Cameron Mathison Spreads His Wings

January 15th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

Cameron Mathison is a man of many trades. He’s on the hit ABC soap All My Children, has wowed audiences on Dancing with the Stars and recently became part of the Good Morning America family as their new correspondent.

OK! caught up with Mathison where he was eager to talk about another interest and good cause — the 5th Annual ABC/Soapnet for Broadway Cares coming up on March 9.

"It’s an organization that obviously raises money for AIDS and grants to help people with AIDS but it does so by taking advantage of the talent pool of Broadway actors," Mathison, who will be hosting the event, tells OK!. "I think it’s a great opportunity."

The event, also headlined by another DWTS alum, Susan Lucci, will feature performances by an array of actors, including General Hospital’s Tony Geary.

"It’s such a way for people, for the actors to show off their talent," Mathison says. "People I act with day in and day out offered to step down on the stage and transform into these Broadway singers and dancers… It’s astounding to me."

The actor recently joined Good Morning America as a correspondent. He tells OK!, "I’m really excited. I’m now officially part of the Good Morning America correspondent team. Obviously I love my gig on All My Children, but it’ll be kind of nice to focus on just these two, not jumping around killing myself."

Mathison adds,"I love my work as an actor but I think it [GMA] is an incredible show. I love the people I work with and I just step into the building and I learn from everyone there. That’s the ulitmate for me."

OK! Exclusive: Cameron Mathison Responds to Thong Rumors

December 8th, 2008

If you look at a recent clip of soap hunk — and former Dancing With the Stars contestant — Cameron Mathison that’s floating around the web, it looks like the All My Children star revealed a little too much information about himself on-air last week.

In the middle of a dramatic scene on the Dec. 3 episode of the long-running sudser, Cameron stands up and flashes what appears to be the skimpy string of some thong undies!

So to get to the truth of the matter, OK! reached out to Cameron himself, who says he understands where people got the idea he’s thonging it, but alas… it just isn’t so.

"I am finding this hysterical," he told OK! about the furor over his undies. "I gotta be honest, it looks exactly like a thong. But I hate to disappoint, it’s only my t-shirt stuck in my underwear."

Cameron joked to OK! that there might be a profitable upside to the whole misunderstanding: "After the hoopla, I am thinking of starting a new line of thongs."

Stars Turn Out For ‘Sleeping Beauty’ Screening, Afterparty

October 2nd, 2008

Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s three-year-old daughter, Grace, is pulling mom’s arm with all her might during a TV interview held on the red carpet before the Sleeping Beauty 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition screening held at Chelsea Cinemas in NYC.

The cranky tot is anxious to take her seat inside with thousands of young girls dressed up in their favorite Disney princess dresses, and the frustrated mom successfully negotiates with her.

“Is it true that you’re leaving The View?” we shout as Elisabeth moves down a line that includes the fairy tale’s green-faced witch Maleficent posing for pictures with brave kids. Elisabeth keeps moving with her daughter and a friend.

Vanessa Williams and her kids love the spotlight, though. Sasha, 8, tells reporters she’s going to be Catwoman for Halloween.

“Is that what she said?” Vanessa says. “Well, I guess we’ve gotta buy that costume, we’ve gotta get that costume. We have a town parade, so I usually dress up and walk next to her.”

Dancing With The Stars competitor and All My Children star Cameron Mathison also brings his family to the fete. He reveals his favorite Disney character is Mader from the Cars movie, but his son Lucas, 5, thinks he is most like Gaston. “I don’t even ask why,” he laughs. “Maybe I’m more like the Beast.” He says his 2-year-old daughter Leila’s favorite princess is Belle.

Miss Teen USA Stevi Perry
is most like Raven from That’s So Raven.

“I love her,” Stevi says. “I think she has the best personality ever. She’s just so crazy! She seems like she’s really down-to-earth and has the best bubbly personality.”

Time for the screening. Mary Costa, who is the original voice of Sleeping Beauty, introduces in a pink Day-To-Night Barbie-style suit. Lookin’ good!

As soon as we exit, we take a shuttle bus over to The Plaza for the after-princess party. It’s quite an opulent scene. Flashing light fixtures depicting the Three Fairy Godmothers and other characters are sprinkled throughout the ballroom jampacked with kids and their caretakers. As Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers and High School Musical tunes play, Sleeping Beauty and Prince Phillip teach youngsters how to waltz. A magician-type toting a white bunny in an Easter basket offers kids the chance to pet it (so soft!). Men on stilts and jugglers entertain. There’s a craft table, and photo booth with all the characters. Plus, there’s a gold-plate stocked all-you-can-eat buffet of salmon, chicken, potato wedges, salad, macaroni and cheese. For dessert, it’s time for the sundae bar with strawberries, banana chips, fresh coconut, Reese’s Pieces; tiramisu cake and carrot ginger squares. Mmm!

On the way out, guests enjoy gift bags including a gift certificate for the Blu-Ray/DVD of Sleeping Beauty and a commemorative pin set.

What a day!

Sleeping Beauty’s 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition is available on Blu-Ray and DVD October 7.

Cameron Mathison Rooting for Susan Lucci

September 30th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Considering the fact that Cameron Mathison has been a part of the All My Children cast since 1998, who he’s rooting for on this season’s Dancing With the Stars should come as no surprise.

"Susan Lucci," he says when OK! asked who wants to win the reality TV competition  at the Sleeping Beauty 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition Blu-Ray and DVD release this weekend in NYC.

"We worked together on All My Children, and I think she’s an incredible woman," he adds. "She’s an important person in my life, and my friendship with her and her family. I’m behind her all the way."

As for which Disney character he relates to, the family man says his choice is a little hard to admit.

"This is going to be a bit embarrassing, but my son tells me I’m like Gaston," he tells OK!. "I don’t even ask why it is. I think he’s ridiculous, and I hope my wife doesn’t agree that I’m like Gaston, but I’ve always found him really funny and completely out of his mind. I’m a big goofball, so sometimes I’ll go over the top like that."

However it sounds to us like Cameron’s wife would see him as more of a Prince Charming.

"I just wrote a series of gratitude cards and left them for her around the house," he shares with OK!. "Things that I’m grateful to her for. Simple things, but a little bit more personal. It’s saying ‘thank you for all these things, and I feel so many of them.’ I wrote several cards and left them around where she’d find them so she’d know how many ways that I’m grateful."

Stars’ Fourth of July Plans

July 3rd, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

What a difference a year makes!

Last Fourth of July, Charlie Sheen spirited his girlfriend Brooke Mueller off for a week-long Costa Rican getaway that culminated with their engagement.

Now the two are newlyweds and are putting the finishing touches no their Beverly HIlls estate in time for their Fourth of July bash.

"We’re going to have an old-fashioned Bar-B-Q with our family and friends," Charlie tells OK!.

The two aren’t the only ones celebrating the nation’s birthday with their clans. After working straight for half the year already, Carrie Underwood is definitely looking for some down time at home.

"Actually I think that is my vacation time," she tells OK!. "I’m going to be hanging out with my family."

Soap star Cameron Mathison will get his first break in nine weeks too come July 4th. The Dancing with the Stars alum plans on heading up to Upstate New York for a mountainside retreat with his family, wife Vanessa and kids Luke, 5, and Leila, 1.

"We’re going to have a five-day getaway," he tells OK!. "This place is just unbelievable. It’s just this old, huge, estate getaway on a lake. You can canoe, you can hike, there’s a spa, there’s golf, there’s great food, for the kids, they have this whole kids camp facility. The kids go crazy there. There are areas where you can just go sit and look out over the lake. It’s just a beautiful getaway from Manhattan. Just a great spot."

Fellow TV hunk James Denton plans on going away with his wife and kids as well. The Desperate Housewives stud, his wife Erin and their kids, Sheppard, 5, and Malin, 3, will head out to Livingston, Mt., where they will continue their tradition of going to the rodeo.

"They have one of the oldest rodeos in the country, so we always go to the rodeo on the fourth of July," he says. "It’s really become the best memory, even though it’s become tradition. But the kids love it."

And what’s Fourth of July without fireworks?

"We have fireworks on the last night," James says. "It’s like L.A. up there, fireworks are sort of dangerous. The fireworks are very closely contained. It’s a really great four-day even that the kids just love, so that’s our favorite thing."

As much fun as fireworks are, they’re also, well, pretty dangerous — and no one knows that better firsthand than Ashanti. One of the R&B star’s most memorable July 4th celebration was on fire, in more ways than one.

"One of the bushes caught on fire on the side of the house and there were so many people there," she says. "There were kids, there were people in the pool, barbequing, dancing, there was drinks all over. So somebody dumped the cooler on the bush, and the fire got bigger. The fire got huge. All the guys were pouring ice and buckets of water. I forgot how they finally got it out, but they finally got it out. It was hilarious. They had to get the fire trucks to come up to the house. It was very funny."

TLC to cancel game show?

June 23rd, 2008

Will the nicest man in showbiz have to take up a new residency?

Dancing with the Stars alum Cameron Mathison hosts TLC’s Your Place or Mine, the network’s first reality game show where contestants can steal a new room out of their opponent’s home, literally. A new flatscreen would be nice!

The show, which premiered on June 8, brought in low ratings, prompting the network to shuffle it in the lineup from its original Sunday night, 8 p.m. air time to a Saturday TV viewing dead zone. A source close to the show whispers to the TV Fanatic, "It probably won’t be on much longer." Say it ain’t so!

Don’t fret. The TV Fanatic hears that the network loves Cameron (who doesn’t!), and if this project doesn’t work out, they’ll keep trying until they find the perfect fit.

A TLC rep declined to comment on the status of the show.

Daytime Emmy fever!

June 20th, 2008

Tonight is the Super Bowl of daytime as celebs that hit the airwaves before 6 p.m. get praise for their work at the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

The View’s Sherri Shepherd, who is emceeing the night’s festivities with Dancing with the Stars/soap hunk Cameron Mathison, got some advice for giving great show from an awards host vet.

“We’re keeping in mind Whoopi Goldberg’s words of wisdom that this is not about you. The nominees want to know if they won,” Sherri laughs. “I wanted to do a big dance number with Cameron. We’d do a Paso Doble and he’d try to life me in the air.”

The ballroom moves are on lockdown, but Cameron and Sherri will still get a workout at the live broadcast, which is set up Golden Globes-style this year. “Everybody is going to be having dinner and drinks and hanging out there,” Cameron reveals. “I think that atmosphere will suit Sherri and my energies a lot. We’ll be interacting with them and running around to different tables.”

“I guess I’m ditching those 5-inch Stuart Weitzman heels I was going to be wearing,” Sherri jokes.

Soap opera stars aren’t the only ones getting recognition tonight. Judge David Young, who dishes out his own fabulous brand of justice on his courtroom series, is rooting for his show to win an Emmy on its first nomination. While he delivers his TV verdicts without hesitation, David’s letting someone else write his would-be Emmy acceptance speech.

“I’m told my partner, Judge Scott Bernstein, is preparing it, and he’s not told me yet what I’m going to say,” David confesses.

With his boyfriend behind the pen, we pretty much know who David will be thanking first if he wins tonight!

The 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards airs Friday, June 20 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

Cameron Mathison: Cristian’s Injury Can Help Him

April 30th, 2008

If Cristian de la Fuente needs some advice on how to dance through the pain in his remaining weeks on Dancing with the Stars, he can turn to Cameron Mathison.

The All My Children hunk tweaked his hip flexor muscle when rehearsing for his Paso Doble last season, putting his DWTS future in jeopardy.

“I really thought I was going to have to say, ‘OK, I’m out,’” Cameron tells OK!. “And there’s a certain amount of adrenaline [and you want to stay]. I don’t know how serious it is, clearly, but if he can tough through the pain, I think it can help him.”

Cristian tore a bicep tendon during his and Cheryl Burke’s samba on Monday night. He announced on the Tuesday night result show he will delay surgery to repair the injury to stay in the competition. That decision could elicit some sympathy votes for him, Cameron believes.

“I think it just brings a little more awareness to him because there are five people left and everyone’s got their favorites,” he says. “It could single him out a little bit more.”

Still, learning intricate choreography – including two next week – is “very physically demanding” and now obviously the Chilean soap star will be limited in movement.

"But since it’s his shoulder, and not one of his legs, he could just keep it simple, and I’m sure Cheryl will figure out a way to work around his injury. Cheryl is one of the best," Cameron says. "He’s a tough guy, and if he can do it, I think he should do it."
