Whitney Houston Returns to Acting Chops in 'Waiting to Exhale' Sequel
It's been over 15 years since Waiting to Exhale hit movie theaters and it looks like the return of Whitney Houston to the big screen will be well worth its wait! Forest Whitaker is bringing back Whitney and crew for a sequel to the 1995 hit movie.
The Playlist reports (via Huffington Post) that Angela Bassett confirmed the scoop on The Talk. Forest is polishing the script for its long-awaited sequel based on Terry McMillan's novel, Getting to Happy. Since directing Exhale, Forest has become a world-renowned director and actor in his own right and snagged an Oscar, Golden Globe, SAG and BAFTA for his role in The Last King of Scotland. He also starred in The Shield and Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior on TV.
As for Whitney, her return to the silver screen will be the first since the 1996 film, The Preacher's Wife. Prior to that, she starred in Exhale and also The Bodyguard in 1992 with Kevin Costner. A reboot for The Bodyguard is underway but Whitney won't be starring in it.
