Brad and Angie Need a Break!

January 29th, 2009

One might think there are few things more exciting than being nominated for an Oscar.  In the case of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, however, parenthood takes precedence over any celebrating that might be going on in their busy home full of six kids.

"Man, we’re too busy dealing with Kleenexes and diapers and getting everyone fed to really celebrate. We’ll do that next year," Brad told Reuters at the Japan premiere of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in Tokyo today.

"It is nice, we go and support each other – very cool and rare I think," he revealed.

Recently, OK! reported on Angelina Jolie’s struggle to fight back tears as she discussed her late mother, Marcheline Bertrand, during a London press conference for her film, Changeling.

And in the current issue of OK!, we look into ways the Oscar-winning mother of six young children is finally coming to terms with the loss of her mother, who passed away in Jan. 2007 after a prolonged battle with cancer.

“She has to keep it together for the sake of her kids, but she is only human and falls apart from time to time,” a longtime friend of Angelina tells OK!. “She is still a mess over Marcheline’s departure, believing no one understands her the way her mother did. They had a very strong bond that she feels she will never have with another person.”

Throughout her grief, Angelina has been able to rely on her family. Her partner Brad Pitt has especially helped her get through the dark times. “Brad has been her rock, and he will always be there for her,” the friend tells OK!. “Without his love, she would never have been able to cope.”

Angelina also has drawn strength from her children, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and 4-month-old twins Knox and Vivienne, whose middle name honors Marcheline.

“Mad tries to cheer her up and makes her laugh and smile,” reveals her friend. “She feels like she is the most privileged woman to have such an incredible family and has said her mother is a guardian angel over her household.”

Angelina Pays Tribute to Her Mother

November 18th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Angelina Jolie might be a mother of six, but she’s also a daughter who lost her own mother, Marcheline Bertrand, to cancer in 2007.

The Changeling star was recently close to tears after telling London journalists about her beloved mom, who had "that elegance and strength for knowing what was right."

Scroll down for video of the press conference.

"Her name was Marcheline but we used to call her Marshmallow, as a joke, because she was just the softest, most gentle woman in the world," Angie told reporters at a press conference, adding that the character of Christine Collins, who loses her son in the movie was very much like her mother.

"She was really sweet and was never angry – she couldn’t swear to save her life," the busy mom revealed.  "But when it came to her kids, she was really fierce and so this is very much her story."

Angie, who brought her four-month-old twins Vivienne and Knox, with partner Brad Pitt, to London, also said she was looking forward to a "big family Christmas" with her growing brood – and that the busy parents would be expanding their family even more.

Angie: “I Don’t Plan to Keep Acting”

November 13th, 2008

Angelina Jolie has officially achieved nesting status. In a new interview with BBC News, the Oscar winner reveals her desire to quit acting and focus more on her children with partner Brad Pitt.

"I don’t plan to keep acting very long," she says. "I’m ready to do a few things now, and fade away and get ready to be a grandma one day. I’ve had a time to tell stories, and be successful enough to tell the ones I want to tell, but everything comes in seasons, and I hopefully won’t be needing to do that in later life in any way."

The actress, 32, who stars in Clint Eastwood’s new film Changeling, says she plans to work again for a few months in Feb. but then probably won’t do anything again for another year.

"I like being home a lot these days," she reveals. "My core is my family. First and foremost I have a lot of children and a big responsibility to make sure they’re growing right and that they’ve got us there for them."

That "us" refers to Angelina and her partner Brad Pitt. Jolie says she plans to continue using her celebrity to shed awareness on global issues close to her heart–something she and Pitt share.

"Last night Brad and I were walking down the line with all the cameras and it’s been 5 or 6 months since we’ve had to do that…and we were both just whispering [to each other], ‘We’ll be home soon, we’ll be home soon!’ We can have a genuinely good time going out together and it’s fun to dress up and be adults, but it’s nice to know it’s not our life."

And as for the critics who lashed out at the couple for selling pictures of their children, Angelina says it was about taking back control.

"We’re either going to have people breaking into our property, which we’ve had, or breaking into the hospital, which we’ve had…and getting in our children’s faces or drilling a hole through the ceiling of our hospital room–something ridiculous and horrible–either we’re going to have these type of people make that kind of money off our children, or we’re going to say that there’s something really wrong with that and what can we do about it?" she explains.

Jolie continues, "We find something that we can make positive and do something where it, in turn, does some good and makes us feel o.k. about it all. So it’s really a response to this other thing that we have to counter."
