Carrie Underwood & Brad Paisley to Host CMAs

October 2nd, 2008

Not only will country music fans be treated to performances by the reigning Male and Female Vocalists of the Year, Brad Paisely and Carrie Underwood at the Country Music Awards, the duo will also host "Country’s Biggest Night."

And both artists seem pumped up about their hosting duties, a first for both of them.

"I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to host the Awards show," says Brad, who is nominated for four awards this year.  "We’re going to have a good time – start to finish."

"I am so excited to host a show I grew up watching, and am so thrilled to spend this night with the fans and Brad," adds Carrie, nominated for two awards. "It’s going to be a party!"

The two artists toured together in 2006 and became good friends, reuniting last year to record the duet "Oh Love" for Brad’s album, 5th Gear.

Previously announced performers will include include Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Miranda Lambert, George Strait, Sugarland, Taylor Swift and Keith Urban, with more performers to be announced soon.

May 19th, 2008

Fresh off her second consecutive win as Top Female Vocalist at the Academy of Country Music Awards, Carrie Underwood will return to the American Idol stage on Wednesday night to perform on the season 7 show finale.

The former Idol winner will sing her smash hit "Last Name." Underwood is currently headlining her Carnival Ride tour with special guest Josh Turner. Her debut album, Some Hearts, was recently certified 7x-Platinum, becoming the best-selling solo female country debut in RIAA history. Some Hearts has also surpassed all other releases as the all-time U.S. top-selling album by any American Idol contestant.

Martina McBride’s Low Key Style

November 10th, 2007

Country music superstar Martina McBride doesn’t let awards shows get to her. The four-time Country Music Award female vocalist of the year winner tells OK! she keeps her pre-awards show routine surprisingly low-key.

Instead of spending hours primping and preening, she took her 2-year-old daughter, Ava, to Gymboree. “We had fun doing that,” she explains to OK!. The multi-platinum artist then hung out with her parents before heading to show rehearsals and getting ready.

McBride was nominated in the Top Female Vocalist category. When asked whether she had a speech prepared, she confessed to OK!, “No, no speech. I am a little nervous. I’m doing fine and then I think about it and my stomach does that somersault thing.” Of course, it was all moot as she ultimately lost out on the honor to Carrie Underwood.

Of course, it helps that McBride’s husband, sound engineer John McBride, keeps her calm. “He is just great. He is so fun and supportive. He is also my sound engineer and made sure the sound was just right, which gives me great peace of mind.”

Carrie Underwood Does It Again!

November 8th, 2007 / Author: OK! Staff

To any doubters who said Carrie Underwood’s Female Vocalist of the Year win at last year’s Country Music Awards was only based on her American Idol win — it’s time to eat your words, as the country cutie took home that trophy for the second consecutive year, confirming her status as a bona fide superstar.

“God has blessed me with so many wonderful things,” beamed Carrie, whose single “Before He Cheats” was also a victor at last night’s Nashville ceremony. “If you told me a few years ago I had been nominated with the people I’m nominated with, I would have called you absolutely insane.”

Before the ceremony, Carrie confessed to OK! that the first person she was going to call if she won an award wasn’t her new beau Chace Crawford, but someone even nearer and dearer to her heart. “My mom! I have my phone in my handbag here. Last year, as soon as I walked off stage, she was the first person I called.”

The night’s other big winners included Kenny Chesney, who earned his second Entertainer of the Year honor, Male Vocalist champ Brad Paisley and Sugarland, whose win in the Vocal Duo category ended Brooks & Dunn’s winning streak at six years.
