David Arquette & Ben Harper Launch Line

March 24th, 2009

So when you hear the names David Arquette and Ben Harper you might think, funny actor married to Courteney Cox and super hot musician married to Laura Dern.

But now this dynamic, albeit somewhat randomly connected, duo have teamed up to create their own clothing line, dubbed Propr, along with pal David Bedwell.

The reason?

"I just love clothing," says David, "and that sort of bonded all of us to do this."

He adds that they want to make comfortable clothes that make people comfortable.

"We’ve been friends for a long time," adds Ben.

David Arquette and Ben Harper talk Propr

From Austin

March 21st, 2009

I fell asleep before I could write yesterday, so I’ll backtrack by blogging highlights with bullet points:

-Writing from my perch on the porch of my room at The Hotel Saint Cecilia. This bed and breakfast-esque boutique hotel would be the perfect place to come write a book one day – or a record. There are record players in every room and you can rent records like library books. I’m listing to the Rolling Stones right now, on vinyl. It’s kind of amazing.

-I saw Ben Harper perform. Ben and his wife Laura Dern may be two of the nicest people on the planet – they’re also two of the most obviously blissfully in love, and they’ve been together nearly a decade. Ben’s cover of “Pressure,” (by my favorite musician David Bowie), blew me away!  Ben performed the song with Jack Black on the campaign trail with Obama. In case you missed it, check it out here:

-I pet Matthew McConaughey’s dog. While Matthew was busy picking out Carrera Sunglasses at the Café Bustelo Lounge, I pet his 3-year-old dog BJ. Adorable. So is Matthew. My friend commented, “He has perfect feet.” Matthew, not the dog. Matthew’s in town with Mischka, the band he produces on his record label jk Livin. Who knew?

Ok. gotta go see what trouble I can find in SWSX today.

How Jen Started ‘09 With John Mayer

January 6th, 2009

Jennifer Aniston started 2009 in Los Cabos, Mexico, surrounded by her closest girlfriends — and boyfriend John Mayer.

The Marley & Me star, 39, shared a villa at the El Dorado Golf and Beach Club with Courteney Cox, 44, Laura Dern, 41, and Sheryl Crow, 46. Courteney and Laura’s hubbies, David Arquette, 38, and Ben Harper, 39, were also on the trip.

After lounging poolside Dec. 29, Jen took John, 31, who was staying in a nearby villa with his two brothers, to a birthday party on Dec. 30.

Jennifer has told her pals to embrace her relationship with John — or else, an insider tells OK!.

"With the way Mayer behaved after he and Jen split last August, some of her friends were horrified when they got back together in October," says the insider.

Bus Rides Inspire Ben Harper

March 12th, 2008

Ben Harper doesn’t like road trips – he prefers bus trips.

“I like to write songs on the bus, so I get on the bus and write songs on the bus,” the 38-year-old singer says. “That’s where life is really happening and people are in touch with themselves to great depths. I just go where the bus takes me. One-way ticket and then I find my way back. I’ll go anywhere, really.”

NYC is his favorite place to go with wife Laura Dern, 41, and their two children Ellery, 6, and Jaya, 3.

“I love it here,” he says. “I love the city.”

Madonna, Justin Roll Backstage at Rock Hall Induction Ceremony

March 12th, 2008

At 10:39 p.m., Madonna graces us with her presence backstage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony held at NYC’s Waldorf-Astoria. She adoringly glances at Justin Timberlake as she poses for photos while her uber-publicist Liz Rosenberg races around wearing a silver ‘80s-style headband complete with a googly antenna. Afterwards, a fellow red carpet reporter happens upon the same elevator as Madge but gets rebuffed. So close!

During her induction speech, Madonna reveals her life was either a series of suddenlys or else it happened just as it should have been.

“Everything happens exactly as it was supposed to happen,” she says of her stellar career. “That I worked with the amazing people I was supposed to work with, that I traveled to the amazing places I was supposed to travel to, that I made the mistakes that I was supposed to make. That the universe would conspire to help me and guide me only up to this moment where I am standing in front of you.”

Justin, who inducted her, reminded the pop icon of the scathing reviews she’s received over the years. “Madonna will be out of the music industry in six months. Her voice is like Minnie Mouse on helium. Comparing Marilyn Monroe to Madonna is like comparing Raquel Welch to the back of the bus. That’s what they were saying about Madonna 25 years ago. I don’t think any of them are around to say it tonight.”

Back in the press room, Ben Harper gives props to rock music. “There’s no rules,” Laura Dern’s hubby says. “That’s what I love about rock and roll.”

Patti LaBelle confesses she canceled another event because she wanted to be here tonight. “One year I’m going to be inducted. Uh-huh.”

Inductees Gamble and Huff say they’re going to “party, party, party” to celebrate their induction.

Dave Clark, of inductee The Dave Clark Five, says American music in the ’60s was responsible for the British invasion. “I’m absolutely delighted. It’s a very, very proud moment for us. It doesn’t matter how long it takes.” (Tom Hanks mugs with the group!)

Saturday Night Live star Seth Meyers reveals he’s scouting the ceremony for material. “I guarantee you will find out on Saturday. If anyone has ever done anything to get on Saturday Night Live, it was today.”

Ed Burns and Christy Turlington roll through. He yuks that his favorite movie is Man for the City, which is “about a corrupt mayor of New York who gets caught in a sexual scandal.” (Ahem, Eliot Spitzer.) Michael J. Fox and wife Tracy Pollen pose for photos … and Chevy Chase announces he’s running for president.

Meanwhile, inductee John Mellencamp, Billy Joel and more stop by the On 3 Productions gift lounge, where they pick up D’Annunzio Group International jewelry, a Starlight Tattoo gift card, a New York Health and Racquet Club membership and SONU beverages.

Next year, the ceremony will take place in Cleveland at the actual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I’m going home! So fun.

Family & Friends Gather to Remember Heath

February 9th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

It was a scene Heath Ledger’s family had certainly never hoped nor expected to see, as they said farewell to their beloved son and brother in a private memorial service in the actor’s hometown of Perth, Australia, on Saturday.

"It’s a pretty sad time and we are finding it difficult to cope by ourselves," said Heath’s father Kim before the service. "We do really appreciate the outpouring and the emotional support from all over the world."

Joining the Ledger family for the memorial at Penrhos College, a private boarding school outside of Perth, was Heath’s former girlfriend, and mother of their 2-year-old daughter Matilda, actress Michelle Williams. The Dawson’s Creek star arrived at the service with Heath’s sister Kate, who recounted childhood tales and memories of time spent with her brother.

Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett gave what one mourner described as a "funny and moving eulogy" to the crowd of over 500 mourners, including model Gemma Ward, who was reported to have been romantically linked to Heath.

A note in the program handed out to guests read: "This room is filled with the love we all felt for a great friend who will be missed by all of us. We want to thank those of you who took care of him and participated in his beautiful life."

Throughout the two-hour service, a number of video montages focusing on Heath, his work, his family and friends, played. The clips were scored to songs from some of the actor’s favorite musicians, including The Beatles and his good friend Ben Harper.

Following the memorial service, an intimate funeral for less than a dozen members of the actor’s immediate family was held at Fremantle Cemetery, where Heath’s cremated remains were laid to rest.
