Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley Nov. 11All of country music’s biggest stars were in Nashville last night for the 43rd Annual Country Music Awards. Hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley were energetic and kept the crowd going. Carrie changed 10 times and performed during the awards show. The always gracious Taylor Swift couldn’t believe she won Entertainer of the Year, and also performed along with Reba McEntire, Martina McBride and other country divas. It was definitely ladies night!

Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley Talk Fatherhood

June 19th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

Brad Paisley’s son William “Huck” Huckleberry, 2, is adjusting to life as a big brother now that Jasper, two months, has arrived.

“Most of the time, I think he loves his brother,” the Then singer, who has been married to wife Kimberly since 2003, says backstage during the CMA Music Festival held in Nashville. “It depends on the day. There are certain days when he is not so certain about us – that he’s got the right parents. No, he likes his brother a lot. It’s good. You know how it is. It’s a little bit of a shock for a little boy to share things, and one that I’m glad he has to experience and I never had to.”

Josh Turner and wife Jennifer, who have been married since 2003, are getting ready to welcome a new addition “very soon.” Their son Hampton, 3, loves to go fishing with dear old dad, and they recently “caught quite a few fish.”

“We’ve been trying to prepare Hampton for the new sibling,” he says backstage. “I don’t think he totally understands, but he’s ready. He’s ready for a partner in crime. We’re trying to prepare. We’re excited; we’re ready.”

Dierks Bentley is celebrating his first Father’s Day now that daughter Evalyn, eight months, is in his life. Mom is wife Cassidy, whom he wed in 2005.

“I’m definitely going to get an extra bus and take everyone out,” the Sideways singer says. “It takes on a whole new meaning. I was the type to make a phone call and kind of forget-to-send-a-card-on-time son, and I feel bad. Now that I’m a dad, it’s like I expect some things here. Cards? I mean, it’s my life’s mission. Really, in our house, it’s Mother’s Day that deserves all the major praise with what she went through this year.”

Twilight and Nurse Jackie star Peter Facinelli, who is dad to Luca, 12, Lola, 6, and Fiona, 2, with Jennie Garth, whom he married in 2001, doesn’t expect all the attention come Sunday.

“I make sure I send my dad a card,” he tells me.

Rodney Atkins will be on the road but hopes to carve out time with son Elijah, 7, whose mom is wife Tammy. “We’re gong to be in Minnesota by the lake. Hopefully we’re gonna go fishing.”

Trace Adkins has five daughters – twenty-somethings Tarah and Sarah, from his first marriage – and his younger children Mackenzie, Brianna and Trinity, by wife Rhonda, whom he wed in 1997.

“I am a hero to them now because I did the Opry a few weeks ago with Taylor [Swift], and my kids got to go in her dressing room and hang out with her, and it was a thrill for them. When Miley [Cyrus] played here last year, they got to go in her dressing room and meet her. They really think a lot of me for that.”

Darius Rucker
agrees. While his youngest son Jack likes karate and superheroes, his oldest daughter Carol and middle daughter Danielle are all about Miley and the Jonas Brothers.

“The first thing that happened to me with fatherhood is I realized the whole world didn’t revolve around me,” he tells me with laugh. “That was a big thing.”

Kimberly and Brad Paisley Welcome a Son!

April 17th, 2009

Congratulations are in order for Kimberly Williams-Paisley and hubby Brad Paisley – the couple welcomed their second son  to the family this morning in Nashville. The famous twosome are already proud parents to William Huckleberry "Huck," who was born in February, 2007.

According to statement from their rep, mother and baby are resting comfortably.

Kimberly starred in Father of the Bride and was a regular character on TV series According to Jim and TV movies like ABC Family’s Lucky Seven. Brad is the reigning ACM and CMA Male Vocalist, with over 10 million albums sold to his name. The couple were married in March, 2003.

Reese, Nicole, Shania Wow During CMAs

November 20th, 2008

I’m stationed near Maureen McCormick when I jet down to Nashville for the CMA Awards held at the Sommet Center. Woo-hoo!

Reese Witherspoon is radiant in red lipstick – shockingly gorgeous – but doesn’t answer when a reporter asks if she likes country music. Does she stay in a hotel when she’s in Nashville? Nah, she’s staying with her family. Nicole Kidman swans in with hubby Keith Urban, but steps back because she’s letting her hubby “enjoy his night.” Here’s Shania Twain, looking glam – and blonder – than I remember. Nice!

Energetic Miley Cyrus stops to chat, and her kind dad Billy Ray takes a photo of her limelight-loving boyfriend Justin Gaston with fawning female fans. Hahaha. And Taylor Swift is wearing 30-pound dress! “I cannot even believe I was able to walk to the red carpet,” she says. “Try to lift it up. It’s so heavy. It’s like wearing a bag of rocks, but I really like it, so I’m proud to wear this bag of rocks.”

Kellie Pickler has BFF Taylor’s back when it comes to boy troubles. “She’s like my little sister, so I’m very protective of her,” Kellie tells me. “She definitely comes first.” Now that Taylor is getting over the heartbreak of her relationship with Joe Jonas, Kellie is there as she finds a new man. “She just needs someone who is very respectful and understanding of her career,” Kel says. “You know, it’s very time-consuming what we do, so you need someone that’s confident and secure and just a good person. Just respectful.”

Dancing With The Stars performer Julianne Hough is out and about since her surgery for endometriosis. “Oh, I’m fine,” she tells me. “I’m honestly better than new. I feel great, and like I said, better than I felt before I even went in for surgery.” Her boyfriend, Chuck Wicks, was there through it all. “It was easy,” he tells me. “We rented a bunch of movies and we sat on the couch and ate popcorn. And we got a little puppy. Puppies can cure everything. Between the movies, popcorn and the puppy – and her mom was there as well –she recovered pretty quick. It was two weeks, and she was back on the dancefloor doing her thing.” (Bummer! She’s now off the show.)

What’s Reba McEntire’s pre-show ritual? “I just make sure my dress is correctly in place, I’ve got lipgloss on and I get onstage,” she says. “I am not that good at practical jokes, and they always think of better  — or worse ones – than I can.”

Dancing With The Stars/Hannah Montana star Cody Linley is here to support Julianne and see Miley, but he’s also getting back to his roots. “I actually lived in Columbia from the ages of two to four. I don’t remember much of it, but to see autumn and see what Nashville is all about and remember again is cool.” Sadly, he’s off the show, too, which is unfortunate considering he had the will to win. “I was just going to say that my birthday’s November 20, and November 25 is the finale of Dancing With The Stars, so it would be the best 19th birthday present a boy could get to have a mirrorball trophy. Man! Winning right there. That’s my hope.” Aww!

American Idol finalist Diana DeGarmo is thinking of Paula Abdul in the wake of the tragic fan incident that occurred outside her home. “Paula’s a wonderful person and she deserves great things,” Diana tells me. “She’s got a great personality and that’s a horrible thing to have to deal with. She’s in my prayers — definitely.”

Miranda Lambert confesses she’s a big eBay shopper whose maximum bid is $100. “I’m cheap.” Does she get upset when she’s outbid? “Yes, I do. I take it personal.” Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles can’t wait to dress warmer. “I’m too excited about winter coming up,” Jennifer says. “I’m into the layered look.”

The Little Big Town girls are in awe of tourmate Carrie Underwood. “She has the best legs in the business,” Kimberly Roads says. Karen Fairchild adds, “She’s a super-disciplined person, so she eats well and she exercises every day. We’re like ‘oh Lord, we’ve gotta up our game. In the gym!’”

Here’s Hootie and The Blowfish singer Darius Rucker. What’s the best marriage advice he’s received? “My wife is always right,” he laughs.

Lady Antebellum
take time to reveal their heights – Charles Kelley, 6’6,” Hillary Scott, 5’9,” and Dave Haywood, 6’1” – on the red carpet before they’re shocked by their big win for Best New Artist. They brought their moms as their dates.

“When I was younger, I didn’t attend the CMAs when [mom Linda Davis] won the CMA with Reba, but I was her date for a couple of different CMA Awards,” Hillary says. “For her to be here tonight as my date, and for her to have this crystal trophy on her shelf at home in the house I grew up in, and for me to be taking one home tonight is just crazy. She’s so proud. There’s nothing better than sitting there when the nominees were being read off and holding my mama’s hand. Knowing that she knew exactly what it felt like. We were so lucky to have our moms here. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them.”

Charles adds, “They were crying their eyes out.”

PRESS ROOM:  “I’ve never seen so much of Brad Paisley,” cohost Carrie Underwood gushes about his quick change backstage. The 45-second strip is also a highlight for Brad. “I was still getting dressed walking out,” he says. … Kenny Chesney, who has the hots for Shania, challenges Sugarland to take his Entertainer of the Year Award next year. … Rascal Flatts singer Joe Don Rooney calls fatherhood “amazing.” He says, “To be a father is just a big piece of that puzzle now that’s going to carry us on through the years.”

PARTY TIME: I catch Gretchen Wilson on her way inside the venue, Taylor Swift in the elevator at the Big Machine/Valory Records party and oh yes, there’s Jewel. The salmon and especially the mashed potatoes are amazing – so good! — at the official CMA Awards afterparty. Delish.

Carrie Underwood Wins Big at CMAs

November 13th, 2008

The stars certainly shone last night at the 42nd Annual Country Music Association awards, and there were more than a few familiar faces.

Carrie Underwood, who also hosted and performed at the ceremony, won Best Female Vocalist for the third year in a row. The country darling, who’s rocketed to stardom since winning American Idol, even moved her mom to tears when she took the stage to sing "Just a Dream."

"Mama, it’s real hard to sing when you’re in the second row crying," she teased.

Kenny Chesney continued his streak of big wins at the awards as well, scooping up the top prize of Entertainer of the Year for the fourth time in five years. Carrie’s co-host Brad Paisley mirrored her win with his second consecutive award for Best Male Vocalist.

Sugarland capitalized on their suprising win last year for Best Duo and nabbed that prize again to start their own string of wins. In 2007 fans were surprised when the twosome dethroned longtime winners Brooks & Dunn.

Country legend George Strait is used to toting him awards, and he also shocked no one this year by snagging the prize for Best Album for  Troubadour, minutes after leaving the stage for his performance of "River of Love."

With all these repeat winners there weren’t many surprises, but hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Brad Paisley: Arrested?

October 21st, 2008

Brad Paisley has been pranking tourmate Jewel for weeks now, jokes that he thought were done with after their last gig in San Antonio, Texas last Saturday.

He thought wrong.

After Brad and his crew landed in Nashville early on Sunday morning via private jet, they were greeted by two police cars flashing their lights. An officer asked for the country star to step out of the plane so he could speak with him, and told the others to remain onboard the jet.

"We haave warrants out of Texas and Tennessee for you," the retired cop says. "We’ll get you downtown and you can get your lawyer."

"Okay," replied Brad as he’s placed into handcuffs, adding, "You’ve gotta be kidding."

"Do I look like I’m kidding?" the tough officer responds.

"Well, no you don’t," Brad admits, "but I’ve never done anything wrong in my life."

When he’s placed in the back of the police vehicle and told that Jewel has charged him with 42 counts of excessive noodling on the guitar, Brad realizes the joke is truly on him.

"This is as good as it gets," he tells the camera. "I didn’t think for a second it was a real bust, by the way."

Suuuure Brad, whatever you say!

Kenny Chesney Wins Big at Academy of Country Music Awards

May 19th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

In what has become an annual tradition, country superstar Kenny Chesney took home the Entertainer of the Year title at Sunday night’s 43rd Annual Academy of Country Music Awards ceremony in Las Vegas, marking the fourth year in a row that he’s won the Academy’s top trophy.

The former hubby of Renée Zellweger wasn’t the only country star to have a big night on Sunday. Honky-tonk hunk Brad Paisley did double duty in the winner’s circle, taking home honors for both Best Male Vocalist and for Video of the Year for his song, "Online." Also winning twice last night were the folks of Sugarland, who picked up awards for Single of the Year and Song of the Year for their hit, "Stay."

Continuing her domination of all-things-awards, Carrie Underwood once again claimed victory in the Top Female Vocalist category. During the ceremony, the former American Idol champ joined Best Male Vocalist Paisley onstage to sing "Make the World Go Away," in tribute to country legend Eddy Arnold, who passed away on May 8 at the age of 89.

Stars Line Up at CMT Awards

April 23rd, 2008

Nicole Kidman towers over hubby Keith Urban as they swan into the CMT Awards, which take place at Belmont University in Nashville. Her baby bump is minimal, and she waves as fans shriek. Carrie Underwood makes her way in at 6:41, but hostess-with-the-mostess Miley Cyrus causes the biggest stir when she walks the purple carpet in a print dress at 6:24.

Aside from Paula Abdul, whose teeth are chattering, celebs donning minimal gowns refrain from making their shivers known on this unseasonably cold evening. “Your hands are warm,” the American Idol judge tells me after a handshake.

Whoa! Naomi Judd actually stands in line to talk to me when I am in the midst of speaking with AI’s Bucky Covington. Insanity! I do adore the Judds – and Naomi is brilliant. I smile on the inside when I see Alan Jackson and his wife about to do the same. I mean, it’s Alan Jackson! (“Way down yonder on the Chattahoochee…”)

OMG, Crystal Gayle is here, too. I loved her when I was a little, little, little kid. She had that amazing floor-length-long hair, and still does. “I love OK!” she says. Who is her favorite young artist? “I think LeAnn Rimes is a great vocalist,” she tells me.

Sara Evans struts up with fiancé Jay Baker. She’s a favorite, too. (Remember Born To Fly? Good stuff!) Little Big Town’s Kimberly Roads confesses she’s a lil’ nervous about performing. Jewel adores her “sweet, feminine” dress.

Now Brad Paisley and his wife, and then Faith Hill and Tim McGraw slide through. Here’s LeAnn with hubby Dean Sheremet in tow.

Taylor Swift greets me with “Hey! How are you?” and reveals the inspiration for her song Teardrops on My Guitar. “It’s about a guy named Drew who I went to school with. I wrote it in ninth grade. It was a guy I really liked and he had no idea. But I think he knows now.” Well, probably.

Miranda Lambert tells me boyfriend Blake Shelton helped her pick out her dress, but he didn’t take great care in finding his duds. “Want me to be honest with you?” he says. “I’ve had these jeans on now – I wore them in Toronto, Canada on Friday, I wore them in Michigan on Saturday, I wore them to Bass Pro Shops on Sunday, and I decided I’m on such a roll that they were ready for this CMT Awards show. These are my good old Wrangler blue jeans. They fit better the longer you wear them.”

Meanwhile, Kristian Kane fractured his ankle in three places while filming a movie in Lake Tahoe. “It was hard getting these jeans over this boot, but I sacrificed comfort for style,” he tells me.

AI’s Diana DeGarmo waves hello, and the boys and girl of Lady Antebellum give me a wave and “hey, how you doing?” Maureen “Marcia Brady” McCormick also says “hi.”

Wow, country music has a lot of cute guys. I count Chuck Wicks, Jason Aldean, Jake Owen and Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley Josh’s brother — among them. (There are more, too, but off the top of my head.)

Laura Bell Bundy, who starred in Broadway’s Legally Blonde, has gone country with her album Longing For A Place Already Gone. “I call it y’all-ternative,” she laughs. “I’m very influenced by Loretta Lynn’s albums from long ago and her recent album she did with Jack White. She’s a beautiful songwriter, she’s very honest and real. It’s actually her birthday today.”

I bet she’s excited to meet [her sister] Crystal Gayle, too.
