Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Rihanna Fan Club Sites In Big Trouble
A unit of Warner Music Group that operates the sites has agreed to pay $1 million because it illegally collected data from users under the age of 13, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
There's nothing for tween fans to do now. The websites ran afoul of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, which makes it a no-no for sites to collect personal data from users under age 13 without parental consent.
The sites — BieberFever.com, SelenaGomez.com, RihannaNow.com and DemiLovatoFanClub.net — are the ones in question. In the settlement, the company agreed to cough up the million bucks for a civil penalty, and to delete data that violated the law.
