extract premiere 250809There’s good news and bad news for fans of Arrested Development, who have been waiting for a film of the critically-acclaimed TV show ever since it went off the air: The good news is, it’s happening. The bad news? It might be a while. “The film is being written, and when it’s done we’ll schedule and shoot it,” Jason Bateman told OK! at the premiere of Men Who Stare at Goats after-party Friday during the Toronto Film Festival. Jason Bateman Hopeful for Arrested Development Film

July 2nd, 2008

Now that the Sex and the City film has opened, focus is turning to yet another beloved and defunct television show that could possibly hit the big screen — Arrested Development.

“I think it might happen," AD’s once-time leading man Jason Bateman tells Parade.com. "I’ve got my fingers crossed."

The dysfunctional Bluths became a cult favorite during their three short seasons on the air, and ever since its February 2006 finale, there has been talk of a movie version by the creators and stars. So what’s the hold-up?

"It’s a question of timing," Jason, 39, says. "When is it too early? When is it too late? I hope it happens because we all miss each other.”

For the time being, the Golden Globe winner can be seen in opposite Will Smith in Hancock as the straight man to Will’s alcoholic, high-flying superhero. While Will got to soar to new heights, Jason’s feet remained planted on Earth — not that he minded at all.

"It’s not great being thrown around by wires and wearing tight little leather harnesses," he says. "But I couldn’t believe Will. He digs it. This guy likes to fly. I’m good just staying on the ground and watching.”

Plus, Jason’s got to be watchful of any stunt activity with a 20-month-old daughter, Francesca, with wife Amanda Anka, at home.

“I’m that guy now that will show you a picture on my phone if you ask me to and tell you some stupid little thing she did last night," the proud dad says. "It’s really neat. She’s no longer an infant. I can make her laugh. And she’s pointing. She’s clapping. She’s waving. It’s pretty great.”

Will Arnett “Really Excited” for Fatherhood

May 30th, 2008

His wife has already been a Baby Mama on-screen, and now Will Arnett is definitely looking forward to becoming a baby daddy.

"I’m really excited about becoming a father," the funnyman tells OK! of the bundle of joy he’s expecting with Amy Poehler later this year.

The 37-year-old, who’s currently shooting the comedy When in Rome, still has a few more months to prepare for the baby’s fall arrival — and hopefully not arrest its development!

When asked if he’d learned anything about parenting from his years in the dysfunctional Bluth family on the underappreciated Arrested Development, the actor replied, "I sure hope not!"

The baby will be the first for Will and Amy, 36, who’ve been married since 2003. Amy, for her part, has already been thinking of names.

"I’m just going to name my kids numbers," she’s joked. "New Dude, Little Dude, Old Dude, and Eight: George Foreman."

David Cross Hopes To Arrest His Development

May 1st, 2008

In his newest film, Terra, David Cross embarks on a territory that is not often traversed in animated alien flicks, the gay robot.

He tells OK!, “I got contacted by the filmmakers and it doesn’t happen that often that you get that kind of call. We talked on the phone and it sounded like a cool project.”

He continues, “The filmmakers had the idea. It’s exciting to be able to do an openly gay android. It was pretty cool. My character is gay and I wanted to open up that world and represent the homosexual guy in the dark.”

But his role is far from comedic. He describes the character as the voice of reason. That’s quite a departure from some of his other forays into the homosexual character world.

The funnyman is familiar with playing gay-ish characters. He famously and lovingly played Tobias Fünke, the ambiguously gay uncle on Arrested Development for three seasons. And if David has his way and the rumors pan out to be true, he could be playing him again in the film adaptation of the show.

“I mean I’ve talked to Jason Bateman and I’ve exchanged some emails, but I don’t know that practicality of the situation is. I have no idea.  I don’t think anybody wouldn’t do it. I think everyone would come back and do it.”

David also recently played famed beat poet Allen Ginsberg in Todd Haynes critically acclaimed biopic I’m Not There. “I would have played anything that Todd Haynes wanted me to do. I was very happy to be involved,” he said.

It was a role that David says he was honored to play, but admits he got a little help for the role. Spoiler alert: That wasn’t really David’s own beard. “It was interesting,” he said, “I don’t think I nailed his voice but I think…well I think I got the beard right. But I need to admit something. I’m going to credit it to a proxy beard!”

OK! Sneak Peek: Amy Poehler’s New Gap Ad

October 31st, 2007

When you combine the powers of TV’s most hilarious couple — Amy Poehler of Saturday Night Live and her hubby, Arrested Development’s Will Arnett — you know you’re in for a good time.

“It was literally like a four-hour stand-up routine!” says one lucky person from the set of Amy & Will’s photo shoot for their upcoming Gap ad. “They were absolutely hysterical.”

Since the ads, which also feature The Office’s John Krasinski and James Marsden of X-Men and Superman Returns fame, are holiday themed, the Poehler-Arnetts got in the mood by discussing their plans for this year.

“We do what we always do — we rent a private jet and go up and then we call all our single friends and we say ‘ha ha, how does it feel to be alone at Christmas’ and then we dump jet fuel into the ocean — but only where there are endangered species.”
