McDreamy reportedly ain't cutting it as the face of the brand's menswear line, an insider tells OK!, and now the fashion empire is considering axing the good doctor for a great Scot -- 300's Gerard Butler.

“Ironically, Gerard is most famous for a role in which he practically wore no clothes, but he’ll be a much better fit for the sexy brand,” the insider says.

Perhaps Versace’s clientele has more in common with the hunky bachelor -- Gerard's been linked to Cameron Diaz and Cheryl Burke -- than with the married father of two?

“Donatella personally invited gerard to milan to her June 21 runway show,” a spy tells OK!. “She’s the only woman in the world trying to get him to put on clothes, not take them off.”

Versace’s reps deny the story.
