If you were watching the Michael Jackson memorial service on TV yesterday, you were far from alone: the Associated Press reports that a little over 31 million people in the U.S. watched the tribute on TV, not to mention the millions more who logged in to watch via video streams on their computers.

Penn, real name Kalpen Modi, has gone to work as an associate director in the Office of Public Liaison, with a focus on connecting the president with the Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities.
Penn, who also recently taught a class at of all places the University of Pennsylvania, isn’t hoping to have the red carpet rolled out for him.
“I expect to be treated just like any other staff member,” he told reporters. “I brushed my teeth; I did floss, used mouthwash … took the bus to work, same thing that everybody does.”
Obama on MJ: “I Grew Up on His Music”
July 2nd, 2009
While some questioned President Barack Obama’s lack of a comment after Michael Jackson passed away last week, he says it was just a matter of having someone bring it up.
"Look, you’re the first person who’s actually asked me about it," he tells the Associated Press.
Obama did add that MJ will "go down in history as one of our greatest entertainers. I grew up on his music."
"I still have all his stuff on my iPod," revealed the commander-in-chief.
Obama also recognized that Michael’s life wasn’t perfect, saying he felt he’d experienced a "tragic and in many ways sad personal life."
