Caroline Rhea ‘So Into Momminess’

July 6th, 2009 / Author: Valerie Nome

Caroline Rhea reaches into her purple purse to whip out a few 8×10 photos of her eight-month-old daughter Ava during a swank party held at NYC’s Le Parker Meridien.  In one, she’s wearing brown teddy bear ears.

She introduces me to boyfriend and father Costaki Economopoulos.

Clearly, motherhood agrees with the Sabrina, The Teenage Witch star.

“I love it,” the actress, 45, tells me. “It’s my favorite thing I’ve ever done. She’s the sweetest, loveliest … yeah. I guess I feel like somebody flipped a switch, and the whole world is in Technicolor now. It’s very exciting. I’m very sappy about it, but I adore her. I’m so into momminess.”

What precious moment can they share?

“She’s bound to laugh at everything we say,” Caroline says. “She’s an excellent audience.”

Costaki
adds, “I feel so bad, because people go ‘oh my God, she smiled at me.’ I go, ‘she smiles at everybody.’”

This summer, Caroline and Costaki look forward to taking Ava to the beach. “She’s going to discover sand.”

What makes him such a great dad?

“He loves it, and he loves her so much,” Caroline says. “I have the tiniest bit of resentment. His material is doing better with her than mine is. Yeah. He goes for the laugh, and then he repeats it over-and-over and over again. Like the tickling. I can’t stop squeezing her thighs. I can’t.”

They’re also perfect for each other.

“We’re both comics,” Costaki says. “Tell her our rule. We have a rule: it’s OK to be mean to each other as long as it’s funny.”

Caroline adds, “It’s a very tricky rule. As long as it’s funny. It’s a very fine line.”

As for wedding plans?  Costaki yuks, “Yes! I need health insurance.” Caroline slyly echoes, “He needs health insurance.”

Reese Embarrasses Her Kids

June 8th, 2009

Who could ever be embarrassed by an Oscar-winning, hard-working mom? Apparently Reese Witherspoon’s kids don’t see the irony when it comes to their star of a mother.

"My children are embarrassed by me all the time. They’re like, ‘Mom you’re being really stupid,’" she tells Pop Tarts.

But she did get some redemption! "When Monsters vs. Aliens came out, Ava told me I’m the coolest mom in the third grade. I said, ‘Can you put it on a piece of paper and sign it for me please?’ I was cool once."

While we think Reese is basically set in the cool territory, there’s definitely a part of the business she doesn’t find so cool – raunchy roles that her daughter could end up seeing someday.

"I had my first baby when I was 23, so for me, no. I’ve always been choosing roles knowing that I have a daughter and I have a responsibility to her and to the world to be representing women of strength," the 33-year-old added. "These are the women I know in life. I think it’s a natural extension of parenthood for you to feel like you’re responsible for the worlds you create, whether they be silly or serious. I think you are responsible for the art you put in the world."

Martina McBride Shares Recipe for Happiness

March 23rd, 2009

It’s a big week for Martina McBride, whose tenth album Shine is out Tuesday.

The country singer best known for her powerhouse hits including This One’s For The Girls, Love’s The Only House, Wild Angels and My Baby Loves Me credits the song Sunny Side Up as this album’s most personal.

“I like it because sometimes you have to wake up in the morning and choose to be happy,” the Kansas-born country singer, 42, tells me. “You have that choice to see the good things in the day and not all the bad things.”

What’s the biggest lesson she’s learned since she started out in 1992?

“It’s important to trust your instincts. I feel like I’ve always had a pretty good handle on that, but every once in awhile I get reminded when I get talked into something, and I think ‘I should’ve just trusted my instincts.’”

One cause that is close to her heart is assisting those suffering from domestic violence through her charity work. Her 1993 tune Independence Day tells the tale of a woman escaping the wrath of abuse. What advice would she give someone in that circumstance, which has received mega media attention due to the Rihanna/Chris Brown situation?

“I think they need to find help, first of all. I’m not an authority into how to give advice or to tell people how to get out of those relationships, but there are people who are. There are shelters, there are hotlines, there are people they can reach out to to get the best advice and get guidance on how to get out of the situation.”

Thankfully, the star, who is mom to daughters Delaney, 14, Emma, 10, and Ava, 3, with hubby of twenty years John, doesn’t have a personal story about helping with this cause.

“For me, it’s a humanitarian thing. I care about women and children and as a fellow human being. I don’t think it’s right for any woman or child to be hurt. I think it’s important to do what I can to try to put a stop to that kind of violence.”

The singer who once worked at Dairy Queen now lives a very comfortable life. She says wealth has not impacted her personality.

“I don’t think it changed me. I’m still the same person that I was before. I think the way you were raised has a lot to do with it. It’s made it easier for me to help people, so that’s good.”

What makes Martina shine?

“Just being happy. Sometimes you have to decide to be happy. Every day, I think we have a choice — we can get up, and if you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, you can go with that, or you can try to do things to turn your day around. When you’re happy and you’re truly content, you have a lot of good, positive energy to put out there.”

Pick up the OK! on newsstands now to find out about Martina’s family, friendship with Faith Hill and connection to the Jonas Brothers. The cover line is Angelina Jolie/Katie Holmes/Jennifer Aniston/

Ryan & Abbie Get Serious

October 23rd, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Ryan Phillippe and his girlfriend, Abbie Cornish, are taking their relationship to the next level — the Australian actress is spending Thanksgiving with the Stop-Loss star and his kids, Ava, 9, and Deacon, 5.

The first thing to be thankful for? The fact that 34-year-old Ryan is a pro in the kitchen!

“Ryan is a really great cook,” Abbie told OK! at the Oct. 15 Jay-Z concert at the Hollywood Palladium in L.A. “He’s very clever.”

Spending the holidays with each other is another indication that this low-key couple, who’ve been dating on and off since October 2006, are very much together. “He’s a gorgeous guy, and I love him very much,” Abbie told OK!.

Meanwhile, Ryan’s Flags of Our Fathers co-star Jesse Bradford gives Ryan props as a father.

“He’s a fantastic dad,” Jesse told OK! at the NYC premiere of W. on Oct. 14. “I never see him get frustrated with his kids. He treats them like they’re equal people with a real footing in life. I only hope to be as good a dad one day.”

And as Abbie and Ryan’s relationship gets more serious, the usually private Reese Witherspoon is also opening up about life with Jake Gyllenhaal.

“He’s very supportive,” the Oscar winner told Vogue. “I’m very happy in life, and I’m very lucky to have a lot of really supportive people around me who are very much for  me."

Richie Sambora Arrested for Suspected DUI

March 26th, 2008 / Author: cwillett

Richie Sambora, the guitarist for Bon Jovi and ex hubby to Heather Locklear, has been arrested for driving under the influence with his daughter and two others in the car.

Sambora, 48, was pulled over on Tuesday night at 11 p.m. PT. Cops say they saw him driving erratically in a black Hummer. After failing numerous field sobriety tests, he was detained for DUI.

Now it turns out his 10-year-old daughter, Ava, was in the car, along with another juvenile and female passenger. If Sambora was driving drunk, he could be charged with endangering two kids. OK! contacted Bon jovi’s rep, Ken Sunshine, who declined to comment.

Police sources say Sambora has not been charged with child endangerment but the Laguna Beach P.D. is "actively investigating."

They say that after Sambora was busted, the cops called Heather Locklear, Ava’s mom, who authorized the woman in the car to drive her daughter home.

Later at the station, a cooperative Sambora opted to take a blood test rather than blow into a breathalyzer. Laguna Beach PD says there was no indication of drugs.

Sambora was released around 4 a.m. Wednesday morning. Back in 2007, he completed two different stints in rehab.
