourey's skin was lightened and photo cropped.
According to E! News, fans have been firing complaints at Elle's 25th anniversary issue claiming they lightened Gabourey's skin on purpose.
They're also saying complaining that the other three girls on the covers — Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried and Lauren Conrad — have full-length shots, but Gabourey's has been cropped.
But Elle is firing back saying they treated all of their cover stars the same.
"Nothing out of the ordinary was done," the magazine said in a statement (via E! News). "We have four separate covers this month and Gabby's cover was not retouched any more or less than the others"
"We had 25 cover-worthy subjects in our portfolio and we chose Gabby because of who she is," the explained. "We shot this as a story of exuberant young women changing the world. If you take a look at the portfolio, each of the women were shot in different ways and for different reasons."
