Family Ties: Then and Now

Then: Michael J. Fox almost didn't get the part of Alex P. Keaton because at 5’5” producers thought he was too short to realistically be considered the son of 6’5” Michael Gross. Michael won them over, though, and soon became the bonafide breakthrough star of the show. He also lucked out when producers cast actress Tracy Pollan as his on-screen girlfriend. Much to the chagrin of teenage girls everywhere, she became his off-screen love interest and the two married in 1988.
