Brad’s Solo Night at the Cinema

November 11th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

It’s got to be tough to be a father of six young kids — even if you are Brad Pitt.

So perhaps that’s why the actor left gal-pal Angelina Jolie and their ever-increasing brood at home on Monday night to head out for a night of solo movie watching in L.A.

An OK! spy spotted the hunky actor walking right through the front doors of the famous Bruin Theatre in West Hollywood, where he sat in the back row of the crowded screening room to take in a showing of Soul Men.

Perhaps Brad’s decision to see this particular film had less to do with getting out of the house and more to do with who’s on the screen, as Soul Men stars the late actor Bernie Mac, a friend and co-star of Brad in Ocean’s 11 and its two sequels.

When the final credits rolled, Mr. Jolie-Pitt slipped out a back door and into a waiting SUV along with his security guard.

Isaac Hayes, Bernie Mac’s Final Director Pays Tribute

August 11th, 2008

Among the masses of Hollywood figures who are today mourning two of the biggest personalities in entertainment, Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes, is director Malcolm Lee, who has just finished a movie starring both men.

"Bernie Mac was a gentleman," said Lee, whose comedy Soul Men is one of the last projects either of the men worked on. "Besides being wildly funny, inventive and talented on stage, on television and in film, Bernie was one of the most sincere people I’ve ever met.

"Bernie cared about you whether you were his best friend or a total stranger. And that care was genuine. Anyone who came into Bernie’s presence was surely touched by his spirit. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He called Mac, who died on Saturday aged 50 from complications related to pneumonia and played the lead in the movie, "one of the industry’s best entertainers" and that he felt "blessed to have had the opportunity to collaborate with him".

Of the Shaft star, who died on Sunday aged 65 from a suspected heart seizure and played himself in the film, Lee said, "Isaac Hayes was a musical genius whose music has and continues to inspire me as a person and a storyteller.

"A warm spirit and an egoless talent, Isaac was as tireless on the film set as he was in the studio. Working with Isaac has been one of the highlights of my career.

"The world has lost a true music legend whose influence on all of us is immeasurable. I will miss him and am grateful that I was blessed to have been in the presence of greatness this past year."

Also adding their voice to the chorus of tributes to the the Ocean’s Eleven star were, two of the most powerful execs in Hollywood, Bob and Harvey Weinstein, co-chairmen of the Weinstein Company.

"Bernie Mac was a brilliant performer whose legacy will bring laughter to all of us for many years to come," they said. "The thoughts of everyone at The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films are with Bernie’s family."

Soul Men is set for release on November 14.

Comedian Bernie Mac Dies

August 9th, 2008

Bernie Mac, who made audiences laugh with his films and hit TV show, has died at the age of 50, following complications from Pneumonia, his publicist confirmed on Saturday.

Mac passed away early this morning at a Chicago-area hospital where he was being treated for pneumonia. Mac had suffered from Sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body’s organs, however he said the condition had been in remission since 2005.

Mac had starring roles in the films Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, Oceans Eleven, Bad Santa and Transformers. He was also the star of his own hit TV show The Bernie Mac Show, which ran from 2001-2006.

Niecy Nash, who played Mac’s sister on The Bernie Mac Show, paid tribute to the actor, saying :

"Bernie Mac was so gracious. His passing is such a major loss to the acting and comedy communities. Everything that I learned and observed from Bernie Mac, I’m going to apply it. His great legacy of graciousness and giving will live on. That’s how I’m going to keep his memory alive; by expressing the best part of him through me. Bernie Mac was the personification of the word ‘real.’ He kept it real. That kind of genuine spirit that he carried all the time cannot be easily duplicated, but I will do my very best to try."

No More “Ocean’s” Films

July 11th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Looks like 13 was an unlucky number for the series of hugely popular George Clooney and Brad Pitt-starring Ocean’s films, as co-star Don Cheadle tells OK! that there won’t be another sequel.

"No," said Don when asked about whether or not there’d be an Ocean’s 14. "Done. It’s a wrap."

This sad news brings to an end the series of films, which started with 2001’s Ocean’s 11 — a semi-remake of the Frank Sinatra-starring 1960 original —and has grossed over $1 billion worldwide. In addition to Cheadle, Pitt and Clooney, the Steven Soderbergh-directed films featured a veritable who’s-who of Hollywood stars, including Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Andy Garcia, Casey Affleck, Al Pacino, Bernie Mac, Scott Caan, Elliott Gould, Carl Reiner and several others.

And even though Don won’t be working with this cavalcade of stars in the near future, he’s very excited about his current projects — producing a TV version of his Oscar-winning 2004 movie Crash for cable network Starz, and an upcoming film in which he’ll portray jazz legend Miles Davis.
