Elton: “Britney Needs to Help Herself”

February 26th, 2008

The most-coveted ticket on Oscar night wasn’t for a seat at the annual ceremony, but a short while away at Elton John’s 16th Annual fundraiser for his AIDS Foundation. And while stars from Sean Penn to Harrison Ford to Heidi Klum to Diddy lined up to get in, the one celeb in Hollywood who never fails to make headlines — Britney Spears — was nowhere to be seen.

"I really feel for her," Elton told OK! about the troubled pop star during the gala bash. "She doesn’t deserve this."

And even though Brit appears to be doing better since falling under the watchful eye of her father Jamie Spears, Elton believes that "the only person that can help Britney is herself… As much as she’s going through, it’s horrible and I hope she comes through it. If I could do anything, I would."

Elton was, however, able to do quite a lot for some people on Sunday night, when his Oscar-night celebration raised millions of dollars for AIDS research and relief. And the music legend is grateful the recent, drawn-out writers’ strike ended in time for the Oscars to go forward. "We’re very, very happy about the end of the strike," he explained to OK!. "Otherwise we would have been in real trouble."

Britney’s Visitations “Going Very Well”

February 25th, 2008

While the rest of Hollywood was getting over their Oscar hangover on Monday morning, Britney Spears was enjoying the second visit from her two young sons in three days.

"It went very well," a source close to the pop star tells OK! about this second visit, which lasted from 9 a.m. to noon PT on Monday. "The boys are really happy to see their mom."

Even those who you’d expect to be most skeptical about the visits, like Mark Vincent Kaplan, lawyer for Brit’s ex-husband Kevin Federline, seemed upbeat on Monday. "These visitations with the boys will help to normalize the family environment," Kaplan told OK!. "Kevin has always been rooting for Britney to regain visitation… and if these visits go well, they will ramp up over time."

In fact, says the Britney insider, the rumor around the Spears house is that Sean Preston, 2, and 1-year-old Jayden James could soon be visiting up to three times a week — so long as the singer continues to follow the rules and as long as certain people are present for the visits.

Sources confirm to OK! that the people required to be on hand for the boys’ visits to their mom include her father Jamie Spears, one of K-Fed’s bodyguards, Britney’s psychologist, the court-appointed monitor and a lawyer representing the conservatorship.

"It’s a lot, for sure," one legal source explains to OK!. "But if she really wants those kids back, she won’t complain about all the people looking over her shoulder."

Visiting with her two precious boys must have inspired Britney to spend the rest of her day with children. OK! has learned that sometime during her visit with Sean and Jayden, Brit made a call to Millennium Dance Complex to schedule a last minute childrens class for her to teach later in the day.

And speaking of the ongoing custody battle for the two boys, Kaplan confirms to OK! that the original April 9 start date for the actual hearing will likely not go down as scheduled for several reasons, including the fact that the court needs to finish its custody evaluation of both parents. This evaluation will consider, among other factors, how each parent interacts with the children, each parent’s personal behavior and lifestyle and how the exes behave together in front of the children.

A more likely start date for the case, says Kaplan, who also requested that Britney undergo a psychiatric evaluation, would be in the early summer.

Brit’s Boys Pay a Visit!

Less than 24 hours after it was discovered that a deal had been hammered out between the lawyers in the Britney Spears vs. Kevin Federline custody case that would allow the pop star supervised visits with her children, the little Federline lads came to pay mom a visit at her L.A. home.

Around 9 a.m. PT on Saturday, a Dodge truck carrying Sean Preston, 2, and 1-year-old Jayden James entered Britney’s gated community, The Summit.

By noon, the boys were on their way back home to K-Fed. "They definitely had smiles on their faces after the visit," one witness tells OK!.

Also inside the house during the visit were Brit’s father, Jamie Spears, a psychologist, one of Kevin’s bodyguard, the court-ordered monitor, and a lawyer. According to a source, the pop singer was not allowed to leave the common area of the house, where Jamie and the others could supervise, without the children.

This was the first time the boys have seen their mother since the Jan. 3 standoff with authorities that landed Britney in the hospital for several nights. Until this visit, she had only been allowed to speak with her children during short phone conversations.

Cover Story: Inside Britney’s Lockdown

On Feb. 16, Britney Spears, looking calm and healthier than ever, embarked on her first real public outing since being admitted to UCLA’s psychiatric unit. Accompanied by her father, Jamie Spears and three associates, the former pop star and this new, slightly older entourage dined together at hot new Hollywood restaurant Citrus at Social.

But while her father’s influence and control seem to be working, sources tell OK! Brit is far from happy with the status quo. During dinner, eyewitnesses say the singer made several trips to the bathroom, and looked like she wanted to be anywhere but the trendy hotspot.

"She seemed bored," a restaurant insider tells OK!. "You could see the anger boiling up inside her. I never saw her talk to her dinner companions."

OK! has learned, in fact, that a secret battle is raging between the pop singer and her folks, who are trying to keep her on total lockdown in an attempt to get her life back on track.

Britney’s father is not allowing her to drink alcohol, see her friends and insists that she prays in her pajamas every night. Jamie has also been encouraging his daughter to teach childrens’ classes at her favorite hangout, Millennium Dance Complex.

So far, Britney has been compliant with her dad’s rules, but sources tell OK! that the singer is in the midst of plotting her revenge. Britney has been sending secret text messages to her former party pal and cousin Alli Sims and is reportedly working with her and Sam Lutfi to try to oust her father as her conservator.

"She’s rebelling," Millennium owner Robert Baker tells OK!. "She’s still not at that point where she’s mature enough to understand what her dad is doing and how he’s trying so hard to help her. Dad has come to stabilize her, but right now she doesn’t want it. She’s got that teenage rebellion thing going on."
