Country singer Miranda Lambert swapped her jeans and cowboy boots for pretty party frocks, meeting up with OK! on a fashion shoot at the Historic Carnation Plantation in iFranklin, Tenn., where she dished on her fashion must-haves (hello, Spanx!), resisting the pressure to be pin thin and why she loves Beyoncé. Miranda Lambert’s Simple Yet Sassy Style
October 3rd, 2009 / Author: Mary Beth QuirkMiranda Lambert & Blake Shelton on Tour!
September 8th, 2008
No need to struggle with the rigors of a long-distance relationship - country stars and lovebirds Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton are going on tour together.
"For obvious reasons, Miranda and I have wanted to tour together for a while now," Blake says. "We wanted to do something special that nobody else can pull off. The result is a unique show packed full of music and energy that will leave people wondering what the hell is going to happen next."
Under the tour theme of "Seamless," the artists will play music from their current albums, accompanied by both of their bands: Miranda bringing out hits from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, the ACM’s reigning Album of the Year and Blake performing songs from his Pure BS deluxe album.
Throughout each show the two musicians will also perform acoustic sets together, before reuniting on stage with their bands for a grand finale.
"I’ve always thought that Blake is one of the greatest artists in country music and he brings such a dynamic presence to his performances," Miranda says. "Pairing up for these shows will not only be fun for us, but I think it’s going to be an amazing show for the fans."
Now that’s the way to have a career and a relationship!
Miranda Lambert Fancies Farm Animals
September 4th, 2008
Miranda Lambert is a country gal at heart. Her farm is filled with all kinds of animals.
“I got my first turkey this year,” she says. “We can’t always be together but we’re special friends.”
The country singer, who is dating Blake Shelton, has a big heart when it comes to small creatures.
“We have a new dog named Hank,” the 24-year-old artist says. “Blake actually texted me on the road. ‘Here’s our new dog.’ He found him on the side of the road. So we got another one. We have six dogs in all, along with sheep and everything. Hopefully we’re done. There’s a stopping point on my farm because it’s getting to be a really bad habit.”
What’s the strangest present she’s received?
“Probably a box of chickens. One of my fans, we call him Chicken Man Dan, he sent me 24 chickens in the mail. Now I’m raising them!”
When she’s on the road, her animals aren’t faraway.
“I play with my dogs before I go onstage,” she says.

Blake & Miranda: Perfect Harmony
June 24th, 2008
They say opposites attract but country couple Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton are more like two peas in a pod.
"We help balance each other out," Miranda,24, explains to OK!. "I have a tendency to take myself too seriously."
Except when it comes to summer fun. "We love to be outside," the "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" singer confesses. "We love to go fishing, hunting, and riding four-wheelers, and to sit around the campfire."
As for Blake’s take? "I just love to look at her," he tells OK!. A true romantic, the 32-year old surprised his sweetheart after she received her Academy of Country Music Award nominations. "I sent her four dozen roses," he told OK!."
Stars Line Up at CMT Awards
April 23rd, 2008
Nicole Kidman towers over hubby Keith Urban as they swan into the CMT Awards, which take place at Belmont University in Nashville. Her baby bump is minimal, and she waves as fans shriek. Carrie Underwood makes her way in at 6:41, but hostess-with-the-mostess Miley Cyrus causes the biggest stir when she walks the purple carpet in a print dress at 6:24.
Aside from Paula Abdul, whose teeth are chattering, celebs donning minimal gowns refrain from making their shivers known on this unseasonably cold evening. “Your hands are warm,” the American Idol judge tells me after a handshake.
Whoa! Naomi Judd actually stands in line to talk to me when I am in the midst of speaking with AI’s Bucky Covington. Insanity! I do adore the Judds – and Naomi is brilliant. I smile on the inside when I see Alan Jackson and his wife about to do the same. I mean, it’s Alan Jackson! (“Way down yonder on the Chattahoochee…”)
OMG, Crystal Gayle is here, too. I loved her when I was a little, little, little kid. She had that amazing floor-length-long hair, and still does. “I love OK!” she says. Who is her favorite young artist? “I think LeAnn Rimes is a great vocalist,” she tells me.
Sara Evans struts up with fiancé Jay Baker. She’s a favorite, too. (Remember Born To Fly? Good stuff!) Little Big Town’s Kimberly Roads confesses she’s a lil’ nervous about performing. Jewel adores her “sweet, feminine” dress.
Now Brad Paisley and his wife, and then Faith Hill and Tim McGraw slide through. Here’s LeAnn with hubby Dean Sheremet in tow.
Taylor Swift greets me with “Hey! How are you?” and reveals the inspiration for her song Teardrops on My Guitar. “It’s about a guy named Drew who I went to school with. I wrote it in ninth grade. It was a guy I really liked and he had no idea. But I think he knows now.” Well, probably.
Miranda Lambert tells me boyfriend Blake Shelton helped her pick out her dress, but he didn’t take great care in finding his duds. “Want me to be honest with you?” he says. “I’ve had these jeans on now – I wore them in Toronto, Canada on Friday, I wore them in Michigan on Saturday, I wore them to Bass Pro Shops on Sunday, and I decided I’m on such a roll that they were ready for this CMT Awards show. These are my good old Wrangler blue jeans. They fit better the longer you wear them.”
Meanwhile, Kristian Kane fractured his ankle in three places while filming a movie in Lake Tahoe. “It was hard getting these jeans over this boot, but I sacrificed comfort for style,” he tells me.
AI’s Diana DeGarmo waves hello, and the boys and girl of Lady Antebellum give me a wave and “hey, how you doing?” Maureen “Marcia Brady” McCormick also says “hi.”
Wow, country music has a lot of cute guys. I count Chuck Wicks, Jason Aldean, Jake Owen and Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley – Josh’s brother — among them. (There are more, too, but off the top of my head.)
Laura Bell Bundy, who starred in Broadway’s Legally Blonde, has gone country with her album Longing For A Place Already Gone. “I call it y’all-ternative,” she laughs. “I’m very influenced by Loretta Lynn’s albums from long ago and her recent album she did with Jack White. She’s a beautiful songwriter, she’s very honest and real. It’s actually her birthday today.”
I bet she’s excited to meet [her sister] Crystal Gayle, too.
Check out the OK! on stands this week for more coverage of the CMT Awards. “Katie Fights Back: Don’t Mess With My Family” is the cover line.
Stars Get Ready for CMT Awards
April 13th, 2008
Country’s biggest stars are in Nashville for the CMT Awards, which take place tonight at Belmont University.
I can’t wait to meet Miley Cyrus, who is hosting with dad Billy Ray Cyrus, but so far I’ve gotten to chat with a few of country’s hottest stars during my time in the country capital.
What does performer/nominee Carrie Underwood love about the show?
“There’s a little less pressure because everybody gets to relax up their clothes and stuff and do more funky, fun performances,” she tells me. “It’s still an awards show and you want the people to like you. They’re the ones calling the shots.”
Performer/nominee Taylor Swift is trying to keep her cool.
“You can’t control awards shows. I’ve come to terms with that I can control what I say, I can control how I act, I can control what I do on the stage, but I can’t control awards shows, so I try not to get nervous about it.”
How will presenter Miranda Lambert prepare for the big night?
“It’s two hours of glam — hair and makeup, that kind of stuff. It’s not too bad actually — this is one of the most laidback awards shows that I’ve been to, so it’s sort of easy.”
Miranda’s boyfriend, nominee Blake Shelton, admits he can’t wait to line dance to the Electric Slide at the afterparty.
Performer/nominee LeAnn Rimes isn’t the least bit nervous.
“I’ve been doing this since I was a baby,” she tells me. “I’m pretty much used to it by now.”
What’s presenter Reba McEntire’s best beauty tip?
“Take your makeup off at night, wash your face and moisturize,” she tells me.
The stars like to unwind when they can.
“After the red carpet, we’ll go try and find something to eat,” nominee Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild tells me. “That’s about as relaxed as we’ll get.”
Dad-to-be/nominee Rascal Flatts’ Joe Don Rooney hopes to golf while he’s in Nashville.
“I love golf," he tells me. “I absolutely am ate-up with golf. I would love to be playing golf every day of my life. Maybe that’s what I’ll do one of these days. Retire young and just play golf. I’m ate-up with it. I really am. I watch it all the time. I drive the guys nuts on the bus. I always have it on the golf channel 24/7. I usually play every day at home if I’ve got the time.”
Tune into the CMT Awards, which air tonight at 8 p.m./7 Central.
Nick Lachey: Ready to Rumble
December 17th, 2007
Nick Lachey is getting his game on tonight in Clash of the Choirs, a weeklong live celebrity choral competition. Nick handpicked 20 singers from his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio, to compete against four other choirs lead by heavy weight recording artists Patti LaBelle and Michael Bolton, country superstar Blake Shelton and Destiny Child’s alum Kelly Rowland. The winning team will donate the $250,000 grand prize to improving their community. My high school show choir was never quite like this!
I caught up with Nick last night at the show’s dress rehearsal, where the former boy band star told me his group is up for the vocal challenge. “They’re motivated. They’ve worked too hard to come up here and lay an egg,” Nick laughed.
The choirs will perform a variety of musical styles including gospel, rock and country. On Wednesday night, the remaining teams will perform holiday music. Nick’s advice for his team to go the distance? “Be yourselves,” he shared with me. “Just because it’s live TV, you’ve been performing great, so keep doing what you’ve been doing and have fun. If they’re up on stage and loving what they’re doing, people at home are going to read and admire that and hopefully vote for them.”
Nick’s hoping to get his own cheering section in the form of girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo, who might pop up in Clash’s studio audience over the next four nights. “You never know where she will turn up,” he said. “We’ll have to wait and see.”
Clash of the Choirs begins Monday, Dec. 17 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
