Christian Bale “Had it Coming”
May 7th, 2009
If you knew Christian Bale like Christian Bale knows himself, his recorded tirade at a crew member on the set of Terminator: Salvation, might not have come as such a shock.
“I’ve never been laid back and cool at all," the Dark Knight star told Esquire UK in their June issue. "I always expend a lot of energy and get very hot over things."
However the actor, 34, isn’t trying to distance himself from the incident, which caused quite a stir among fans looking forward to the next Terminator movie.
"It’s not excusable what I did. I went way overboard. A lot of it was to do with the scene we were doing and stupid as it may sound to a lot of people, my character was going through a great deal in that particular scene," he e xplains. "The person on the receiving end is a grown man. Believe me, he really wasn’t fazed by it.”
His self-professed hot demeanor combined with the intensity of the scene might have been part of the problem, but Christian takes full responsibility for his actions, which included swearing at the crew member.
"Like I said, I had it coming. It should never have been recorded. It was recorded for jollies. But I’m not trying to cover up," he says. "So there’s not embarrassment in that I wanted to keep it hidden. I’d done it in front of a whole lot of people. I take full responsibility for it. I’ve never said anything different. I’m not blaming it on anything. I took it a bit too far.”
Something he isn’t as willing to talk about is his friend and co-star in Dark Knight, the late Heath Ledger. Christian admits he didn’t watch or read any of the coverage of his death last January.
"I paid no attention to it. I knew him, I knew the family and why the hell would I sit there listening to idiots who don’t know anything at all? I literally didn’t read anything, didn’t watch anything [after he died]. If I happened to be watching anything that came on, I switched over straightaway."
He will talk about his skill and his personality on set, revealing that he enjoyed his company on and off the set, not a common thing for him within the industry.
“Many times I’ll work with actors and I can tell they’re thinking, “What are you doing? Why are you going that far with it?” or “You’re nuts!” With Heath, I could feel him going, “I love it!” It felt like we were really pushing each other on, to the limits of where you can go with it," he says. "He was a good guy. There’s not a lot of actors who I stay in touch with. But Heath was one of them."
Will Arnold Be Back in Terminator?
April 23rd, 2009 / Author: Chris Morran
When he said those famous words, "I’ll be back," he must have meant it: California’s Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said in a Webcast interview that he might show up in the new Terminator: Salvation.
Don’t get your hopes up that he’ll be muscling his way through bad guys with Christian Bale next month, however – the Governator will only appear as an image in the film, as filmmakers are using technology to insert his likeness from his other Terminator films.
He’s also told director McG that he’ll lend his support to the movies by showing up with its stars at the premiere.
Batman Sequel in Jeopardy?
February 10th, 2009
Immediately following the blockbuster release of The Dark Knight, the movie-biz rumor mill went into overdrive with sequel chatter — everything from leaked fake scripts to bizarre casting rumors.
But one thing that had never been in doubt was whether or not there would be a follow-up to the hit film. That is, until the recent release of an audio recording featuring Batman himself, Christian Bale going off on an f-bomb filled rant at a crew member on the set of his upcoming film, Terminator Salvation.
Since then, many have questioned whether or not Christian — already well-known in Hollywood for his brooding temperament — would be able to overcome the negative stigma of the headline-making tape.
And while it seems far-fetched that Warner Bros. would dump a cash cow like the Batman franchise over something like this — after all, Alec Baldwin has managed to outlast the furor over the nasty voicemail he left for his teen daughter a few years back — a producer on the film only helped to stir the gossip pot when he spoke to OK!.
When asked if Christian would be returning for the next film in the superhero series, producer Charles Roven told OK!, "You’re making an assumption there. We don’t know if we’re going to have another Batman movie. We’re waiting to see what Chris Nolan comes up with."
Meanwhile, Roven, who was also a producer on Bale and Nolan’s first Batman flick, Batman Begins, defended his tempestuous star. "I’ve had only a great experience with Christian. I loved working with him," he told OK!. "You can’t have higher things to say about him. One of the great things about Christian is I’ve never been on the set when he’s ever missed a line – a word."

Michael Cera Has a “Meltdown”
February 9th, 2009
Christian Bale probably didn’t mean to inspire other actors by way of his angry rant on the set of Terminator: Salvation, but it seems a few jokesters have taken his lead and run with it.
It doesn’t always have to be scary when celebrities "Bale Out" on set; sometimes it ends up being pretty hilarious – especially when Michael Cera is involved.
While we’re pretty sure this recent video of the Juno star having a diva moment on the set of his newest movie, Youth in Revolt, is just another way to make his fans laugh, Michael is pretty convincing as an angry, sensitive actor.

OK!’s Top Celebrity Meltdowns
February 6th, 2009
Now that Christian Bale has apologized for his on-set screaming frenzy, we thought we’d revisit some of the all-time great celebrity meltdowns that have been recorded for posterity.
And some of these contain some very explicit language — so don’t say you weren’t warned!
Seinfeld Scorned By Larry King
This isn’t the most explosive outburst. But it’s made our list because it’s quite shocking to see that charming Jerry Seinfeld who we all grew to know and love getting all snippy with Larry King because he fails to fully realize how massively important Seinfeld was.
It also deserves a mention because, in this 2007 interview, the comic actually utters the legendary motto of all narked stars: "Do you know who I am?"
Chris Martin gives the BBC the ‘Cold’ shoulder
Far from being flattered that someone was treating his music as if it were high art, Coldplay’s Chris Martin inexplicably storms out of this 2008 interview, accusing the terribly proper English reporter of behaving like a common hack.
Alec Baldwin shows some less-than-tip-top parenting skills
This 2007 answer machine message from 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin would be pretty distressing — even if it weren’t being left on the cell phone of his 11-year-old daughter, who hadn’t turned it on for a pre-arranged call from her dad.
But at least they’re pals again now.
O’Reilly Gets Riled Up
Right-wing pundit Bill O’Reilly usually lets his anger out as righteous indignation. But on this vintage clip he just has a good old (and very swear-y) hissy fit.
Andy Kaufman and Jerry Lawler Come To Blows
Now from the anger archives, here’s a TV confrontation that spilled over into violence. In 1982, pro wrestler Jerry Lawler had enough of comic Andy Kaufman’s lip on Letterman, and gave him a good smack in the chops to show it.
No one screws with Cruise!
Tom Cruise has become something of a master of the onscreen meltdown. We all know the Oprah ‘incident’, and the Matt Lauer row. But here’s a lesser know gem, this time with Tom going off on a British prankster in 2005.
When directors attack
Compared to the way director David O. Russell speaks to actress Lily Tomlin in this leaked tape, Christian Bale sounds like he was just giving out some friendly advice. These too went at it on the set of I Heart Huckabees in 2004.
Akon throws child
As Akon well knows, nothing expresses your displeasure like throwing a teenager. This clip from 2007 earned him the nickname Akoncussion in some circles.
The Bale-out
And finally, the foul-mouthed freak-out that has coined the term the "Bale-out".

Christian Bale Apologizes For Tirade
February 6th, 2009
Just a few days after an expletive-filled, raging rant was leaked online of Christian Bale cursing out a crewmember on the set of Terminator: Salvation, the actor has offered up his apology by way of calling into a radio show.
Batman himself dialed in to KROQ L.A. this morning to try and make amends for his ballistic tirade against a director of photography who had walked into his shot for the second time, causing Christian to lose his cool.
The guys on the Kevin & Bean show had been ribbing Christian about his rant all week on air and making jokes, but instead of being mad, the actor said the jokes made him laugh.
"It’s been a miserable week for me, and you guys, I was driving in the car, and I think it was you guys I was listening to, and you made me laugh in the midst of all this craziness," he tells the hosts.
"The thing I really want to stress is I have no confusion whatsoever, I was out of order beyond belief," Christian starts. "I was way out of order, I acted like a punk, I regret that, and there is nobody that has heard that tape that was hit harder by it than me. I make no excuses for it, it was inexcuable. I hope that that is absolutely clear."
Christian goes on to admit that he’s not comfortable yet with being a movie star, and sees himself as an actor.
"The thing that disturbs me so much is that I’ve heard a lot of people saying I seem to think I’m better than anybody else, and nothing could be farther from the truth," he reveals. "I am a lucky – I don’t want to swear – I am a lucky S.O.B. to do what I do, I never forget that, and that is why I put so much into what I do and why I care so much about it and why sometimes that enthusiasm just goes awry.
"If anybody ever sees that I really am thinking I am better than anybody else, stick a fork in my backside, turn me over, and I will be done," he added. "That is not me."
Christian goes on to reveal that he was trying to get a little of that "in-the-blood craziness" into the John Connor character that day, as John’s mother, Sarah Connor, was in an insane asylum in the story. "Why? Because she’s crazy," joked Christian. However, that craziness got a little out of hand.
"I got annoyed… and I made it ugly. I took it way too far, and I completely mixed up fact and fiction. I’m half John Connor, I’m half Christian there, and we all saw [what happened]."
Christian goes on to explain that he and the director of photography, Shane Hurlbut, have completely resolved everything between them, and in fact, continued working together that day and for a month afterward. He also wants to make sure fans will still go out to see the movie, as everyone worked so hard on the film.
"Please, I am asking people, do not allow my onetime lapse in judgment, my incredibly embarrassing meltdown, to overshadow this movie."
