DVR This: Moonlight & Mistletoe

November 27th, 2008

You know after you stuff yourself with turkey this evening, it’s gonna take all your strength just to reach out to press the keys on the remote control.

So you might want to make sure you’ve already got it tuned to the Hallmark channel for Saturday night. Candace Cameron Bure has a holiday movie!

The Full House alum stars in Moonlight & Mistletoe as Holly, the daughter of a St. Nick, played by Tom Arnold (for real!), who runs a town called Santaville. “It’s Christmas 365 a year there,” Candace tells me.

Holly packed her bag and hit the road as soon as she was old enough to escape the merriest place on earth. “I got tired to playing second fiddle to all the other kids as my dad played Santa and made everyone else happy,” Candace says.

But when St. Nick falls hard on his luck (and in this economy, who hasn’t?), Holly returns home to lend a helping hand.

“In the process our relationship comes together. We make amends and live happily ever after,” Candace shares. “It’s a great Christmas, family movie.”

And a great chance for Candace and Tom to bond. “We talked about everything from spiritual things to hockey and sports, and ultimately Bob Saget, which was kind of our common bond that brought us together,” she laughs. “Tom was a joy to work with and to get to know.”

Even though it’s a light-hearted family film, Cameron does admit there was one scene that broke her down.

“In the movie, my mom who is Nick’s wife has passed away. We have a very touching moment where he brings out this keepsake box that he’s had for ten or 15 years that Holly’s never seen,” she explains.

“I wasn’t expecting to get emotional during the scene since it’s more about my dad, but Tom was so sensitive in it, I was blubbering like an idiot throughout every take.”

Tis the season to be teary!

Moonlight & Mistletoe airs Saturday, Nov. 29 at 9 p.m. on the Hallmark Channel.

Kirk Cameron’s Real Growing Pains

September 20th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Former Growing Pains star Kirk Cameron has done some real life growing recently-he gained 15 pounds to play a fireman for a new movie role.

The sitcom icon, who stars in the Christian-themed film Fireproof, premiering September 26, tells OK! that he had to bulk up to look believable for the part. And he turned to his sister Candace Cameron Bure’s Russian hockey player husband, Valeri Bure, for fitness advice.

"I had to put on 15 pounds of pure muscle to be able to do some of the things that were required, pulling people out of buildings. I did all my own stunts," he tells OK!  And Kirk gives all the credit to the former Full House star’s athlete husband, Valeri.

"He said, ’so, you want me to pump you up.’ He put me on the high protein vitamin supplement shakes [and] I worked out like a crazy man!"

Kirk, 37, who has been married to his former Growing Pains co-star Chelsea Noble for 17 years, isn’t sure if he’ll keep his new buff look. "It depends.  Whatever my wife likes!  I’ll have to ask her."

Candace Cameron Bure Shares Parenting Tips

Jodie Sweetin may have just given birth to her first child, but it’s Candace Cameron Bure who has the Full House. Married to retired hockey player Valeri Bure, the former child star has three kids, Natasha, 9, Lev, 8, and Maksim, 6, and is more than happy to dispense some child-rearing advice to her celluloid sister.

“I could give tons of advice!” Candace tells OK!. “I’m years ahead of her in parenthood! My favorite book that I would recommend for her and her baby, Zoie, is brand new — BabyWise. It helps your child sleep through the night, and helps you put your baby on a schedule. It’s so important. So that’s my first advice to her.”

While the two co-stars have lost touch over the years, Candace says they recently reconnected when she learned of the 26-year-old’s pregnancy and is looking forward to meeting Zoie.

“I just sent her a gift and we’ve e-mailed,” she says. “But I haven’t talked to her and I haven’t seen the baby. I will soon, because we’re going to be in L.A., so I’ll see her when I go out there next month.”

Possibly joining them could be Bob Saget and Dave Coulier, whom the petite blonde talks to “all the time” and is “very close” to. The same can’t be said for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen though. While the cast tries to reunite at least once a year, Candace says the twins are often MIA.

“They are actually the only ones that I don’t keep in touch with,” she says. “Our lives are just so different. There’s a big age difference, too. We’ve kind of taken different paths, so I haven’t talked to them in a few years.”

These days, Candace is working with Six Flags’ A Walk in the Park, a walk-a-thon affiliated with the Children’s Miracle Network. The 32-year-old will serve as a celebrity ambassador for one of the parks in an effort to raise money for children’s cancer research and treatment.

"All the money that’s raised at each location will stay within that community and go to those specific hospitals," she says. "You can go to the website to sign up – like any other walk-a-thon – raise funds, you go, and then the walk is through the whole park will all the roller coasters, and then you can spend the rest of the day enjoying the park."

On screen, the actress can be seen in the flick The Wager, now out on DVD, a "faith-based film" about resisting Hollywood seduction. "I play this temptress tempting a married man," she says.

The project was Candace’s first in six years as she had stepped out of the limelight to focus on motherhood. And yes, her kids are Full House fans.

“I don’t really think that they care that it’s me,” Candace says. “They just really like the show and think that Michelle is really funny. They just like it! They kind of giggle if I ever have a boyfriend and kiss him on the show, ‘Mommy! You’re kissing another boy!’ I tell them, ‘It was before I met your dad, so it doesn’t count!’”

Jodie Sweetin Welcomes a Daughter

April 13th, 2008

Jodie Sweetin’s house just got a little fuller!

The former child star gave birth to a little girl on Saturday, April 12. Zoie is the first child for Jodie and her husband of nine months, Cody Herpin, 30.

Jodie had a due date of April 6, she told Celebrity Baby Blog — which, coincidentally, is the birthday of Full House co-star Candace Cameron Bure — and told OK! last month that she was definitely counting down the days until motherhood.

“The countdown is on!” she said. “I think I’m ready. It’s weird. I don’t think you’re ever fully prepared to be a parent, but I’m excited for sure.”

Now that Zoie has arrived, don’t expect Jodie to give her a sibling anytime soon. The 26-year-old added that she would like to return to work — as soon as she gets back in shape!

“After the baby is born, I definitely want to start getting back into things,” she told OK!. “I want to start working again, but I want to get back into shape first, because it’s kind of hard to work when you’re round.”
