Following the revelation Wednesday afternoon that Billy Joel and his wife Katie Lee Joel had decided to end their marriage, the music legend’s ex-wife, supermodel Christie Brinkley and his daughter Alexa Ray Joel, are talking about the sad news.
“He was the first person that told me," Alexa told OK! on Wednesday night at the sixth annual Wayuu Taya Foundation Gala sponsored by Double Cross Vodka. "Being who he is, he can’t just trust everybody and you know, I like knowing that my dad can talk to me in the same way that I come to him… I’m just supporting him right now.
Alexa also admits she wasn’t surprised when her father told her the news. "I have a pretty good women’s intuition so I could tell," she explained. "I know my dad very well. So I’m behind him, you know."
So with her parents’ marriage — as well as both her mother and father’s subsequent marriages — having ended in divorce, is Alexa turned off by the idea of saying "I do"?
“I’m a real woman. I would love to get married," she told OK!. "I don’t necessarily think you need to get the government involved in order to celebrate your love. You can have a wedding, and have it be big and fabulous and not necessarily complicate it with the papers and all that. In what I’ve seen — sure I have a different perspective on marriage and all of that. But I’m a true romantic and I will be having a wedding,[laughs] At one point, not now!"
Meanwhile, Alexa’s mom Christie tells Extra, “I’m very sad that this has happened and I wish them both happiness… he’s a wonderful father to Alexa. We’ve remained friends. We’ve been friends for many, many years, so obviously I’m very sad that this has happened and I wish them both happiness."

After a nasty divorce trial, it’s no wonder Christie Brinkley isn’t the biggest fan of tying the knot anytime soon… if ever.
"I would never get married again," she tells Ladies Home Journal in their July issue. "With what I know I don’t see why anyone would get married."
But far from feeling sorry for herself about her split from Peter Cook, Christie is making amends to everyone else!
"I feel like I should apologize to everybody for them having to read all that tawdry stuff, and having it delivered to their kitchen tables when their kids are around," she admits.
Her marital troubles haven’t put her off love entirely, but she does have a somewhat practical approach to romance.
"I totally believe in true love. And I think couples should celebrate their love over and over again," she says, adding, "In fact, right at the beginning of a relationship, I would formalize an exit strategy."
So will Christie be looking for love again anytime soon? Not until she’s totally ready.
"I haven’t always followed my own advice, but I’ve always believed that you’ve got to be whole before starting with someone new," she explains. "You’ve got to find that inner peace. I’d have to feel, ‘Okay, the time is right to be open to that again."

If there’s anyone who can still look sexy wearing a milk mustache, it’s Christie Brinkley.
The former Sports Illustrated supermodel is helping launch a new campaign to reintroduce Americans to Milk as Nature’s wellness drink. She’s also helping make history — Brinkley was one of the first celebrities to don the white upper lip, proudly wearing a milk mustache in 1995 when the iconic campaign first premiered.
This time around, Brinkley is helping launch the "Drink Well. Live Well" initiative for the national Milk Mustache "Got Milk" Campaign at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
"I’ve been drinking milk all of my life and I think it’s a vital part of living well," said Brinkley. "As a busy mom constantly on the move, I may not always have an extra hour to hit the gym, but I always have time to grab a glass of milk. It’s one of the simplest things you can do every day and feel good about, for you and your family."

Christie Brinkley and her ex Peter Cook have been pretty quiet lately–but no more.
Extra is reporting that the former Sports Illustrated model and her ex are at it again, this time regarding contempt of court charges that Cook has filed against Brinkley.
Cook alleges that Christie didn’t turn over their son’s passport in a timely fashion for a trip. Brinkley’s attorney’s reaction? "Peter Cook somehow believes that the only way he can repair his image is to use the court and the media to make scurrilous claims about Christie Brinkley," he said. "His latest filing is unfounded, unwarranted and petty."
The hits keep on coming from Peter Cook, it seems. Less than a week after his highly controversial interview with Barbara Walters on 20/20, Christie Brinkley’s ex-husband is now embroiled in a new scandal – the alleged existence of a sex tape featuring a romp between him and mistress Diana Bianchi.
However, Diana’s lawyers are now hitting back at the steamy video rumors.
In an statement obtained by Extra, Diana’s attorney, Rosemarie Arnold responds to the reports of the tape saying, "Whatever tape is out there it was recorded surreptitiously without her consent. My partner Joe Tacopina and I are reviewing Diana’s legal options. Mr. Cook can sit with Barbara Walters and claim to be a lamb but he is still a wolf.”
Peter and Christie’s divorce just became final, after months of legal wrangling and a bitter back and forth custody battle. Peter has admitted to spending thousands of dollars a month on Internet porn, as well as cheating on Christie with Diana, who was 18 at the time.
Following the airing on Friday of the much-hyped 20/20 interview with Christie Brinkley’s ex-husband Peter Cook, the former model — who attempted to file a restraining order earlier this week that would have forbidden him from allowing their children to watch the show — has released a statement about the entire sordid situation.
Through her lawyer Robert Stephan Cohen, here is Brinkley’s complete statement:
"Christie Brinkley initially sought to settle this matter privately. The state of NY is an open court system. It was Mr. Cook who sought to lock the courtroom to the media. Judge Cohen applied the law and Peter’s request to bar the media was denied. This was not Ms. Brinkely’s doing, it was the law.
"Mr. Cook has chosen to breach the confidentiality agreement in the divorce settlement, a provision agreed upon in court to protect the children and allow them to put this ordeal behind them.
"This is a tragedy. Mr. Cook has proven once again that the court appointed psychiatrist Dr. Stephen Herman was right when he testified that Peter Cook has an insatiable ego and needs constant reassurance. Mr. Cook continues to put himself first, ultimately hurting the children.
"The court awarded Ms. Brinkley full custody of the children and all decision making concerning them. That decision speaks for itself.
Ms. Brinkley plans to explore her legal options."
