Hugh Jackman Receives Special Tony Award Presented By His Wife, Deborra-Lee Furness
At the 66th annual Tony Awards, Australian hottie Hugh Jackman was honored with a special award. Not only that, the Les Miserables movie star was surprised to see his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, present it to him on stage!
During his acceptance speech, Hugh quipped, "She's never kept a secret her entire life." Apparently she told him she was "just off to the loo" and then secretly went on stage!
He gave props to his wife and kids for their ongoing support and also was remarkably moved since his wife is not a fan of public speaking and here she was at the podium in front of the audience!
Deborra-Lee presented the award to her hubby for his contributions to the Broadway community. He won a 2004 Tony Award for his role in The Boy from Oz and has also hosted the Tony Awards three times but he's been very philanthropic as of late.
The past year has been quite successful for Hugh -- he raised more than $850,000 by auctioning off his shirts after each performance of Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway. Plus, he set a record for the highest weekly gross with his namesake show earning more than $2 million in its final week! His shows were sold out for ten weeks in NYC.
Way to go, Hugh!
