OK! Interview: Fergie
(Rainer Hosch)
Fergie is one "Glamorous" bag lady. The Grammy-winning superstar is launching her newest creations for her bag line, Fergie for Kipling, and gave OK! a sneak peek at the eclectic collection. The first bag design I did, I was basically in the mode of the Dutchess album, so I was using a lot of the elements that were in my mind – things that related to Dutchess. With this, there was a fresh palette and it was fun so I was thinking, “Let me go deeper, I want to go back to my high school years. And that’s what the designs are about. So did the Domino have any inspiration because of Las Vegas? I think that was a lucky coincidence! The laws of attraction, I guess. I am a gambler. Will this collection inspire your music? Yeah, you know, it brings back memories. There are things inside that if you start thinking about it, you start remembering other things. It’s how people relate. It turns into a statement of who you are. If you can relate to something that bag says, that kind of says a little bit about who you are.
You did Candies, you have your bag line, you did MAC makeup... What's next — jewelry? The song completely fits the personalities of the girls – it’s kind of a love triangle between love, friends and fashion. I was thrilled to do this song, I’ve been such a huge fan for so long. My mother and I would watch it religiously. So when I saw the movie, I got all of the references. I loved it. Who would you like to collaborate with? I want to collaborate with a lot of people. I love Nelly. He’s such a great performer, he’s so hyper and so am I. How do you stay so grounded in this industry? Who’s your support system? I have my team. Like if you see everyone around me – I have my hair and makeup girl, my assistant. They’re very calm, they’re all about positive energy. There’re no drama queens. Everyone wants everyone else to have a positive experience. There are no agendas. I think it creates a healthy environment and they are no boundaries to cross. So, planning a wedding – is it stressful? I don’t know, I haven’t started yet! [laughs hysterically] They say we have a date or something like next summer, but it’s like "Really? Thanks! Good to know!"
