Nicole Gets Wet on Chuck

July 21st, 2008

Nicole Richie’s big action scene on Chuck is going to be a wet one!

The socialite, who "kicked ass" during her stint on the NBC show, will battle secretive operative Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) in a shower, creator and producer Josh Schwartz reveals.

"The premise of the episode is Sarah has to go back to her high school reunion where she was not so popular and not nearly as beautiful," he tells OK! at a TCA conference.

But the reunion is not all fun and games. Sarah and Chuck (Zachary Levi) are there on a mission — tailing Nicole’s character, a mean girl who "tortured" Sarah back in the day.

"While there, things go awry," Josh teases. "The old high school shower becomes the location of a seriously wet showdown."

Nicole won’t be the only familiar face in the episode — Boy Meets World’s Ben Savage also appears as Nicole’s husband.

And the gushing won’t stop for Nicole’s performance.

"Nicole came guns blazing," Zach tells OK!. "She was ready, she was prepared, and she had a good time."

Zachary Levi Has Andy Dick’s Back

July 21st, 2008

Zachary Levi’s former co-star Andy Dick may be less than perfect—but the Chuck star is staunchly defending him after Andy’s recent arrest.

The two starred together on the sitcom Less Than Perfect, and though the comedy ended two years ago, Zach’s fondness and opinion of Andy hasn’t, especially in light of his drug and sexual battery charges.

“I love Andy," the actor tells OK!. "I think that there are people that you meet in your life that when you get to know them, in your heart, you have a certain compassion for and you understand the things that they’ve gone through in their life and that must be incredibly difficult.”

Last week, the comedian was charged with felony possession of narcotics, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and misdemeanor sexual battery after allegedly lifting a 17-year-old girl’s top outside of a bar. Despite the indiscretions, Zach knows his friend is better than that.

"Sometimes, unfortunately, the things that they go through to cope with that don’t bring out the best in the personality that you know is in them and the character that is in them, so it’s unfortunate in that respect," he says.

The real Andy, according to Zach is a "comic genius," who "loves his t hree kids" and his colleagues.

"Unfortunately, in Hollywood, you get a lot of sycophants who see someone who is almost too open and too giving and too vulnerable and they leech onto that and I feel like Andy has had a lot of those people in his life and they don’t help him," the 27-year-old says. "They continue to keep him in a place that’s not healthy."

Nicole Richie “Kicked Ass” on Chuck

July 17th, 2008

Maybe Nicole Richie should give up acting and take up stunt work.

The socialite recently filmed a guest spot on NBC’s spy dramedy Chuck and has earned rave reviews form her co-stars for her balls-out performance.

“I wasn’t shooting with her because she was doing all the action stuff, but everyone said she did a great job. She’s really committed to it,” Ryan McPartlin tells OK! at the ESPY Awards.

The actor conceded he was wary of Nicole’s commitment as acting isn’t her claim to fame, but the 26-year-old erased all of his concerns.

“She came in and did all of her own stunts and just kicked ass from what I hear,” he says.

Nicole isn’t the only major star the series snagged for its second season. John Larroquette stops by, as does former New York Giant defensive end Michael Strahan. While Nicole was able to hold her own, Michael had a little more trouble adapting to the TV set life.

“There’s a lot of aspects that are similar as far as schedules and the team aspects are concerned [between football and acting],” Ryan says, “but as far as performing and being comfortable, you don’t have as many pads to hide under.”

Nicole Richie to Guest Star on ‘Chuck’

June 25th, 2008

NBC’s returning drama Chuck will get a new cast member this fall, when Nicole Richie joins the cast for one episode as Special Agent Sarah Walker’s high school nemisis.

Richie will guest star as the snarky and spiteful girl who tortured Sarah in school. Now Sarah must face her fears when she’s forced to attend her 10-year high school reunion.

"Nicole auditioned for the part and was very funny," said executive producer Josh Schwartz. "This role is a great opportunity for her to show off her comedic skills and be diabolically evil and kick some butt. It’s going to be really fun."

This will be Richie’s first guest role since giving birth to her daughter Harlow. In addition to co-starring with Paris Hilton on The Simple Life, the new mom has appeared on shows such as 8 Simple Rules and American Dreams.

Richie also plans to launch her own jewelry line this fall, called House of Harlow 1960.

Christina Applegate Nixes Zach Levi Romance Rumors

February 4th, 2008 / Author: cwillett

It was reported last week that Samantha Who? star Christina Applegate and Zachary Levi, star of the new NBC hit Chuck, were indulging in some prime-time PDA at a Los Angeles club, setting the Internet ablaze with rumors that the pair were dating. However, Christina tells OK!, it’s not exactly time to start coming up with a cute name for the twosome just yet.

"We don’t even know each other," the actress confessed to OK! on the red carpet of Saturday’s Producers Guild Awards in Beverly Hills. "So that story was just a big rumor. I met him once for 10 minutes so I don’t even know where it came from."

As for her Valentine’s Day plans, Christina tells OK! she’ll just be at home by the fireplace.

OK! Interview: Ryan McPartlin

January 24th, 2008

There’s a new superhero of sorts — and he is awesome.

Captain Awesome, that is.

He doesn’t have telepathy or any other power, but what Captain Awesome lacks in superhuman abilities, he makes up for in invaluable awesomeness, lovable goofiness, SoCal mellowness and Matthew McConaughey shirtlessness.

“It’s become a running joke now. I’m never going to be able to eat again! Come on!” Ryan McPartlin, Captain’s portrayer on NBC’s Chuck, tells OK! of his character’s shirt-phobia.

That may just be one sacrifice he’s going to have to make to keep playing this fan favorite. Captain Awesome (given name: Devon), nicknamed as such “because everything he does is awesome,” is the boyfriend of Chuck’s (Zachary Levi) live-in sister Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) and is the jock to Chuck’s geek.

But the labels stop there. At first glance, Awesome could easily come off as your typical, mean-spirited frat boy who taunts and teases others, but he is actually quite the opposite — a friendly, supportive “big brother,” thanks to Ryan’s blend of silly sweetness.

“Some people actually mistake him as the dumb jock type but he’s not,” the 32-year-old says, who adds that he was wary of not portraying the Captain in that light. “He’s a doctor, he’s nice and, actually, I have a friend who has two masters degrees, and who runs triathlons, he just finished a marathon, and he’s one of the smartest, fittest guys I know, but he’s kind of preoccupied with what’s going on in his world and not always in touch with how the world operates for other people. So he’s a conundrum of a whole number of things.”

The Captain, who is sometimes just in one or two brief scenes per episode, is definitely a paradox, but there’s something about him that makes him inexplicably irresistible and always leaves viewers yearning for more. A sign of someone making maximum impact with minimal screen time, three weeks into the series, “Captain Awesome” T-shirts were available for purchase online. Ryan, who says he had no clue such a small character would become so huge, can only appreciate the cult iconic status he’s achieved — not just in public, but his personal life as well.

“I don’t even think people on the set know my name as Ryan,” he laughs. “They’re like, ‘Awesome, Cap, get over here.’ So it kind of stuck and buddies even call me that in Chicago. They’re like, ‘Hey Captain, what’s up, man?” So as an actor that’s like the best thing that you can hope for, a name that’s that fun and popular.”

Growing up, Ryan admits he received no such fanfare, saying he was more like Chuck than Awesome — that is until he got to college at the University of Illinois, where he played football. “Things started to come a little easier for me and so I think I graduated into the Captain Awesome stage.”

That doesn’t mean he looks back on his Chuck years with disdain. “I needed the Chuck phase to appreciate the Captain awesome phase because otherwise I don’t think I would have realized the flip side of that coin. I think I needed to see the world through Chuck’s eyes before becoming Captain Awesome.”

Captain Awesome was originally written as a small part but was expanded once Ryan, who honed his comedic chops on the over-the-top soap Passions, came into the picture. Still, the Captain appears in small dosage because “you always leave them wanting more.”

Ryan promises more gradual insight into Awesome’s background and his relationship with Ellie, but with the protracted writer’s strike, time with the Captain may be running out. Thirteen episodes will be shot, and after that, “we’re just keeping our fingers crossed.” At the same time, Ryan understands the dilemma. After all, there wouldn’t be a Captain Awesome without the writers.

“We’re really pulling for the writers. Our show is nothing without the writers. There are no shows without the writers and I think as actors we really appreciate that position,” he says. “They are underappreciated and they do need to get some recognition here.”

And when they do, Ryan can get back to the gym to maintain Captain’s buff bod. These days, the hunk can usually be found breaking a sweat or spending time with his family — he and wife of five years, Danielle Kirlin, have a son, Wyatt, 1, who has “put everything into perspective” for his dad.

“[Fatherhood] is the best thing in the world,” Ryan says. “It’s funny because the pressure mounted in regard to being an actor and getting jobs at first and then it went away because I realized that it’s not that big of a deal and everything takes care of itself and now I’m just very aware of what I do and very aware of what I say and what kind of lessons I’m going to be teaching him.”

Might that include his trademark claim to fame? While the Captain is awesome at everything he does, Ryan says he’s only good at the Cornhole, a tailgating, beanbag tossing game.

“I’m a mean beanbag tosser,” he says, but he stops short at saying he’s awesome.

“Awesome does everything to the extreme and wants to master it. I’m like a jack-of-all-trades but a master of none.”
