Michael Phelps Owes $23,000 in Taxes
UPDATE 12:27 p.m.: After initially reporting that Michael Phelps owes more than $20,000 in back taxes, TMZ has issued a correction. While a Michael Phelps does indeed owe tons of cash, it's not the Olympic games' swimming golden boy, just another guy who happens to share his name. Woops!
Golden boy Michael Phelps' reputation just became a little more tarnished: According to TMZ.com, the Olympic swimming champ owes more than $20,000 in taxes.
A tax lien filed last year reveals that the gold-medalist owes the State of California $23,289.16 for tax returns back in 2005 and 2006.
This isn't 24-year-old Michael's first scrape since Beijing. The phenom apologized early this year after he was snapped using a bong, he was also suspended from swimming for three months.
In August he was issued with a $40 citation when he produced an out-of-state license after a car crash in Baltimore.
