Harper’s Island: Here Comes the Bride!

April 9th, 2009

It’s time for the bride, Trish Wellington, to get her due on Harper’s Island.

But maybe this should have been the wedding that’s called off, since all the guests keep dying!

But it’s worth it, according to Katie Cassidy, who plays the woman of the day.

“Not only did I get fitted for beautiful wedding dresses, but I got to do all the things brides do,” she says.

Katie even got some real-life experience to prep for the role.

“One of my best girlfriends was actually getting married while I was shooting so I got to shadow her in a way,” she says.

“I helped her pick her cake and saw what an overwhelmingly beautiful and emotional experience all of it is.”

Of course, brides are known to lose it as the big day approaches.

Could the stress of planning for the big day, turned this sweet and innocence bride to a manicial killer?

“I wouldn’t quite say she’s a Bridezilla, but you never know,” Katie jokes.

Harper’s Island premieres tonight, Thursday, April 9 at 10 p.m. on CBS.

Harper’s Island: The Groom speaks!

April 8th, 2009

Christopher Gorham must have a thing for the name "Henry."

He played Henry Grubstick, the surprisingly hunky accountant on Ugly Betty who was Betty’s star-crossed lover in seasons past.

Now the Jake 2.0 alum has joined the cast of Harper’s Island as Henry Dunn, the pauper groom set to marry a real-life princess. (That is if he can make it to the altar!)

While the names are the same, Christopher says there are some major differences in the two Henrys.

"Henry Dunn is very much a traditional leading man type of character. He’s smart and mature," Christopher shares.

"He’s a good friend to Abby, whom he’s been close to since they were kids, and he tries to be a good brother to J.D., despite the tension between them."

With strong ties to the island since he was a kid, despite the murderous secrets already lurking in its topsoil, Henry, "cares deeply about Harper’s Island," Christopher explains. "He has a sincerity to him, without being goofy, that was refreshing to play."

Or it could just be refreshing to play a killer, eh Chris?

"Henry is definitely a suspect but, of course, so is everyone else," he teases, adding the cast didn’t know who the culprit was when they first started filming.

"We burned through every theory under the sun trying to figure it out. We were the first audience and we were hooked," he declares.

Hopefully, not literally!

Harper’s Island premieres Thursday, April 9 at 10 p.m. on CBS.

HARPER’S ISLAND: Meet the M-O-H!

April 7th, 2009

I’ve been a M-O-H four times. From experience I can say not killing the bride is an accomplishment.

Of course on Harper’s Island, the new murder mystery serial premiering this week, that doesn’t stop Shea Allen, the matron of honor for her little sister’s nuptials, from being a suspect.

"As the wedding day approaches and Shea begins to lose control of certain situations, she begins to unravel," says her portrayer Gina Holden.

Indeed, the woman who seems to have it all does have some problems. Her husband’s a letch and her pre-teen daughter is channeling Tuesday from The Addams Family!

"When we feel that our family — be it a sibling, spouse or child — are in jeopardy, even the best of us, at times, might do just about anything necessary to protect them," Gina continues.

Even though the M-O-H can be a thankless job, Gina says playing one was a great experience.

"Mysterious things start to happen on the island and her perfect world and need to have the perfect wedding for her sister made it really fun," she says.

"Shea was trying to hold it all together for the sake of her family, but inside she was falling apart."

Let’s hope the rest of her insides stay put!

Harper’s Island premieres Thursday, April 9 at 10 p.m. on CBS.

HARPER’S ISLAND: Meet the cast!

April 6th, 2009

I’ve been a maid of honor four times, so I’ve pretty much sworn off attending another wedding anytime soon.

And my timing couldn’t be more right. On the new series Harper’s Island, these wedding guests are just dying – literally – for the bride and groom to make it to the altar.

Someone is killing off the friends and family who have arrived at a destination wedding in Puget Sound, Wash., and each one of them can also be a suspect, including best man Christopher “Sully” Sullivan.

Despite the little serial killing snafu, Matt Barr, who plays Sully, says if you got to do a wedding, it’s best to be the guy who’s first-in-command.

“The best man gets to have all the fun,” Matt declares.

“The groom has a ball and chain, and Sully still has his freedom so he takes advantage of it.

“Plus don’t forget about the bridesmaids. Need I say more?”

Doesn’t sound like a guy who’s got murder on his mind, but Matt shares why Sully could be the one cutting the guests down, one by one.

“He has nothing to lose and people who have nothing to lose can be very dangerous.”

Gotta toast to that.

Harper’s Island premieres Thursday, April 9 at 10 p.m. on CBS.

The Mean Girls and Taylor Swift

January 30th, 2009

Who would ever want to be mean to sweet country singer Taylor Swift? Well, apparently even big stars have had their brush-ins with "frenemies" straight out of Mean Girls.

"I had a group of friends when I was about 12. [Then] they all just decided they didn’t wanna hang out with me anymore," she tells Katie Couric during CBS’s All-Access Grammy Special, airing Feb. 4.

It got even worse for Taylor: "I would go and sit down at the lunch table with my friends. And they would get up and move their trays to another table. Had [they] kept me in their group, and I had been the most popular girl in middle school, I would never have been inspired to write one song."

Good thing they were so dreadful to her then, because now the 19-year-old is enjoying a huge wave of success, including her newest hit record, Fearless. Bet some of those girls wouldn’t mind eating lunch with her now!

Justin Timberlake Wasn’t Afraid of Madonna

January 28th, 2009

It’s one thing to be a superstar musician with millions of fans, but to make people laugh every time you appear on a show with a full cast of comedians is no easy feat. Unless you’re Justin Timberlake, that is.

Justin sat down with Katie Couric and weighed in on his most recent hit Saturday Night Live skit, in which he plays a dancer in Beyonce’s "Single Ladies" video.

"Put a grown man in a leotard and that’s just already funny," he tells Katie in the interview, airing Feb. 4 at 9 on CBS as part of the news anchor’s All Access Grammy Special. "[After that] we couldn’t go anywhere but up."

Justin has already won six Grammy’s, and is nominated this year for "Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals" for his performance on Madonna’s hit "4 Minutes featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland."

Of his burly co-collaborator, Justin says they share "a musical kinship."

"We have a crazy chemistry in the studio. [We're] like two painters. Somebody slaps a color on a canvas and the other one starts working with it," he says.

Even though he’s a big star in his own right, working with Madonna must have been scary, right? JT says he was humbled to be working with the queen of pop, but that "she’s short, so I wasn’t afraid at all."

Laurence Fishburne Joins Cast of CSI

August 18th, 2008

Calling all CSI: Crime Scene Investigation fans! Oscar nominee Laurence Fishburne is headed to a small screen near you. Starting in the ninth episode of this season, Laurence will play a former pathologist now teaching college criminalistics. After a murder investigation, his character will become involved with the CSI team and ultimately joins them in the Las Vegas Crime Lab.

"CBS asked us, ‘Who’s at the top of your dream list?’ say CSI executive producers Carol Mendelsohn and Naren Shankar.  "Without hesitation, we said Laurence Fishburne. He is a powerful and intense actor, with an incredible range."

Keep an eye out for Laurence this season, Thursday nights at 9 on CBS.

Neil Patrick Harris Takes a Stab at Britney

April 10th, 2008

Britney Spears may have wowed fans with her cameo on CBS’ How I Met Your Mother, but she apparently still has something to prove to a few of the show’s cast members.

"I’m in the minority that feels our show does not need stunt casting in order to succeed," HIMYM star Neil Patrick Harris declared during a break from taping the sitcom. "I worry that if they start Will and Grace-ing us too much, that the show will suffer. We’re all really proud of the content of the show."

Britney has been the most high-profile guest star to visit the set, following past appearances by Mandy Moore, Enrique Iglesias and Heidi Klum. Spears’ cameo as a bubbly, sweet receptionist created so much buzz that 10.6 million viewers tuned in to watch the March 24 episode — that’s roughly two million more than the sitcom averages per showing. Among the 18- to 49-year-old demographic, it was the most-watched episode of the series ever.

HIMYM executive producer Carter Bays told the AP he’s proud of the result. "We had no illusions about what the stakes were," he said. "And if it was classic stunt casting like, ‘Oh, my tour bus broke down outside’ and I just go, ‘Wow, Britney Spears! What are you doing here?’ then, like, we’re just flying over that shark real fast."

Bays adds, "It was a great character and I think she played it well… I’m glad that we didn’t sensationalize the character in any way."

Last Monday, the show introduced a "mystery woman" who warns women not to date the single-minded Barney, played by Neil Patrick Harris. When asked who he thinks the network may cast to play the woman, Harris replied, "No telling, but based on the stunt casting we’ve done in the past, I’m guessing Tara Reid."

All righty-then!
