How Stars Spend Super Bowl Sunday

February 1st, 2009

Celebrities love the Super Bowl.

Inkheart star Brendan Fraser tells me he can’t get enough “buffalo wings and suds” while Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively calls out “nachos and hot dogs” as her favorite indulgences during the big game.

This will be Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel’s first Super Bowl. Will he watch? “I guess I will, if you want me to,” he tells me. What will he eat? “I love my popcorn, and a good hot dog,” he tells me. “A big, fat, juicy hot dog because I’m a slumdog. Oh, that was bad.”

How will Mr. and Mrs. Howard Stern spend the big day?

“I will get out my Terrible Towel, and that’s something a Pittsburgher would know,” Beth Ostrosky Stern tells me. “It’s a Pittsburgh thing. It’s towel that has the Pittsburgh Steelers on it. In 1981, we were all waving our Terrible Towels. Howard and I will be watching it up on the big TV, and I’ll probably make turkey chili.”

America’s Next Top Model
judge Nigel Barker won’t be tuning in to watch the big game. “I don’t watch the Super Bowl,” he tells me. “I’m an Englishman. I’m a soccer fan.”

However, Gone Country star Justin Guarini will be watching. “My favorite Super Bowl snack is either a Philly cheese steak, if I can get my hands on one, or a nice Philly pretzel with mustard – French’s mustard,” the season one American Idol runner-up tells me. “It’s a little piece of home because I travel so much. I’ll take every little piece of home I can get.”

Fellow Gone Country star Richard Grieco will order pizza. “It came from it was easy to do back when we were kids, and it’s always been my favorite since then.”

What are his Super Bowl traditions?

“Well, I usually go for one thing, but if I don’t go, I usually watch it by myself because I don’t want any outside interference when I’m concentrating on the game,” Richard says.

Of course, Super Bowl Sunday is a big day for the former 21 Jump Street star. “I watch football every Thursday night, every Saturday, every Sunday, every Monday night. Then I watch NFL Network when I go to sleep, or ESPN when I go to sleep.”

Their Gone Country costar Taylor Dayne adds, “I’ll lay out a table and make sure we have some beer in the house. There’s been everything from nachos to tons and tons.”

Ciara
says, “I look forward to inviting some friends and just sitting down and watching the game.”

Does Saturday Night Live star – and Bride Wars writer – Casey Wilson have any traditions?

“Oh man, I don’t. Yeah, sadly. It sounds like a dumb girl – yeah, I don’t know anything about football. But the truth of that matter is I don’t.”

Keyshia Cole seconds that thought. “I am not into football. Usually I might take my dogs Lyric, Lola and Gizmo to get groomed  … or maybe clean up.”

Cassie
is more traditional. “I’m usually at home with my family eating junk food,” she tells me.

Enjoy your Super Bowl Sunday, everyone!

Jennifer Aniston Gives Up Spotlight

December 18th, 2008

Jennifer Aniston lets her Marley and Me dog Clyde shine during the Tribeca Cinema Series screening of her comedy held Wednesday at Tribeca Cinemas Gallery in NYC.

While she’s off hitting the talk-show circuit, Clyde is being feted with congratulatory barks when he takes the screen during the V.I.P. (Very Important Pooch) event attended by celebs including Denis Leary and Beth Ostrosky Stern and their dogs. (Abigail Breslin stops by the cocktail party sans pup.)

Clyde’s trainer, Mathilde DeCagny, says working with Jennifer was a dream.

Jen was loving, and very attentive,” she tells me. “She’s such a normal, sweet, fun person. There’s no ego, there’s no complication. All she wants to do is be professional and do it right. I never thought she would be that easy and outgoing. We loved her.”

Other pampered pets – like Denis’ dog Daphne – are pleased to be in the company of the movie star pooch.

“She’s flipped out that we brought her where there are other dogs, because she likes to think of herself as special,” Denis tells me. He’s keeping a tight grip on Daphne thanks to help from wife Ann.

The comedian has no regrets for 2008 – even though he inflamed parents with particularly vile comments he made about autism in his book Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid. “I would’ve voted for Obama about ten more times if I could have,” he tells me. “That’s about it.”

This holiday season the Rescue Me star jokes that he will gift his three dogs with cars and designer clothing in exchange for the affection they give him.

“Dogs love you no matter what you smell like, no matter how tired you are, or where you just came from,” Denis says. “No matter what mood you’re in or what’s going on, they always love you. You can’t pay a human being to do that – maybe for an hour, but not much longer than that.”

Mrs. Stern moves along with bulldog Bianca Romijn-Stamos-O’Connell, who recently came home with a pink toe when she brought her along to a manicure appointment. “Howard wasn’t too happy about that,” Beth says.

What’s her dog’s idea of a perfect night?

“Lying in her bed between Howard and me,” she tells me. “She’s so happy right between the two of us.”

For the holiday season, Beth tells me the best pet gift is “lots of love.”

Certainly Jennifer would agree.

Marley and Me is in theaters December 25.

And, pick up the OK! on newsstands now for more on Jennifer Aniston and an At Home with Clyde, the dog featured in Marley and Me. Jennifer Aniston/“Obsessed With Angie” is the cover line.

Looking for a great gift this holiday season? Both Denis Leary and Beth Ostrosky Stern agree that pets make great gifts. Visit your local shelter to give one a home.

Maria Menounos, Sterns Stand Up For Pets

November 19th, 2008

Maria Menounos saves the day during North Shore Animal League’s Dogcatemy Celebrity Gala, which takes place at NYC’s Capitale. Howard Stern and wife Beth talk the Today/Access Hollywood star into filling in as host for Law and Order’s Richard Belzer, who has suddenly fallen ill, moments before festivities begin.

Luckily, Maria couldn’t be more perfect for the gig where pets dressed in top hats, tuxedos and glittery dresses are feted during a fundraiser for the no-kill animal shelter that urges shelter adoption over pet store purchases. Her entry in tonight’s video competition is all about why dogs are better than kids. The comedic satire wins Best Tail Waggin’ Comedy – an honor she shares with Chris Booker.

Maria breaks out her BlackBerry Bold to show me a video.

“There’s my dog Noelle,” she explains. “She’s a quadriplegic poodle. That’s my rescue, Athena, in my tennis court, and that’s my rescue Apollo. He knows he’s on camera. I swear he thinks he’s a superstar. And then they kiss in a minute. They’re my chickies, my little lovebugs. Watch, ready, you’re gonna see this. She sits down like a good girl right next to him, and then watch this – come on – they kiss. This is my favorite thing in the world because I get to stay connected to my dogs.”

Her five pooches have their own special traits.

“When I’ve been sick, my boy bichon Benjamin has never left my side. Only to go to the bathroom, not even for food. And he is the biggest pig in the world. He loves food, but when I’m sick he doesn’t leave my side. My quadriplegic poodle, Noelle, she’s like a healing poodle. When you’re upset, you put her on your chest – and I have five dogs – so I know she has the special power in the group. She’s very healing. My dog Apollo, the big white German shepherd I have, rescued the little bichons when they fell in the pool. Ripped them up by their neck and saved them.”

She adds, “They are gifts from God. I truly believe that. They’re my everything. They’re my kids.”

Here comes Marcia Gay Harden and daughter Eulala, 8, who is decked out in mascara for the big night out. (They win Best Dogumentary!)

How do they spoil their pets? Although Marcia says she doesn’t believe in spoiling pets, she lets Eulala give their border collie some love. “She gave it a little teddy bear,” Marcia tells me. Eulala adds, “I also gave him a baby blanket.” Marcia continues, “It was her own from when she was a baby. She totally gives it baby things, baby blankets, baby bibs. We do take care of them.”

Mya
is thrilled she recently adopted her first kitten, Mellow, from the North Shore Animal League. The owner of three dogs and one cat is gearing up for a brood of her own.

“I really believe animals prepare you for parenting,” the Lady Marmalade singer tells me. “Dogs are a 24-hour job. They are kids. They go to school as well. They’re lovable, loyal animals. They’re very responsive. They absorb a lot of information. They understand whatever language you speak over the course of time. They’re very dedicated to protecting you as the owner, and they look up to you as a child would. Whatever behavior you exemplify, they easily repeat, so if you raise them a certain way, they’ll repeat that behavior. So yes, it’s very similar to raising a kid.”

Here’s TRL host Damien Fahey and girlfriend Grasie Mercedes, who bring dog Hayden out for the evening.  “We bought him the bow tie off the Internet, gave him three treats today and stuck him in a car,” Damien tells me. “It was like a dog nap. We threw him in a town car and he just arrived here and that was it.” He laughs, “This is his first red carpet and I’m already not allowed to look him in the eye. He already has an ego problem.”

Monica Seles’ dogs love chasing tennis balls. “What’s so nice in tennis when you win a match or you lose a match, they’re always just happy to see you. After such a pressured day, it’s so nice to come home, and no matter if I won the match or I lost the match, they treat me the same way. The love they have is truly amazing – and the bond. I love both cats and dogs. They love chasing after the balls. They just really want to be near me. They really want to be part of me.”

Time for dinner! Tonight we have salmon with pickled beets and ginger-carrot broth for the entrée and chocolate passion fruit parfait for dessert. Mmm!

During the ceremony, Howard shocks wife Beth by giving her the Crystal Angel Award. “Howard doesn’t ever do that,” she gushes. “I’m too famous,” he adds. (Too famous indeed – Maria yuks that she’s acting as a shield to hide the supertall DJ from fans before the event.) Beth raised $300,000 for North Shore Animal League by running New York City Marathon on November 2.

Beth jokes that while running in the marathon, different people would say “Oh my God, it’s Beth Stern. Bababooee, bababooee, bababooee” several times as she ran.

And in the gift bag is a pink pet dress complete with diamond heart at the waist. I put it on our cat Mysty, who is totally confused because it’s a little big. Hahaha. The other cat, Spense, seems pleased I didn’t try it on her. Another day…

Howard & Beth: Nice Name!

November 11th, 2008

At the North Shore Animal League America’s DogCatemy Celebrity Gala in NYC on Nov. 6, Howard Stern told OK! that being married "feels different." Stern, 54, and Beth Ostrosky, 36, tied the knot on Oct. 28. Of sharing his name with his new bride, the shock jock told OK!, "I’m proud Beth is sharing my name. Not many people would want that."

Howard presented Beth with the Crystal Angel Award, who told OK! that her parents "love Howard."

Winning the parents approval is something the radio deejay is used to. This is his second try at marriage. Stern wed first wife, Alison, in 1978 and the two had three daughters. Their relationship was famously documented in the film Private Parts. Four years after the movie came out, the couple divorced.

Stern, who vowed on his radio show never to marry again, met Beth in 2000. They became engaged in 2007.

Beth Stern on Babies, Commitment

November 1st, 2008

Howard Stern’s new wife, Beth, is running the New York City marathon this weekend on behalf of the North Shore Animal League.

The couple, who married last month, are “parents” to bulldog Bianca Romijn-Stamos-O’Connell, who participated in the ceremony.

Has owning a pet prepared her for motherhood?

“Oh gosh, I can’t even believe you’re saying that,” Beth, 36, tells me as if I caught her off-guard. “It’s so funny. That was a shock! I never planned on having children, that’s never been a desire of mine. I’m so in love with my dog and with animals and pets and rescue. I hope to have a house filled with animals more than I ever hope to have a child of my own.

All right, well, she dated Howard for eight years before getting him to commit. Can she share any tips for getting a confirmed bachelor to make that lifelong promise?

“Wow,” she says. “ I never wanted to get married. I never thought that was in my cards. I always thought I was just going to be an independent woman my entire life. Hopefully having a partner but never getting married. Howard was actually the one who wanted to get married. From the second that he mentioned it, I was all in. I was so excited. I don’t know that I have any tips, it’s just if something’s meant to be, you should follow your heart. I’m doing something I never thought I would ever do, and it’s just been the best part of my world. I’m so blissfully happy, and I can’t imagine not marrying Howard. I’m so excited.”

Beth Stern’s Magical Wedding

October 23rd, 2008

The former Ms. Ostrosky, Beth Stern, is getting used to her new name, although at first it sounded odd.

"I’m liking it," she said on Good Day New York this morning. "I think at first, I’m 36 years old, saying this on TV, but it’s always been ‘Beth Ostrosky’ for 36 years so the Stern name kind of threw me. But now, it’s just flowing off nicely."

Beth and her new husband, radio shock jock Howard Stern, were married earlier this month in a star-studded ceremony, with the likes of Barbra Walters, Donald Trump, Chevy Chase and Billy Joel.

"We did a family celebration in the Hamptons a month prior, so this was just our Hollywood, fun, Howard’s work people, associates [celebration] and a lot of, it happened to be celebs be cause they’re friends of Howard’s."

So with so many famous faces in attendance, did any of the usual wedding shenanigans go down?

"That happened to be Billy Joel grabbing the microhphone and singing which wasn’t planned. It was just magical, " she says of the entire wedding.

However Beth, who’s been training for the NYC marathon for the past six months, jumped right into her running shoes the next day.

"I’ve gone through the Roadrunner’s first-time marthaon program and I’m running for the North Shore Animal League America, which I’m the proud spokesperson for."

Although Beth originally set her fundraising goal at $262,000 – $10,000 per mile – she’s already gone above that, with the help of Rachael Ray and her new dog food, Nutrish.

"They sponsored me $50k so I’m up to $280,000 dollars, I’m so excited," she gushed.

Inside Howard Stern’s Wedding

October 7th, 2008

For Howard Stern, not even a wedding can be normal.

The shock jock and his bride Beth Ostrosky are enjoying their first days as a married couple after an unconventional wedding — in which soap actor Mark Consuelos officiated the ceremony and the couple’s bulldog, Bianca, served as the only bridesmaid!

Afterward, guests at the Oct. 3 nuptials held at NYC’s Le Cirque restaurant, including Kelly Ripa, the Trumps and Barbara Walters, enjoyed a Billy Joel set, with Full House star John Stamos playing the drums throughout the night.

“He’s everything I dreamt a perfect mate would be. He’s beautiful, funny and smart,” Beth, 36, tells OK! of her hubby, 54. “I’m so blissfully happy.”

Howard started dating the gorgeous and multi-talented model, TV presenter and actress back in 2000, but they only got engaged on Valentines Day, 2007.

The Private Parts star was married once before to his college sweetheart, Alison Berns. They have three children together — Emily, Deborah and Ashley — but parted amicably in 1999.

Howard Stern & Beth Ostrosky’s Manhattan Marriage

October 3rd, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

It was a star-studded affair in the Big Apple on Friday night as Howard Stern and longtime girlfriend Beth Ostrosky tied the knot in a ceremony held at famous NYC restaurant Le Cirque.

In attendance for the nuptials were of course Howard’s on-air cohorts like constant co-host Robin Quivers and favorite whipping boy Benji Bronck. But there were bigger marquee names there for the ceremony as well: John Stamos, Billy Joel and wife Katie Lee Joel, musician and film director Rob Zombie, red-carpet terror Joan Rivers, Barbara Walters, Kelly Ripa and her husband, Mark Consuleos, who actually officiated over the ceremony!

"Kelly and Mark are friends of ours," Beth told OK! just days ago. "And from the moment we met Mark, we just absolutely felt so comfortable and safe and feel he’s so genuine and just a wonderful person. We’re so honored to have him officiate."

Beth also revealed to OK! that she never thought of herself as the blushing-bride type before she met Howard. "I never wanted to get married. I never thought that was in my cards," she said. "Howard was actually the one who wanted to get married. From the second that he mentioned it, I was all in… I’m so blissfully happy, and I can’t imagine not marrying Howard. I’m so excited."

The new Mrs. Howard Stern got into wedding shape by preparing to run in the upcoming New York City Marathon on Nov. 2.. Beth will run the race on behalf of The North Shore Animal League and hopes to raise $262,000 for the cause.

This is Howard’s second marriage and Beth’s first. The couple are planning to honeymoon in the Hamptons.
