Baby Fever for Jewel?

October 10th, 2008

Before Jewel and her rodeo champion husband Ty Murray eloped in August to the Bahamas, they’d said they wouldn’t tie the knot unless they were planning on having children. But now friends of the singer/bestselling poet tell OK! that she’s quickly changed her mind.

"Jewel and Ty are desperately trying to have a baby right now," the source says. "She told her team to clear her schedule for 2009 because they are planning for a baby. She wants to also release a lullaby record next year because she has such baby fever."

This is a change in tune for Jewel, who previously shrugged off the idea of starting a family anytime soon.

"We don’t know if there’s a point – we’ve lapped our friends who’ve gotten married and divorced," Jewel said in the past. "We probably would if we had kids – we’re just not sure we want them yet. But we’ve had something really special already."

Jessica Simpson Abused by Ex?

August 6th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

The journey from reality TV pop star to country singer hasn’t been easy for Jessica Simpson, 28, and one new song on her upcoming album chronicles that pain.

"Remember That," a song about a past emotionally abusive relationship, seems to have come out of nowhere, but a source claims that Jess is singing about ex-husband Nick Lachey.

"Towards the end of the marriage, things got really ugly," a friend of the couple confirms.

When she’s not singing, however, Jessica’s lips are zipped. "I don’t want to talk about it," she tells the September issue of Elle magazine. "But I have definitely experienced abuse in a way that I would tell people to take their heart and run."

As for some industry insiders, they’re taking their ears and running already. "This isn’t even relevant. Nick and Jessica broke up three years ago. No one cares that much about either of them anymore," a source tells OK!.

Shania Twain & Hubby Split

May 15th, 2008

Robert “Mutt” Lange is no longer still the one for Shania Twain.

The country/pop superstar and her music producer husband are splitting after 14 years of marriage, her rep confirms to OK!.

“Shania Twain and her husband, music producer Robert “Mutt” Lange, are separating after 14 years of marriage,” Jason Owen tells OK!. “This is a private matter and there will be no further comment at this time.”

The 42-year-old singer met Mutt, 59, when he was recruited to work on her album in the early 1990s. They married on Dec. 28, 1993 and have a 6-year-old son, Eja D’Angelo.

At the beginning of their relationship, the couple weathered much flack and criticism because of their 17-year age difference, while others felt Shania was using the red-hot producer to further her career. In response to their detractors, the two wrote “You’re Still the One,” which became Shania’s biggest hit to date.

Jewel Goes Country

November 9th, 2007 / Author: OK! Staff

With a cowboy for a father and rodeo hunk Ty Murray for a boyfriend , it would only make sense for folksy singer Jewel to try her hand at country music one day. Now the star is set to release her first album in that classic genre, My Country, in March and tells OK! this dream has been a long time coming.

“I’ve been trying to make a country record my whole career, but my label would never work well with country radio so I finally got off from them and made my record,” the singer/actress/best-selling poet reveals to OK!. “My first single comes out February or March. I think it will be a song called ‘I Do.’”

Temporarily ditching the acoustic pop music that has brought her fame and success for a multi-album deal with country label the Valory Music Company, the 33-year-old is one of the latest pop singers to go back to her country roots. As OK! has reported, Jessica Simpson is also going that route, and Jewel thinks it’s “great” mainstream and country are intermixing.

“I don’t know why everybody does it, but I think it is great though,” she says. “I think it stands for the American singer, songwriter and storyteller and it is a really noble tradition.”

OK! Interview: Reba McEntire

November 1st, 2007

Reba McEntire is one of the most successful female musicians of all time, but for the 52-year-old, professional success doesn’t compare to her personal triumphs. Married to Narvel Blackstock, Reba has a son Shelby, 17, and tells OK! at Billboard’s Top 20 Women in Music Breakfast last month that family is the most important thing in life.

What has been your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge in my life is getting all these kids raised. I’ve helped with nieces, stepchildren and my own son, so the biggest challenge is making sure the kids are raised and finding enough quality time with them.

How about your proudest moment?
Having Shelby. He’s a good kid. I just love motherhood.

How do you balance your personal life and your career?
I have the attention span of a 2-year-old. I like to jump from project-to-project. Narvel made sure we took the time to schedule properly. We work as a great team not only as artist and manager but as husband and wife and best friend. We can argue, and we can communicate, and put business aside and take off and have a great vacation and fight when we come back. It’s important to spend a lot of time as family. We work hard on our projects. He knows we’ve got to keep it diversified for me. I give 110 percent on each project but don’t spend too long on one thing because I’ve got to jump over here because I’ve also got a clothing line, bath line, shoe line to go along with the other things.

How do you do it?
We work hard and play hard.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
Do not sweat the small stuff over the course of your life. Narvel and I have been talking, and we’ve seen artists get so upset and so uptight to the point that they’re sick. Like, “Oh I’m losing my voice, I don’t know if I’m going to be able to go on at the time.” They’re there to sing, but more importantly, people want to see you sing. They can go home and listen to your records. If you don’t hit that high note, no big deal. Seventy-five percent won’t know that in the first place. Just go out there and let them know you’re having a great time and you’re glad to be there. It works; it really does.

Any advice on family?
I don’t think quantity time is as special as quality time with your family. If I had to say a thing I regretted in my life, it’s not spending enough time with my family. Then I look back and I think that the quality times were so special. I’m a big fan of that. I cherish the times we’re all together. My son Shelby’s like, “Did you take pictures of anybody but me?” Ever since I was six months pregnant up to now. It’s those special times you spend with your family. Make time for family.

What’s the biggest challenge for women in the workplace?
Being a woman, we are in a man’s world. We do double-time work. When I got into the music business in 1976, there weren’t many women on the roster. As a woman, you don’t complain, you work twice as hard and you do your job. You try to outsmart them, you try to outwork them and get there first. You help out, you volunteer, you’re at the front of the line. That’s what I learned from working on the cattle range, and it helped me in the music business. Women are the backbone of family, of our country, and they have been forever. I’m very proud to be a working woman.
