Meredith Vieira Explores Her Roots

On monday, Meredith Vieira will share her family history with The Today Show's national audience. 

In her roots segment, Vieira will explore the Azores islands, Portugal, for the first time since her ancestors left the region for New England 100 years ago.

All four of Meredith's grandparents emigrated from the Azores to the U.S.  The region is midway between the eastern coast of the United States and mainland Portugal — scattered over several hundred nautical miles of Atlantic Ocean.
