‘Twilight Saga’ Star Xavier Samuel Dishes On ‘Eclipse’ & Celeb Crushes

May 18th, 2009
Mary Louise Parker is a talented actress, single mother and a beauty of both the stage and screen. So it’s a bit surprising to hear that she was far from the most popular girl in her high school.
"I never had a date in high school, not one,” she tells More magazine of her crippling awkwardness. That all changed when she went off to college at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. At 17 she became an overnight success. “Every boy wanted to date me. It’s because I was at school with a bunch of artists, a bunch of freaks. It was OK to be what I was. Knowing this made me come out of myself.”
Mary Louise has had to come out of herself quite a bit, appearing on the stage and in movies, as well as the popular show, Weeds. But breaking up with ex Billy Crudup while she was pregnant is something else that’s made her think about someone besides herself.
“I’ve never commented on the situation, and I won’t because it’s not fair to my son," she says, before adding, “Who wins? No child can benefit in that situation. Your love for your child should eclipse any other feelings you have for another person.”
And even for a gorgeous actress, it seems the dating scene can be tough these days for a single mom.
“Some men are daunted by it, some are really attracted," she explains. "I had someone ask, ‘Does this mean we can’t go out anytime we want?’ And I said, ‘Yes, that’s exactly what it means. It means you come fourth, ‘cause it’s my kids, my job, my family.’ I don’t ever want to come first to anyone. It’s too much pressure," she admits.
Billy Crudup is Larger Than Life
March 3rd, 2009
In Watchmen, Billy Crudup’s character, Dr. Manhattan, basically bares it all, as a glowing, blue, totally naked superhero. So the question just has to be asked: Was the star actually walking around set in the buff to get into his part?
"I am naked often, but was not naked that I recall during filming," he reveals in a new interview with Parade.com. "I wore a pair of what were pretty elaborate pajamas and they were studded with about 1,200 blue LED’s so that Dr. Manhattan would glow blue. There were also motion capture electrodes on my body and I had over a hundred on my face. They all sent data into a computer that really created the Dr. Manhattan you see on the screen. My performance was basically just laying the groundwork for the CGI."
As for that in your face nakedness, Billy says he got teased a little bit about the endowment Dr. Manhattan sports during the flick.
"I’m not saying how much the computer helped. Actually, I didn’t fully expect the interest that Dr. Manhattan’s genitalia has received. But I understood his motivation for baring it all," he says. "Why would the guy with all this power really care about a uniform? He doesn’t need to obey society’s constraints because, if he wanted to, he could destroy society. So I think he kind of feels like, ‘You know what? I enjoy a good breeze on my private parts.’ "
Don’t we all?
Billy Crudup Charms During TropFest NY
October 1st, 2008
While Julianne Moore stays locked inside her VIP suite, The Hills star Whitney Port causes a Britney Spears-style frenzy when she enters TropFest NY, the world’s largest short film festival held at World Financial Center Plaza in NYC. She flips her blonde mane as she saunters away from the melee. A camera crew captures her every move.
Billy Crudup is remarkably relaxed and friendly when he arrives. “Hey, how’s it going?” the ex of Mary-Louise Parker and Claire Danes begins. Donning a flannel, the handsome devil who is judging the festival doesn’t have all the answers, but at least he’s nice about it – even if he doesn’t want to go there.
“What surprised you about your Public Enemies costar Johnny Depp?” I ask.
“I actually didn’t work with him,” he responds. “Most of my stuff was with Christian Bale because I played J. Edgar Hoover and Christian Bale played Purvis, the FBI guy who got Dillinger. I wasn’t involved with Depp.”
OK, well what about Christian Bale?
“He played Agent Purvis, the guy who catches Dillinger. Basically I sat behind the desk and gave him orders. It’s a very small part. The story is really about Johnny Depp and Christian Bale.”
A-ha. Since TropFest is imported from Australia, what does Billy like to do when he’s Down Under? “I’ve never been to Australia. I have been to New Zealand but I’m learning that that’s not Australia.”
Luckily, Delta Goodrem is Australian and she’s here to usher in the NYC version of her country’s famed festival. She recommends visiting Torranga Zoo in Sydney and taking in Ayers Rock in Alice Springs.
She coos with delight when I tell her Olivia Newton-John sang her praises this summer. The duo recorded Right Here With You for ONJ’s Celebration In Song CD, which also includes duets with Keith Urban, Richard Marx and Jann Arden. Proceeds benefit The Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre.
“Ohh! We always call each other up if we’ve got charities coming up, and say ‘can you help me out here?’” Delta, 23, who battled Hodgkin’s Disease at 18, tells me. “She’s beautiful. She’s been a wonderful guiding light to me.”
We hear Josh Lucas is on deck at the afterparty. He’s always a good time.
Mary-Louise Parker Talks Movies and Motherhood
February 4th, 2008 / Author: cwillett
Mary-Louise Parker is scared of things that go ‘bump’ in the night. "When I hear a noise , I do jump pretty much to the ceiling," the actress, says. "I’m really jittery at night. I don’ t like the dark." It’s hard to believe that Parker, 43, is scared of the dark when she seems to excel at much ’scarier’ notions, like being a single parent and a working mom.
OK! met up with Mary-Louise at NYC’s Regency Hotel, where the actress was eager to talk about motherhood and how it helped her relate to her role in her latest project, The Spiderwick Chronicles.
"I hope I’m a better mother in some ways, and I’d like to be as good as her in others," Parker says of her character in the film. "I mean, every parent fails. That’s what I like about this character, she’s not perfect. She loses her temper, she’s impatient, she makes bad decisions like most parents."
Parker is currently dating actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Grey’s Anatomy) and has a 4-year-old son, William, with ex Billy Crudup (the two split while she was still pregnant). In September, she expanded her brood with the adoption of a baby girl she named Ash.
When it comes to being a single mom, Parker says she doesn’t sweat the small stuff. "Of course I think about myself, but I think about my children 25 hours a day," she says. "I think about my children as I walk in the door, so I don’ t think in terms of ‘oh if my life were…’ That’s not good for them. Your children suffer when you have one foot in the past."
The Spiderwick Chronicles opens in theaters Feb. 14 on Valentine’s Day.
