If a person’s wealth is measured by his friends, as I hear Vicki Escarra, the CEO of Feeding America, said Friday night when introducing Feeding America’s new Entertainment Council Chairman David Arquette during a small Feeding America awareness soiree at David’s agents house, then in both quantity and quality David Arquette’s fortune would be enough to help fill food banks for years – and actually probably will.
I would have loved to be a fly on the wall at David’s agent Eric Kranzler’s house last night when David’s idea to have an little awareness-raising happy hour cocktail party drew not just obvious suspects like his wife Courtney Cox and extended family Jennifer Aniston, but also a guest list including Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey and Jen Maguire, Amanda Peet, Nick Lachey, Sheryl Crow and Josh Groban.
Spywitnesses tell me the party was two hours, the star-studded guests talked more about philanthropy than awards shows, nibbled on pigs in a blanket, quesadillas and artichoke poppers and were the first to see the first poster artist Shepard Fairey (who created the now iconic Obama ‘HOPE’ poster) designed for Feeding America. Before the unveiling I’m told Fairey said something to the affect that unlike all of the other ‘artists’ in the room, “I’m a real artist, like the kind that starves.”
If Fairey’s latest masterpiece, which is actually an image of his own daughter, has even a fraction of the impact as his Obama poster (which was recently acquired by the Smithsonian), Feeding America should go a long way towards making sure more of America gets fed every day.

Last night I was slated to attend NYLON Magazine’s party at Foxtail to celebrate their American Issue –for which they chose Paris Hilton as the cover girl. Quite a sad state of affairs if Paris Hilton is meant to epitomize ‘the All-American girl,’ but for better or worse I suppose she’s so all-American she was volleyed by the presidential candidates more than any American other than maybe Joe the Plumber. Her surprisingly longtime beau Benji Madden was by her side to celebrate as was sister Nicky Hilton with her boyfriend David Katzenberg and Emile Hirsch. The stars kept energized sipping the caffeine and guarana-infused P.I.N.K Vodka cocktails and danced all night to tunes spun by DJ AM. I missed it.
I also had marked on the calendar to make at least an appearance at Ubisoft’s Shaun White Snowboarding Video Game launch to hang with my friend Corinne Kaplan – who’s kicking butt and taking names on the current season of Survivor! And I meant to congratulate Lacey Schwimmer who last night found out she and her partner Lance Bass made it to the semi-finals on Dancing With The Stars’s before she came to the party, but alas…
After my Tuesday night massage I whipped up a little stir fry (the first real dish I’ve taught myself how to cook since moving to LA and having a kitchen) and called it a night.
That leaves me refreshed for tonight when I’m going to an event David Arquette and Courtney Cox are hosting at STK LA for their inaugural Feeding America Entertainment Council campaign “Fill A Bowl, Feed America” and then by Vogue’s store opening party for Alberta Ferretti, hosted by Ellen Pompeo and Lucy Lui. Yippee. Report back tomorrow
For some reason this didn’t post the other day, but…
Tuesday night I went to my first L.A. movie premiere. The film was called Nosebleed, written and directed by first-time movie maker Jeff Vespa. David Arquette was the star, and only character in the dialogue-less film. His wife Courtney Cox came to support her husband’s solo performance dressed down (to put it nicely) in black slacks with a black button, not tucked in, and her hair in a loose ponytail. She looked like she could have been in mourning (although still beautiful). The whole film was about David’s character’s nose bleeding, everywhere — from onto his steak, to pillows and even the walls! Vespa told me it was a metaphor for the character’s lonely depression. It was only nine minutes long. I guess ones nose only has so much blood to bleed.
Friday night I had dinner at STK LA — and sat across from Victoria and David Beckham on a double date with Kate Beckinsale and Len Wiseman! I’d love to know how long it takes always prim, proper and polished Posh to get ready each day. I was planning to go to Les Deux afterward but couldn’t pry myself away from America’s favorite imported couple long enough to get there in time.
I missed seeing Nick Lachey — who, like his ex Jess ,was also out with a football player that night, his BFF Matt Leinart. Where was Vanessa? I guess a guy’s entitled to a boys’ night out.
MONDAY:I stayed home recovering from late flight back from LA. A few blocks from my house Scrubs star Zach Braff , Mario Lopez and a group of guys were drinking blood orange margaritas and eating oysters at Social Stantons Monday Social party.
TUESDAY: PR powerhouses Ken Sunshine and Shawn Sachs hosted their annual holiday party – aka the industry’s biggest annual schmoozefest. This year Sunshine, Sachs and Assoc. client John Mayer dropped by the soiree, the veritable who’s who of publicists and editors, as well as Ricki Lake – not a client, and not so sure why she was there actually. Although I witnessed John and Ricki standing a few feet from each other, I must admit I was as surprised as anyone to read in Page Six the next day that they exchanged numbers and text together all night after Ricki left for The Gramercy Park Hotel. I left before Ricki, or John, and also went to the Gramercy Park Hotel where Dolce and Gabbana were hosting a dinner to celebrate their new NYC boutique and Matthew McConauhey as the face of their new “One for Men” frangrance. The designers told me Matthew is perfect for the man for the campaign because, “He exudes sexiness, charm and allure that makes him the obvious choice.”
WEDNESDAY: Sarah and I went to a George Michael/Aretha Franklin concert/UNICEF benefit at Wall Street Cipriani so exclusive hardly a photo can be found – except those we took ourselves (the one with Sarah, Richie Sambora and I posted in a previous blog and the photo on the right of Matchbox 20’s Rob Thomas, his wife Marisol, James Patrick Herman and I). George Michael nearly brought Sarah and I to tears when he performed "Jesus to a Child" before brining us back up with “Faith” and I was happy to run into Richard Branson for the second time in 24 hours.
THURSDAY: I went to a benefit for the Lunchbox Fund and Food Bank for NYC. I attend the gala for this charity annually because it’s a cause I particularly care about - and they always do fun events that attract a bevy of A-listers. This event was a preview of lunchboxes that went up for auction at www.thelunchboxauction.org Dec. 7 and will remain up for auction online until Dec. 7. It was really amazing to see how creative stars could be with a lunchbox! Courtney Cox and David Arquette’s were as different as the two of them, Maggie Gyllenhaal told me turning hers into a music box was a family decision and Cameron’s Diaz’s was cute. Host Michael Stipe auctioned his lunchbox live and it went for $35,000! Don’t worry, the starting bid for the rest is $100. Check them out!
FRIDAY: Going for happy hour and then going home. It’s Tivo Friday.
SATURDAY: Stay tuned tomorrow when my colleague Laura Schreffler will guest blog for the Carribean!
While baseball parks Coors Field in Denver and Fenway Park in Boston are prepping to host bleacher full of fans for the World Series, Qualcomm Stadium, home of the San Diego Padres, is housing 10,000 evacuees. The Chargers, who also play at Qualcomm have moved their scheduled home game to Arizona!
It’s being reported that more than 500,000 people have been evacuated from homes in San Diego and Malibu where the California wildfires continue to burn out of control. A devastating natural disaster that even celebrities fame and fortune can’t protect them from, Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott’s B&B was evacuated and stars such as Tom Hanks, Mel Gibson, Kelsey Grammar, Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox and David Arquette are listed among evacuees. Even more unlucky, Sean Penn’s Malibu ranch was reportedly a casualty of the fire. The “Into the Wild” director also lost a home in the 2003 Malibu fire.
Thoughts and prayers are with them.
Alabama is known as the Heart of the Dixie. Somewhere along the way it became the heart of American Idol as it’s the home state to three of them. Bo Bice, Ruben Studdard and Taylor Hicks all hail from Alabama.
Ruben Studdard loves his home state so much he wore his area code, 205, on his shirt during much of the competition. Now, he has plans of opening a nightclub in Birmingham. He said of the state: "I’m from Alabama. It’s hard for us to get real Hollywood. If you are who you say you are and you’re real, it should be hard to change your personality overnight."
But don’t think it’s only the home to American Idols, other stars that were born in Alabama include: Charlie’s Angel Kate Jackson, Buffy’s Amber Benson, Friend Courteney Cox and Baywatch lifeguard Donna D’Errico.
