Natasha Richardson Taken Off Life Support

March 17th, 2009

In a devastating turn of events, OK! has learned that Natasha Richardson has died after suffering a fatal brain injury while skiing in Canada.

A source close to the actress’s family confirms to OK! exclusively that Richardson, 45, was considered brain dead, and that it was the decision of the family to take her off life support a couple of hours ago. "The family is devastated," the source tells OK!.

Richardson arrived in NYC from Canada via private jet earlier today.

Initial reports said the Broadway star suffered severe head trauma while taking a beginners ski lesson in Montreal. Later it was learned that Richardson had not been wearing a helmet but had walked away from her fall and showed no external signs of injury, instead laughing and joking about the mishap. However, an hour later she began having headaches and complained of not feeling well.

"[Richardson] was accompanied by an experienced ski instructor who immediately called the ski patrol," a statement from the Mont Tremblant resort said. "She did not show any visible sign of injury, but the ski patrol followed strict procedures and brought her back to the bottom of the slope and insisted she should see a doctor."

Richardson had been married to Irish actor Liam Neeson, 56, since 1994. They have two sons, Micheal Richard Antonio, 13, and Daniel Jack, 12.

The family is expected to release a statement on Wednesday.

UPDATE: Natasha Richardson Severely Injured

March 17th, 2009

UPDATE: It remains unclear exactly how sick Natasha Richardson is after yesterday’s skiing accident, but it is believed that she has now been moved out of Canada.

E! News quotes a spokesperson from the hospital where she was being treated as saying, "I was informed by the family’s rep…she has left Canada and the family should give [out] more information by tomorrow."

A family friend also told E! that the star is being flown back "home," which is believed to be New York City.

Details are starting to emerge about the ski accident that left Natasha Richardson with "critical" brain injuries.

Apparently her fall was pretty minor — and it was only an hour or so later in the day that she realized something was badly wrong.

Liam Neeson’s wife was taking a private ski lesson at about 3 p.m. on March 16 on a beginners’ slope at Quebec’s Mont Tremblant resort.

Bloomberg is reporting that she stumbled and fell into soft, wet snow near the bottom of the slope.

The British actress’s instructor called ski patrol, according to Entertainment Tonight, but at that point she had no apparent injuries.

In fact, TMZ reports that Natasha was smiling and joking with the patrol guys.

Apparently she refused to see a doctor and said she felt fine.

A source at the hotel has confirmed to ET that the instructor accompanied Natasha to her hotel room, and later on (TMZ says about one hour after the fall) she said she "wasn’t feeling well and began complaining of headaches."

It was only then that she agreed to call an ambulance and the hotel dialed 911.

She had been conscious the whole time between the fall and leaving the hotel.

First she was taken to a clinic near the resort, but later transferred to Hopital du Sacré-Coeur in Montreal, according to Bloomberg.

CBC Newsworld television reports that her husband — who had been shooting a movie in Toronto — is now by her side.

Reports say she was with their sons Micheal Richard Antonio, 13, and Daniel Jack, 12, are also with her.

For more on the drama, tune in to ET on Tuesday, March 17.

Shia LaBeouf’s Driver’s License Suspended

January 20th, 2009

Transformers star Shia LaBeouf has had his driver’s license suspended as a result of his July 2008 car crash.

According to Access Hollywood, LaBeouf was hit with a suspension because of a "refusal of chemical tests" in the wake of his accident, according to the DMV.

The license suspension will last for a minimum of one year. In September, the LA County DA’s office announced there was "insufficient evidence" to charge the actor with drunken driving for his involvement in the crash, which left his hand badly injured.

LaBeouf was arrested for suspicion of DUI following the accident after showing "physical signs" of being impaired, according to LA Sheriff’s Dept. spokesperson Steve Whitmore.

Sheriff’s deputies said later that LaBeouf was not at fault in the accident.

LaBeouf’s Lawyer Reveals Accident Details

August 1st, 2008

Shia LaBeouf’s attorney is revealing the full extent of what happened during last weekend’s truck-flipping accident that left the Transformers actor with a crushed left hand and a DUI charge.

In a statement released on Friday, attorney Michael Norris said:

"As you know, Shia was involved in a traffic collision last Sunday. He and his passenger were struck by another vehicle, as Shia was completing a left turn. The force of that impact immediately flipped Shia’s vehicle over, and, as a result, Shia’s left hand was crushed.

We have continued to cooperate with the police, and the Sheriff’s Department has now released information that the other vehicle ran the red light while striking Shia’s truck.

Our independent investigation of the accident is ongoing, but we have also received information that suggests that the other driver may have been traveling upwards of 50 mph, and that said driver may not have been looking forward at the time of the accident.

Shia and his family are very thankful for the efforts of medical personnel at the scene, and for all the care and understanding that we have received at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Shia underwent four hours of surgery on Sunday and has been recovering since then. His doctors remain hopeful that he will fully recover, but due to extensive surgery and the nature of the injuries, there remains a substantial risk of both infection and other complications.

Shia’s left arm remains fully immobilized from the elbow down, and he will need regular medical supervision until his doctors clear him to return to work. We are hopeful that this return will be sooner rather than later, and the ‘Transformers 2′ production company has rearranged their shooting schedule to accommodate this injury. We remain very grateful for their understanding.

We are very appreciative, again, of the patience that everyone has shown us, and of the many concerned citizens who have stepped forward to provide information regarding this collision. We would encourage anyone who has information to contact Mr. Norris’ office at the telephone number listed below so that our investigators may follow up.”

Lindsay to Tape Deposition

November 28th, 2007 / Author: OK! Staff

Lindsay Lohan is making her way to the small screen… But it’s not what you think.

Despite arguing against it, the actress will be taped when she gives her deposition in the lawsuit surrounding a 2-year-old auto accident.

The incident dates back to October 2005 when the actress allegedly crashed her Mercedes into a van driven by Raymundo Ortega. It was later determined by police investigators that Ortega likely caused the crash by making an illegal u-turn. Regardless, Ortega has filed suit against the actress, who recently spent a whopping 84 minutes in prison for her 2007 DUI arrests, for $200,000 in damages.

La Lohan’s lawyer David J. Ozeran expressed his concern over videotape of his client’s  deposition being leaked. “If a single picture of Ms. Lohan can sell for thousands of dollars,” he claimed, ”a videotape of the deposition will undoubtedly sell for tens of thousands of dollars, or more.”

George Clooney: “Just Happy to Be Alive”

September 25th, 2007

Only days after a motorcycle accident that left him with a broken rib and his girlfriend with a busted foot, George Clooney appeared to be in high spirits at the New York premiere of his new film, Michael Clayton.

“We feel pretty lucky we got out of it,” the Oscar-winner told OK!. “Mostly you’re just hoping you’re not going to hurt anybody and you’re not going to get hurt.”

George, who explained that he and girlfriend Sarah Lawson were riding through New Jersey “to get a different view” of Manhattan, also tells OK! that, despite the accident, he’s not done with two-wheeling. “I’ve been riding motorcycles for 30 years,” he says. “I love them.”

As for how the headline-making incident has impacted his young relationship with Sarah, the actor/director reveals, “We’re just pretty happy we weren’t hurt worse.” And while his gorgeous gal pal would only say that she’s feeling “better” as she limped into the premiere on crutches, George points out, “She seems like she can take the pain, eh?”

So did George’s life flash before his eyes as his bike skidded along the pavement? “God, I hope not!” he laughed. “That’s pretty terrifying if that was my life.”
