More than two years after her accidental death to a drug overdose, those Anna Nicole Smith left behind are still in hot water with the law over the circumstances of her demise.
On Monday a Los Angeles Superior Court judge ordered Anna’s sometime boyfriend/lawyer Howard K. Stern and two of her doctors, Dr. Khristine Eroshevich and Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, to face hearings that would determine whether or not they should go to trial, Reuters reports. They are charged with conspiracy and providing painkillers, sleeping pills and other meds to Anna Nicole before her death.
Howard’s hearing will take place within 10 days of Aug. 12, the judge ordered. If convicted, all three defendants could face more than 5 years in prison.
Howard K. Stern Pleads Not Guilty

More than two years after Anna Nicole Smith passed away from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs, her lawyer and former boyfriend Howard K. Stern is still wrapped up in a case involving her death.
Stern and two of Anna’s doctors, Khristine Eroshevich and Dr. Sandeep Kapoor pleaded not guilty today in Los Angeles Superior Court to charges that they illegally supplied her with prescription drugs for years before her passing, Reuters reports.
All three were charged in March with conspiracy and prescribing painkillers, sleeping pills, anxiety medicines and other drugs to Anna for three years, before she died in 2007, using aliases. The defendants all maintain the drugs were prescribed for legitimate medical reasons.
A preliminary hearing could happen in June that will decide whether there is enough evidence to merit a trial.
Anna Nicole’s Pal Says Stern “Took Advantage” Of Her

On the day that Anna Nicole Smith’s ex boyfriend appeared in court charged with contributing to her death, a friend of the former Playboy model told OK! that he "took advantage of her".
A fellow Playmate of the Year and one-time pal of Anna’s, Victoria Silverstedt, said that the reality show Anna and Howard K. Stern appeared in together may have been the catalyst that lead to the collapse of her life.
Victoria, who now stars in her own reality show, The Perfect Life, says that she intentionally avoided making a show like The Anna Nicole Show, which aired on E! in 2002, five years before Anna died from a drug overdose.
"That was my guide lines — not to go that way," said the Swedish pin-up.
"I don’t know if it was that show that really got [Anna Nicole] more and more messed her up — because there was the fame, and Howard and everyone were taking advantage of her," added Victoria.
"It was a disaster."
Victoria’s own show follows her ultra glamorous life as she flits around the world from New York and LA, to London, Paris and Rome via her home in Monaco and the village where she grew up in northern Sweden, as she goes to celebrity parties, hosts TV shows and looks for love.
"I just wanted it be light-hearted, fun, easy to watch," Victoria told us. "I’m not trying to prove anything to anyone, I’m just doing my thing, enjoying having a good life, but not taking life too seriously.
"I really wanted to be careful not to go along that line [like the Anna Nicole Show]."
Howard K. Stern To Plead Not Guilty, Reports

Anna Nicole Smith’s former boyfriend/lawyer is planning to flat-out deny that he gave her drugs illegally when he appears in court today, according to reports.
TMZ says that Howard K. Stern is so adamant that he had nothing to do with supplying the prescription meds that she OD’d on that he’s refusing to bargain with prosecutors.
The site says that rather than cut a deal with the DA that would see him plead guilty to lesser offenses, Stern is going to just enter a not guilty plea for the crime he was first charged with.
He’s accused of conspiring with two doctors to supply the former Playboy Playmate of the Year with the cocktail of drugs that killed her in February 2007.
Recently a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office told OK! that Howard, Dr. Khrisitine Eroshevich and Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, face a maximum sentence of five years and eight months each in state prison.
However, the judge will have complete discretion, and could even just give them probabation if they’re found guilty.
Stern is currently out on $20,000 bail.
