R-Patts and Kristen Could Be Dating, Admits Director

June 9th, 2009

At last! Someone finally admits what we all (think we) know: despite their constant denials, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson could be hooking up.

Although the stars and their pals are sticking to the official line that the pair are just friends, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has told E! News that they could indeed be dating.

"I think they have an interesting, wonderful connection, so you know…" Catherine said at the Young Hollywood Awards on June 7.

But she did back off a little, adding: "What does dating mean? I don’t know. I couldn’t say."

"People love to talk, so let them have fun talking," Catherine said.

And as OK! reported in the June 15 issue, Kristen and Rob do seem to have been getting even closer lately.

They were recently spotted "cozying up" over a candlelight dinner at Cecconi’s in West Hollywood, where they "couldn’t keep their eyes off each other."

Third Twilight Film Given Release Date

February 23rd, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

The folks behind the Twilight films are definitely trying to strike while the iron is hot. Work is all set to begin on the second movie, New Moon, based on the smash-hit teen vampire books, and now it’s not only confirmed that they will definitely turn the third title in the series, Eclipse, into a movie, they’ve already given it a release date.

According to <a href="http://www.accesshollywood.com/summit-announces-third-twilight-film_article_14702" target="_blank">Access Hollywood</a>, <a href="http://okmagazine.com/search/pattinson" target="_blank"><strong>Robert Pattinson</strong></a> fans can mark June 30, 2010 in their calendars for the opening of Eclipse.

One thing that’s still not certain is whether New Moon director Chris Weitz, who took over behind the camera after Twilight helmer Catherine Hardwick departed, will shoot the third film. However, it has been confirmed that both scheduled sequels (and presumably the fourth and final film) will have the same screenwriter, Melissa Rosenberg, as the first movie.

Twilight Director Turned Down Big Payday

February 12th, 2009

Despite an offer described by Catherine Hardwicke as "more money than I or anyone in my family has ever seen," the Twilight director says she had to turn down Summit Entertainment when they asked her to direct the sequel, New Moon.

The call came while she was having dinner with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, who play Edward Cullen and Bell Swan in the movie. Catherine says a modest budget and a tight deadline were behind her decision to walk away.

"I was devastated," she tells Entertainment Weekly. "I really did feel a strong connection to the people around the world that liked the movie – and to Stephenie [Meyer] and the actors. But I just didn’t think I could make a good movie under those circumstances."

Chris Weitz will helm the sequel instead, which is currently in pre-production. Twilight fans can still get excited while waiting for New Moon, which premieres in November – the DVD of the first movie hits stores March 21.

Twilight Director to Publish Book

February 4th, 2009

Catherine Hardwicke may not be directing the sequel to Twilight, but rest assured she’s making the most of her time spent on the film.

The director plans to publish a new tell-all book, Twlight: Director’s Notebook, detailing how the blockbuster film was made. Set to come out March 17, the book will feature details about casting, locatin scouting, wardrobe and Hardwicke’s favorite scenes.

Timed to coincide with Twilight’s release to DVD on March 21, the book will also feature behind-the-scenes photos and storyboard sketches, designed to replicate the director’s own personal notebook she kept on set.

Twilight’s sequel, New Moon, will be directed by Chris Weitz, who made 2007’s The Golden Compass.

Meanwhile Stephen King lashed out at Twilight series author Stephenie Meyer on Wednesday, calling her a pale comparison to Harry Potter Author J.K. Rowling. In an interview with USA Today, King said, "Both Rowling and Meyer, they’re speaking directly to young people…The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good."

King continues, "In the case of Stephenie Meyer, it’s very clear that she’s writing to a whole generation of girls and opening up kind of a safe joining of love and sex in those books. It’s exciting and it’s thrilling and it’s not particularly threatening because they’re not overtly sexual. A lot of the physical side of it is conveyed in things like the vampire will touch her forearm or run a hand over skin, and she just flushes all hot and cold. And for girls, that’s a shorthand for all the feelings that they’re not ready to deal with yet."

Peter Facinelli Dishes on Twilight Director Shakeup

December 16th, 2008

At the Z100 Jingle Ball Official H&M Artist Gift Lounge at NYC’s Madison Square Garden on Dec. 12, Twilight’s Peter Facinelli talked to OK! exclusively about the film’s sequel, New Moon, and the studio’s decision to go with a new director this time around.

"You know, I was bummed a little because I love Catherine [Hardwicke], but I always knew she wasn’t signed up for the second and third [movie]," Facinelli, who’s married to 90210’s Jennie Garth and plays Cullen family patriarch, Carlisle, tells OK!. "She never really knew if she was going to do the second one. It wasn’t like she was signed on to do all of them and then it stopped."

Summit Entertainment announced it had hired Golden Compass director Chris Weitz to direct the second installment of author Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling series. It’s not unusual–Each of the Harry Potter films have had a different director. Facinelli says he’s confident the studio knows what it’s doing.

"I would have loved to work with her [Hardwicke] again, I hope I get to work with her again. But I’m more than confident that they’ll pick somebody that will keep that tone. It will be great."

He adds, "I’m just excited we’re doing another movie and hopefully that will lead to a third."

Twilight Sequel Gets American Pie Director

December 15th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

There couldn’t be two more different teen movies than vampire romance Twilight and gross-out sex comedy American Pie — so it seems like an odd choice that the director hired to helm the sequel to the bloodsucking smash is one of the men behind the pie-humping blockbuster.

Director Chris Weitz, who produced and co-directed American Pie with his brother Paul Weitz, has been picked by producers of New Moon, the planned follow-up to Twilight.

This news comes less than a week after it was announced that Catherine Hardwicke, who helmed the film adaptation of the bestselling Stephenie Meyer novel, would not be returning for future entries in the series.

In a message to fans on her web site, Meyer defended the choice of Weitz: “I think he brings a lot to the table, not the least of which for me is that he wrote the screenplay for and directed one of my favorite movies of all time, About a Boy.”

Twilight Switching Directors

December 8th, 2008

Although Twilight stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will be returning in the sequel, New Moon, director Catherine Hardwicke will not be at the helm come shooting time, according to Reuters.

There was apparently a bit of a bumpy relationship between series producer Summit Entertainment and the Thirteen director, who brought the vampire/human love story to the screen in November and earned $139 million in three weeks.

The next movie, set to be released in either late 2009 or early 2010, wasn’t on a schedule that worked with Hardwicke’s required prep time.

In the December issue of Vanity Fair, Kristen Stewart ( who plays Bella Swan) opens up about her hottie leading man Robert Pattinson, revealing she knew immediately that he was the one to play the blood-sucking Edward Cullen.

"Well, I basically cast him," she says. "We did one day of auditions and a bunch of guys came in. Catherine Hardwicke, the director, afterwards was like, ‘What do you think? This is such a hard choice.’ I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?! It’s such an obvious choice!’ It couldn’t have been better. It was sort of perfect."

Stewart says she fit the role of sweet, unassuming Bella because she looks "like everyone. I’m a really typical girl."

Twilight, based on the best-selling book by Stephenie Meyer, chronicles the blossoming love between the mortal teen, Bella Swan, and the gorgeous vampire, Edward Cullen.
