Will Leo Get Married?

October 9th, 2008

Famous for his on-off relationships, Leonardo DiCaprio is playing coy about his future
with current squeeze, Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli.

Asked at the Oct. 5 NYC premiere of Body of Lies if he plans to settle down or remain a bachelor, Leo told OK!, “We’ll see.”

Meanwhile, Russell Crowe, who re-teams with Leo for the first time since 1995’s The
Quick and the Dead
, praised his now-adult co-star.

“He was connected to his environment and heart as a kid,” Russell tells OK!. “He’s had tremendous success, but he still is that same well-connected, big-hearted bloke.”

Leo agrees he hasn’t changed and admits he still dreams of being an environmental scientist.

“It’s piqued my interest since I was very young,” Leo tells OK!. “I loved biology — I loved science.”

Leo Chooses Content Over Cash

October 6th, 2008

Although political films don’t always tend to go over well at the box office, Leonardo DiCaprio says that played no part in his decision to take on his newest role.

"It’s really never anything that I thought about," he said Sunday night at the premiere of Body of Lies in NYC, which benefited the Natural Resources Defense Council. "When you have the opportunity to do a film that’s pertinent to the world and have something to say about that, combined with Ridley Scott, you just do it. Worry about what comes later."

In Body of Lies, Leo plays a CIA operative involved in investigating a potential terrorist operative in the Middle East, sent to Jordan by a manipulative boss, played by Russell Crowe. Like Blood Diamond, the film is sure to get people talking, especially during election season, something that Leonardo says he doesn’t purposely aim for.

"I’ve never sought out those types of movies specifically," he says. "Certainly Blood Diamond had a great political undertone and was very topical and pertinent to issues that people are discussing worldwide. It happened to be incorporated from that scenario. That happens with both of the films. I never sort of thought that out."

And while Leo is definitely an advocate of many high-profile causes – the Body of Lies premiere benefited the National Resources Defense Council, an organization the actor says has implemented important environmental policies – he says his goal is not to push his views on anyone.

"The thing we most tried to do in the creation of the film is not bring any of our politics into play," he says. "You give an audience a realistic, stark view, negative and positive, of the United States and foreign relations worldwide. The film at its core deals with CIA and espionage. It has a duality to it."

However politics come into play, Leo says the film is open to interpretation, and fans can decide for themselves how they feel about it.

"It’s villifying both ends of the spectrum. I don’t think we’re making the United States or the Middle East heroic," he says. "It’s war. It’s warfare. At the end of the day, it’s their decision."

Leo: Hard to Talk About Love

October 1st, 2008

Leonardo DiCaprio doesn’t regret making Titanic, but please, don’t call him a heartthrob.

"It wasn’t what I wanted to be," Leo tells Parade.com. "It was like a runaway train. This thing just took off. I didn’t understand what was happening to me. My instinctive reaction to this tabloid madness was to want to run away.”

And run he did, staying out of movies for awhile and trying to protect his private life.

“I am proud to have been in Titanic,” he says. “I’m grateful for the possibilities it’s given me. If it hadn’t been for that movie, I wouldn’t have been able to take control of my career. It was during that time that I started to think about things that meant more to the world than this glorified, superficial media exposure of me, something I never felt was justified."

But for the last few years Leonardo has been back in the public eye, garnering Oscar nominations for a string of non-heartthrob roles in movies like Blood Diamond and The Aviator; working with former Vice President Al Gore against global warming and of course, romancing famous models like Gisele Bündchen and, most recently, Bar Refaeli.

Although he once said love and marriage weren’t for him, the Body of Lies actor says all that’s changed.

“What I definitely feel a need for is to make my life about more than just my career,” he confesses in the interview. “Just last night I was thinking to myself how little of my life has been lived normally and not spent on some far-off movie location. I want to get married and have children. In saying that, I realize I am contradicting everything I’ve said before. I absolutely believe in marriage.”

Don’t expect him to go blabbing to anyone who will listen about his personal life, however.

“It’s hard to talk about this stuff,” he says. “I want to keep some of this for myself. When we talk about ourselves, we know the bad parts, too.”

Russell Crowe: My Children Tamed Me

September 30th, 2008

Forget the image of an angry, hot-tempered man ready to fight anyone, Russell Crowe says he’s changed, and his children are partly responsible for taming his wild ways.

"The drinking thing has sort of taken a different place in my life since I had kids," he tells Extra of his two boys with wife Danielle, Charles and Tennyson.

"There’s a whole lot of things I don’t do anymore because it affects my level of patience," he adds. "I don’t want to be in that place where I’m exasperated with these beautiful children."

And although he’s been the brunt of a few fat jokes lately as his former Gladiator body appeared to have been expanding, Russell reveals that the extra poundage was all for a role in his upcoming film Body of Lies, in theaters Oct. 10.

"It’s a substantial amount!" he says of the 63 pounds he packed on by eating cupcakes and other fatty foods. He adds that a typical day for him could start with "I’ll have the cheeseburger for breakfast, thank you."

Other rumors surrounding the actor have him working with Guy Ritchie for his upcoming Sherlock Holmes flick; however Russell says the hype isn’t true… for now.

"I’m really interested in working with Guy Ritchie," he tells Extra." I think he’s a stylish filmmaker."

Leo & Russell: Dynamic Duo

September 29th, 2008

15 years after they appeared together in the film The Quick and the Dead, Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio have once again joined forces in the new spy thriller, Body of Lies.

In an interview with Extra, Crowe says not much has changed between the two actors, despite the long time apart on screen.

"It’s pretty much exactly the same except he [DiCaprio] can drink legally now and he’s no longer a virgin," the Academy-Award winner joked of his younger co-star.

The two are apart enough in years to have formed a sort of fragile sibling relationship.  Russell recalls a practical joke he played on Leo involving a spray bottle.

"I’d wait until he was sitting in the makeup chair and I’d walk past him and go ‘Achew!’ and I’d squirt the atomizer so just little bits of fine mist would form on his face and he’d obviously assume it was mucus," Crowe remembers.

Having learned the truth, DiCaprio says, "I’m really happy.  It’s been bothering me for decades."

Meanwhile, Russell has another project coming up that requires him to don, shall we say, a scruffier look for the film Robin Hood.

Of having to wear long hair, the actor says, "It’s like walking around with a dead Koala on your back."

Hmmm, now there’s a visual!

For the entire interview, tune in to Extra tonight!
