Madonna & A-Rod’s Mexican Getaway

December 1st, 2008 / Author: matt

News from the "Why Not Just Admit It?" Department this weekend as Madonna and baseball boy-toy Alex Rodriguez traveled with her three children to Mexico City, only days after spending time together in Miami.

Of course, maybe Madge, who was in Mexico for a stop on her current Sticky & Sweet tour, was just giving A-Rod a lift in her plane, as the New York Yankees slugger had an event of his own to attend.

Alex was in the Mexican capital on Sunday to give some hands-on batting lessons to local kids at the opening of a new sports center in the poor suburb of Nezahualcoyotl.

Speaking in Spanish to reporters at the event, A-Rod was characteristically quiet on the topic of Madonna, but he did say about the new sports center, "It’s a pleasure to talk about baseball, to talk about the importance of keeping children off the streets, out of drugs and out of all the bad things that there are in this life."

Earlier this week, Alex had joined the screaming fans of the Material Girl at her Nov. 26 show at Dolphin Stadium in Miami. The next day, according to reports, the future Hall-of-Famer joined his ex-wife Cynthia and their two daughters for Thanksgiving dinner.

Madonna’s divorce from ex-husband, film director Guy Ritchie, was preliminarily granted by a UK court earlier in November.

Report: A-Rod Donates to Madonna’s Charity

August 11th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

It looks like baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez’s "friendship" with Madonna is going to be eating into his megabucks paycheck. According to a report in the New York Daily News, the Yankees slugger is set to make a whopper of a financial gift to Madge’s Malawi charity.

The story claims that A-Rod is writing a check for $500,000 to Raising Malawi, the charity set up by the Material Girl to help the 1 million orphans in the African nation where Madge adopted her son David in 2006.

While the charity’s director Philippe van den Bossche would neither confirm nor deny reports of A-Rod’s generosity, he did deny reports that money from Raising Malawi is being used to start a school with a curriculum based around Kabbalah.

"It will be based on the British system," explained van den Bossche to the Daily News. "We want programs that can be copied in developing countries throughout the world… Not just a celebrity one-off."

Madonna’s Michigan Homecoming

August 4th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

After weeks of negative press for whatever part she did or did not play in the breakup of baseball star Alex Rodriguez and his wife Cynthia — not to mention countless reports of trouble in her own marriage to filmmaker Guy Ritchie — it had to be a welcome change of pace for Madonna to be in the spotlight for doing some good.

Over the weekend, the Material Girl headed back to her home state of Michigan, where she attended the premiere of I Am Because We Were, her new documentary about orphans in Malawi, at the Traverse City Film Festival.

“It’s great bringing my movie to a place that I feel familiar,” Madonna told the audience at a post-screening question-and-answer session. “Not like the Cannes Film Festival, where nobody’s speaking English, or the Tribeca Film Festival, where no one sits down.”

In fact, the homecoming had such a positive effect on Madge that she announced that her next tour will have her performing her first concert in Detroit since 2001.

Report: Madonna Giving Guy $25 Million Mansion?

July 7th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

According to a report in London’s Daily Star newspaper, even though Madonna and hubby Guy Ritchie are putting up a brave front, publicly denying that their marriage is on the rocks, they may have already begun to split up the marital property in preparation for a divorce.

One of the first places to be divvied up, claims the report, will be the couple’s 1,200-acre country estate in Wiltshire, UK, which Madge purchased in 2001. According to the paper’s source, the secluded property, reported to be worth as much as $25 million, has already been essentially split.

“He loves the property and it’s very much his retreat,” claims the Daily Star’s source. “He spends the weekends there while Madonna stays up in town.”

Insiders tell OK! that Madonna and her film-director husband don’t have a prenuptial agreeement in place, but that such precautions are often not taken in England as the courts are not obliged to abide by them.

"In London, it’s based on what a judge thinks is fair," explains divorce attorney Joshua Forman. "They’ll probably have a negotiated settlement that never goes to court so their dirty laundry isn’t aired to the public."

As reported last week in the pages of OK!, Madonna has been linked to baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez, and their friendship is expected to play a key role in the impending divorce proceedings between Alex and estranged wife Cynthia Rodriguez.

Divorce Filing Expected Today in A-Rod Split

July 7th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Following OK!’s report last week on the shocking news that pop superstar Madonna and baseball all-star Alex Rodriguez are more than just friends, a lawyer for Cynthia Rodriguez, wife of the New York Yankee, confirmed over the weekend that Cynthia intends to get the divorce process moving in earnest on Monday.

"She has reached the end of her ability to tolerate his continued marital misconduct," explains Earle Lilly, lawyer for Mrs. Rodriguez, in a statement to the New York Daily News. "As a baseball player, the guy’s terrific. This is the game of real life, and that’s where he’s not going to make the all-star team. As a parent and as a husband, he’s not going to get voted in."

It is expected that Cynthia’s claim against the slugger will state he has been unfaithful to her several times during their five-year marriage, and that these latest allegations of an affair with the Material Girl was the final, unforgivable straw.

"It’s devastating, it’s life-changing," says another of Cynthia’s lawyers, Maurice Kutner, to the New York Post. "It’s caused her tremendous stress, and she’s doing the best she can to deal with it."

Kutner goes on to say that Cynthia feels "emotionally abandoned" by her husband and father of their two children.

It has long been rumored in the NYC sports media that A-Rod has an eye for exotic dancers and only a little over a year ago, photographs of Alex out on the town with a Toronto stripper caused his wife to briefly vacate their Manhattan home.

In an attempt to distance herself from the Rodriguez split, Madonna released a statement on Sunday. "I am not romantically involved in any way with Alex Rodriguez," she says. "I have nothing to do with the state of his marriage or what spiritual path he may choose to study."
