Brian Williams Takes on Meet the Press

June 20th, 2008

NBC Nightly NewsBrian Williams has been tapped to assume Tim Russert’s moderator chair on Sunday’s Meet the Press; however, NBC has yet to decide on a permanent host to replace the late anchor.

Tim passed away from a heart attack on June 13 at the age of 58.

Brian will welcome Sens. Joe Biden, D-Del., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., on Sunday. The two were scheduled to appear on Meet the Press last week. Last Sunday’s episode, hosted by Tom Brokaw, turned into a special tribute for Tim, who hosted the show for 17 year’s, the show’s longest-serving anchor. The moderator’s chair was left vacant in his honor.

Tim was also NBC’s Washington Bureau Chief, another spot the Peacock needs to fill.

Still coming to terms with their devastating loss, NBC is not yet ready to name permanent replacements for either positions. The network plans to rotate in-and-out different hosts for Meet the Press in the coming weeks.

"Tim is truly irreplaceable, and there’s no single person who can step in and do all this," NBC News President Capus says. "So we have a considerable list of roles that need to be filled. We’re just going to take them one at a time."

Tina, Amy Create ‘Baby Mama’ Drama

May 1st, 2008

Amy Poehler says she’s tired of people asking her if she’s having children at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of her comedy Baby Mama. Who can blame her? Despite answering the same question over and over and over again, the actress married to Will Arnett refuses to go on record and say she doesn’t like children. Why?

Just a few days later she confirms that she and her hubby of four years are indeed expecting a bundle of joy.

Gentle Amy becomes the 1,000th celebrity to rub the belly of my pregnant reporter pal. “Ah! I bet you’re getting a lot of this,” Amy says. (Um, yeah.) “I know it’s harder when you can’t take it off, but you get a lot of people giving you seats on the subway. It’s great.”

Who would Amy pick to be her baby mama?

Dax Shepard because of his instincts,” she says.

Will says, “We’re going to have a baby, yeah,” just as Dax Shepard riffs “We’re going to borrow a baby.” Best part of working with Tina Fey? “Well, oh my God, look who’s here,” Dax says as his gal pal Kristen Bell strides through.

Brian Williams is smacking his gum as Chevy Chase, accompanied by daughter Katie, pitches a show to VH1. “I’d like to see the CBS evening news on VH1,” he says. Christine Lahti says her nickname is “Jolly Green Giant,” and of his moniker, Rider Strong admits “I didn’t realize it was a porn name until I was fifteen.”

Tina runs up to give racing star Danica Patrick a hug. “This is my first time at Tribeca Film Festival,” Danica tells me. “I have a hard time getting out to see movies.”

What brings 30 Rock star Judah Friedlander out tonight?

Tina’s my boss, so I figured I’d better show up,” he tells me.

Lorne Michaels speculates there may be a sequel to Baby Mama. “Tina and Amy are very funny together,” he says.

Flirty Fred Armisen gets my attention. “You’re totally bored,” the SNL star tells me as he’s being interviewed by VH1. “I’m sorry for making fun of you.”

Baby Mama is out now.

Pick up the OK! on newsstands this week for more coverage of the Tribeca Film Festival. “Angelina and Brad’s Wedding of the Year” is the cover line.
