Barbra Streisand Reflecting on Life

Ever want to peek inside Barbra Streisand’s life? Now fans can, with a new book scheduled for fall 2010, A Passion for Design.

 

The illustrated book, to be released by Viking, includes photos of the Malibu, Calif., oceanfront compound she worked on for more than five years, and of other residences, back to her early years in New York.

 

Babs says she’s writing about where she lives and her life "because I’m spurred on by the writing process," she tells the Associated Press. She also says she might be considering a memoir.

"I go back and forth," she reveals of project. "Do I really want to write about my life? Do I really want to relive my life? I’m not sure."

 

Come on, Babs, write about all those memories lighting the corners of your mind, please.

 

Generous Stars!

We all hear about who’s buying the flashiest cars and the blingiest bling, but when it comes to contributing to worthy causes, who’s got the deepest pockets?

 

The Sept. 14 issue of Parade lists the top most generous givers when it comes to celebrities, a rundown put together by The Giving Back Fund, an organization that seeks to encourage philanthropy.

 

So, who’s the most charitable? Take a look at the top 5:

 

Oprah Winfrey: $50.2 million - The Oprah Winfrey Foundation and Oprah’s Angel Network: education, health care, and advocacy for women and children worldwide.  

 
Herb Alpert: $13 million - The Herb Alpert Foundation: music education, including the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.    

Barbra Streisand: $11 million - The Streisand Foundation: the environment, women’s issues, civil rights, AIDS research, and advocacy.    

Paul Newman: $10 million - Scholarship for Kenyon College, his alma mater.    

 

Mel Gibson: $9.9 million - Holy Family Church.  

 

 

 

Morgan Freeman to Receive Honor

Morgan Freeman has been a constant, familiar face on the silver screen, acting in classics like Driving Miss Daisy, Shawshank Redemption and Million Dollar Baby.

 

And now the Oscar winner, 71, who survived a serious car crash this summer, will be receiving another award for his hard work: he will be honored at this year’s Kennedy Center Awards. in December in Washington, D.C.

 

Morgan, along with fellow winners Barbra Streisand, Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend and others, will have his career celebrated at a gala in December in Washington, D.C.

 

The Kennedy Center awards figures from the entertainment and arts world every year for their contributions to American culture. Spokesman Stephen Schwarzman says that all of the honorees this year have "extraordinary genius and tenacity," and that their work had "redefined the way we see, hear and feel the performing arts."

 

The winners will also be celebrated at a reception given by President Bush and first lady Laura Bush at the last White House reception to be held by the current administration.

 

 

Barbra Streisand Donates $5 Million to Hospital

Barbra Streisand donated $5 million to the women’s heart disease research and education program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The hospital announced that the program will now be named the Barbra Streisand Women’s Cardiovascular Research Education Program in honor of the donation.

 

The program will conduct trials on new drugs for women to try and identify the role of gender in heart diesease, and work to reduce risks of the disease.

 

Streisand has long been an advocate of women’s health, and encourages women to get involved in reducing risks for heart disease.

 

Madonna Top Cash Queen

Nobody beats Madonna: The Kaballah mama topped Forbes list of the top selling
"Cash Queens" of 2007, raking in more than $72 million last year, thanks to her successful Confessions tour and lucrative deals with clothing retailer H&M.

 

Madonna beat out second-place winner Barbra Streisand by $12 million; Babs made $60 million last year, and third place contestant Celine Dion raked in $45 million, due in large part to her Las Vegas concert series.

 

Other top earners include Shakira ($38 million), Beyonce ($27 million) and Gwen Stefani ($26 million). Last year Christina Aguilera ushered son Max into the world, and managed to make a pretty penny, too. The "Ain’t No Other Man" singer made $20 million last year.

 

Poptastrophe Britney Spears raked in $8 million last year, despite personal dramas.
