It began as the most romantic of getaways. Heather Locklear and her rumored fiance?, Jack Wagner, checked into the exclusive San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, Calif., to celebrate her 47th birthday on Sept. 25. But before their stay was over, the vacation had gone terribly wrong and a disoriented Heather ended up arrested on suspicion of DUI, impaired by her own prescription drugs.
So what happened?
After the couple checked into the resort, everything was perfect until Heather drove to the nearby Montecito Village Grocery to buy cigarettes late Saturday afternoon.
“She was by herself and chatted with a fan as she left the store,” explains a source to OK!. “Heather seemed disoriented. She fumbled to find her glasses and her wallet. Then she repeatedly opened and closed all the doors of her car and the trunk.”
When it came time to leave, things only got worse for Heather. “There were only three cars in the parking lot,” adds the source, “but she seemed confused as to which one was hers!”
Clearly disoriented, Heather dropped her Gucci sunglasses before she got into her car on the passenger side and slid over to the driver’s seat. “When she left the lot, she drove over her glasses, backing over them twice before exiting out onto East Valley Road.”
Heather then drove in the opposite direction — away from her hotel — and ended up in front of Oprah Winfrey’s estate! “She parked the car along the road, which has no shoulder,” says the source. “Then it got worse. Heather tried to push it down the road.”
Back at her car, Heather got in the driver’s side but left the door wide open, making it impossible for vehicles going her same direction to pass. By now, someone had called 911, and within minutes, a California Highway Patrol car approached her.
“His lights were flashing, and he parked about three feet behind her,” the source says. “Soon enough, the deputy had a motorcycle officer there to back him up, and he got Heather out of the perform the ‘follow my finger’ test, which she seemed to pass, but the one where they had her stand on one leg made her fall backwards a bit. After about 45 minutes, they had her cuffed and in the car headed to the CHP station in Goleta, Calif.”
After completing their processing, CHP officers took Heather to the Santa Barbara County Jail, where she was booked and her mug shot taken. It took until 11 p.m. for her nightmare to end.
Heather’s bail was set at $5,000, but since the actress was determined not to be a flight risk, she was released on her own recognizance, and Jack picked her up. When contacted by OK!, reps for both Heather and Jack had no comment.
