Candy Spelling Defends Herself

May 29th, 2009

After reports circulated with a quote from Candy Spelling suggesting that Tori Spelling’s lack of contact with her dad Aaron Spelling contributed to his passing, she’s not too happy about her words being twisted by headlines.

The original quote from Candy read as follows: "It was sad because that’s what killed my husband actually. He just didn’t want to live after that. You know, he had done everything … he could possibly do for his daughter and she wanted no part of him once he couldn’t do anything for her."

And now Candy wants to clarify, posting on The Huffington Post with her side of the story and what she really meant to say. She’s not letting Tori off easy this time around, either.

"I didn’t intend to create headlines. I was asked a question about my daughter not speaking with my family, and I answered truthfully," she writes. "My husband was very ill, and he had stopped eating and taking liquids. He called Tori on a daily basis, and never stopped asking if Tori had returned his call. We had to say no every day."

Candy Spelling Explains “Final Plea” to Tori

May 4th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

In mid-April, Tori Spelling’s mother, Candy Spelling, made the decision to reach out to her estranged daughter. But rather than send a letter or pick up the phone, Candy chose to post an open letter to Tori on her very own Web site. And in a new interview with Extra, she explains the reasons why she felt the need to take her private family matters public.

"She doesn’t answer my phone calls. She doesn’t answer the emails. She doesn’t answer the texts," says Candy, who has a new book, Stories from Candy-Land. "I was really just making one last plea."

However, when Extra spoke to Tori, she claimed that her mother "has not contacted me. And she’s welcome to contact me. Privately.”

For her part, Candy says it’s not as easy as it may look to an outsider. "It’s not like I can just show up at Tori’s house with a plate of cookies at her door," she says. "I don’t want to discuss things with her on her show, on tape, with a film crew there."

Candy also pleads ignorance as to what even caused the bad blood in the first place. “I really don’t know… There’s no answer because she’s never replied. I have no way of knowing," she reveals. "I’m just so hoping that some day she’ll come around. I certainly would love to make amends with her entire family…To be a grandma to those darling kids and… for her to maybe have my son in her life would be a very nice thing also."

Exclusive: Candy Spelling Says Tori “Plays the Victim”

April 15th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

As Tori Spelling’s new book, Mommywood, which describes her mother Candy Spelling as "disastrous" and calls their relationship "intense and destructive," hits bookstore shelves, an escalating war of words between mother and daughter has begun. To try to make sense of it all, OK! went straight to Candy to hear her side of things.

"It hurts a lot," she says in the new issue of OK! about the allegations made in Mommywood. "She’s always playing the victim, but at 36 years old, I think it’s time not to play the victim anymore."

It appears that one of the biggest issues Candy has with her estranged daughter is that she feels Tori is exploiting her children for her career. "I certainly never took one of my kids and made them objects," she explains. "It’s always like they’ve got them when it’s convenient for the press. They are objects that are being used for her press persona… My kids — although she says differently — had a very normal life."

As for her currently strained relationship with Tori, Candy say, "I hope that it would change. My son has not stopped hoping. My husband [legendary TV producer Aaron Spelling] until the day he died was hoping. We are all there ready to welcome her with open arms. But she has to be willing."

So does Candy think Tori should have any more children? "That would be wonderful," she says, adding with a laugh, "But just set up more trust funds!

"It shouldn’t be all about the money. I know that’s a big thing with her, but that’s not all it’s about."

PICS OF TORI AND HER FAMILY:

Tori Feels “a Bit Clueless” in Family Feud

April 14th, 2009

Can a letter posted on the Internet fall on deaf ears? Maybe blind eyes, as is the case regarding Candy Spelling’s impassioned plea to her daughter Tori Spelling for a family reunion.

Tori admits to Extra that she hasn’t seen the missive, posted on Candy’s site, which reads, “Call me, write me, text me…I want a relationship with you and my grandchildren.”

“I haven’t seen it. I feel a bit clueless," Tori admits today as she unveils her new book, Mommywood. “She has not contacted me. And she’s welcome to contact me. Privately," the mom of two adds of her mother’s wish to resolve their longstanding feud.

Tune in tonight to Extra for more of Tori’s interview.
