Naomi Judd, Hubby Mark Material-Free Anniversary

May 13th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

Naomi Judd recently celebrated her 30th anniversary with hubby Larry Strickland.

“You should hear the voicemail message he left me at the hotel,” the singer, 63, who is mom to stars Wynonna, 44, and Ashley, 41, tells me. “He was Elvis’s bass singer, so he’s got this incredible Barry White voice.”

She laughs, “We make a good couple because he’s good for about 30 words a day, and I’m very emotional and verbally incontinent.”

What’s one of their core values?

“We don’t do materialism. I‘ve never owned a diamond. I don’t have a housekeeper. I actually just cooked a big supper for everybody myself.”

Heath Ledger’s Friends Get Candid

January 16th, 2009

Jan. 22 will mark the one year anniversary of Heath Ledger’s death from an accidental overdose of prescription medications. To memorialize their friend, the late actor’s closest friends are finally speaking up about him.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ledger’s pals open up about his last days, how he was as a father to Matilda and his fear of fame.

"I haven’t talked about it until now. I’m really nervous," says Wes Bentley, one of Heath’s closest friends. The two co-starred in 2002’s The Four Feathers. "Heath’s fun clouded it’s way through a room. It was infectious…Some people think he’d party too much and take drugs. That wasn’t the case. It was young energy. He was high off life."

Heath’s c0-star in 10 Things I Hate About You, Julia Stiles, recalls the actor’s aversion to becoming Hollywood’s "it-boy."

"Heath always seemed so mature," she says. "I got the sense that he was averse to becoming any kind of teen idol. I think he felt like 10 Things had more substance, but he anticipated that if he did more movies like this, he’d get stuck doing teen romantic comedies."

Skip ahead to 2007–Heath had scored big with his controversial and acclaimed role as a gay cowboy in BrokeBack Mountain, he’d met, fallen in love and become engaged to his co-star in the film, Michelle Williams and the two now had a daughter, Matilda.

It was during this time, when his relationship with Williams began to fall apart, that friends say they became worried about the actor.

"All of us who were close to Heath knew what was going on, and it was not the most pleasant experience," says Terry Gilliam, who directed Heath in Brothers Grimm. "He was obsessed with his daughter. She became the center of his thoughts. The insomnia was really getting to him. He’d arrive in the morning looking really shattered. I’d say, ‘Let’s take it easy because you’re knackered.’ And he’d say, ‘No, let’s go.’"

Director Catherine Hardwicke adds, "The pressure he was under, with his family, his daughter, everything, would stress out any yogi," she say. "You’re being buffeted and pulled and tempted and flown across the ocean back and forth–how does anybody survive that? Obviously a lot of people don’t."

November 11th, 2008

Katie Holmes will be hard at work on her second anniversary, but she won’t be alone–on Nov. 18, proud husband Tom Cruise is expected to be front and center in the audience of Katie’s Broadway hit All My Sons.

Katie, 29, and Tom, 46, exchanged vows in 2006 at Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy, surrounded by family and celebrity friends. Because of Katie’s schedule this year, the couple’s celebration will be relatively low-key, with a late-afternoon lunch spent most likely with their daughter Suri, 2, before the actress rushes off to the theater.

In the meantime, an unlikely ally–Nicole Kidman–says she’d love to see Katie have more kids. Tom’s ex tells the new issue of Glamour Magazine that adopted son Connor is longing for a kid brother. According to Nicole, the 13-year-old, "would like one of us to have a boy." She adds, "He wants that boy…Katie?"

Baby #2 Coming Soon For TomKat?

October 31st, 2007 / Author: cwillett

As Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes prepare to ring in their first year together as man and wife on Nov. 18, a source close to the superstar couple reveals exclusively to OK! that 18-month-old Suri might have a sibling by their second anniversary!

“I expect we’ll see Kate pregnant again within the year,” the source tells OK!. And the timing could be perfect for the 28-year-old actress, who is in the early stages of publicizing her upcoming film Mad Money. And with no definite projects lined up for the spring, she and Tom have time to focus on expanding their family.

Meanwhile, between baby Suri and Tom’s two children with Nicole Kidman, Katie’s had plenty of parenting practice. Because while Connor and Isabella spend a part of each year with their Oscar-winning mom, most of their time is spent with their father and stepmother. “Katie never tried to replace Nicole,” the source explains to OK!. “But the way she brought the family together was just textbook-right for how a stepparent should handle the role.”

TomKat’s Delayed Anniversary Plans

October 10th, 2007

For most couples, their first wedding anniversary is a time for reflection on a pivotal year and an occasion for celebration of many more to come. And this holds true even for superstar pairing Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, who will ring in the finish of year #1 on Nov. 18.

However, sources close to the TomKat clan tell OK! that the lovebirds have yet to make any major decisions about how to mark the anniversary. “It could be anything from a dinner at home with the kids to a restaurant party with dozens of friends and relatives,” a friend of the world’s most famous married couple explains.

So what’s the holdup? “They’ve both been so busy with their back-to-back movies,” says the friend. “I don’t know that they’ve even had a chance to think about it yet.”

If OK! may offer one suggestion: How about eating the top layer of their wedding cake, like other “normal” couples?
