Stars & Legends Shine at Apollo Spring Benefit Concert
It was a magical evening on Monday night at the Apollo Theater in NYC. Actor/singer Jamie Foxx hosted the 2010 Apollo Spring Benefit Concert & Awards Ceremony. Jamie and actor Danny Glover inducted singer Aretha Franklin into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame and Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony were among some of the other stars honored at the prestigious ceremony.
Aretha was on hand to accept her award and even gave a little impromptu performance of her hit "Rock Steady," which left the crowd on its feet dancing and singing with the legendary Queen of Soul.
She even carried her gold Chanel bag on stage for the performance — a style icon as well as singing legend.
Marc embraced J. Lo. — holding her tight around the waist — as the couple accepted the Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis Arts and Humanitarian Award for their work with a cause close to their hearts — the Mirabel Foundation.
"The greatest tool of our celebrity is access to the corridors of power that can affect positive change," J. Lo said with Marc at her side during their acceptance speech. "That our lives have been blessed, it is our passion, seriously now our passion to help others. We strive to give mothers, families and children a better chance at diagnostic and preventative healthcare through our foundation."
Chris Tucker also delivered a humorous and heart-touching tribute to his dear friend Michael Jackson and accepted the Legends Award for the late/great King of Pop.
"Hanging out with Michael Jackson was like hanging out with a true life king, I gotta tell you, a modern day king," Chris told the audience. "I would get excited every time he would say come over to Neverland, even when he wasn’t there I’d still get excited
